I feel like that guy knew this girl personally and really wanted to knock her block off lol

[–]Miriandandes 905 points906 points907 points 10 years ago (38 children) | Copy Link

Back when I was in Arizona for MOS training, there was this one haughty cunt who was always at the gym on her off hours and always talked shit when it came to physical stuff. For the first few months, things were pretty "normal", with people just ignoring her, or sucking up to her. You know, the normal "Oh man a girl is on the field we'll go easy" But after about half a year, and her going through about 10 guys, the unit as a whole got tired of her shit and stopped giving her breaks. It took about a week of her getting her shit stomped in literally every activity for her to humble up and shut up.

My personal contribution was wrecking her in Guitar Hero.

I finally just beat that song on Expert yesterday. It's pretty tough.

[–]Black_ValoR 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I hadn't played in a couple years and found a GH machine at a barcade. Bartender saw me playing on Expert and challenged me 1v1 for beer. I chose Cliffs of Dover as it's my most enjoyable song to play on GH3. Just so happened to also be his favorite song. Fucker beat me by 2k points, which I still blame on the fact I wasn't paying attention as the song started and missed the first couple notes that were pretty long.

[–]Pemoniz 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Bitches always ran their mouths in pugil sticks and obstacle courses and shit, and always got dumpstered when it came time to show up or shut up. I guarantee you she wanted this shit because at some point, the other guy hurt her feelings, and guess what, she lost. Shocker, right?

[–]Boosted801 195 points196 points197 points 10 years ago* (26 children) | Copy Link

We had some female LT's in BOLC come through (I was an instructor) who always talked shit and thought they could knock a man out. Many have tried, none have succeeded. Majority of the women would get knocked down once and then sit out, that was even when it was them versus another female. When one felt brave enough to fight a man every single one would tell the guys to not hold back....it always ended in tears, that was us from laughing so hard because the girl would be flat on her back after the first 3 seconds.

[–]AbsoluteAltitude69 points 10 years ago [recovered] (25 children) | Copy Link

I miss those days, and don't miss those days at the same time.

[–]Boosted801 63 points64 points65 points 10 years ago (24 children) | Copy Link

haha right? I always think I miss the military until i really sit down and outweigh the positives with negatives.

[–]MustakaThinks breakfast food is gay sex 63 points64 points65 points 10 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

You miss the people.

[–]Boosted801 28 points29 points30 points 10 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

to an extent yes. I loved meeting all the new people whenever I PCS'd but I made E4 in under 18 months at my first duty station so I always had soldiers under me at every station I had after that. I liked most of my soldiers but the bad ones really ruined it for me. My unit at Ft. Carson had a shitty chain of command (like most others, i know) but whenever a soldier wouldn't listen to me no one in my chain of command short of our Platoon Sergeant would ever back me up so I lost a lot of respect from the PVT's who were fresh out of AIT.

[–]MustakaThinks breakfast food is gay sex 11 points12 points13 points 10 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

A lot of those words I do not know what they mean. I am ex UK AAC.

[–]eggyweggys 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Permanent change of station, Enlisted rank 4. privates, Advanced Individual Training. I think that's everything?

[–]Boosted801 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Ha, thanks man. But yeah, the military is home of the acronyms...everything is a damn acronym.

[–]Mustaka1 point 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Lol. I served along side you spanks in Iraq. All the gear and no idea.

[–]Boosted8011 point 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

All the Brits I dealt with just sat in Kuwait and never left the FOB. I never dealt with any that actually did anything so I can't say I've seen any that impressed me. Also, now you see our military, we have all the money in the world to train our troops but majority who joined in the last 10 years (so most E5 and under) all joined because of the shit economy or for legal reasons.

[–]Mustaka3 points 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

we have all the money in the world to train our troops but

All the gear and no idea.

[–]Boosted8011 point 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

WELL I COULDN'T JOIN THE CANADIANS DAMMIT!!! hahaha.

[–]Mustaka1 point 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I dont know. Canadians have proved themselves quite handy in hockey and war.

[–]Mustaka1 point 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I blame Canada

[–]Boosted8011 point 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I made some great friends in the Canadian Army, they came down to where I was stationed for some sort of training so I'd see them out at night at one of the local bars. They were there for 6 months and I met them when they first go there so by the time they left they were all like family.

[–]Mustaka1 point 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Never trust a Canadian with a jug of maple syrup in his left hand, a pan of tasty looking cakes in his right. Its a fucking trap. Only way to defend is bags of smoke and up the middle.

[–]pweir0 points 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Except those are all initialisms or abbreviations.

[–]Boosted8010 points 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

no, where do you see any abbreviations? Every letter stands for something, most of those letters form words when put together and that's an....acronym!

"An acronym is a word or name formed as an abbreviation from the initial components in a phrase or a word, usually individual letters (as in NATO or laser) and sometimes syllables".

Ya know, ASVAB, AIT, OSUT, BOLC, BCT, etc etc etc....all acronyms, smh.

[–]pweir1 point 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

ASVAB is an acronym (because it's letters that each stand for something that you say as a word). Pvt. is an abbreviation (because it's a shortened word). AIT is an initialism (because you say the letters- A-I-T, not "ate" or "8"). You clearly didn't read the definition you quoted. Don't downvote someone else because you're an idiot.

[–]Boosted8011 point 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I didn't down vote you, sweetheart. So you picked ONE word from my list? Lol and I never said PVT was an acronym, actually PVT was never said. If the only thing you can talk shit about is acronyms and abbreviations then you really need to get off reddit because you're just looking for an argument haha

[–]cynoclast 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Am I wrong in speculating that it's about the camaraderie of being with a big group of people about your own age/life experience and going through the same shit together more than it being particularly military?

I ask because I've never been in the military but have similar nostalgia for college etc.

[–]Boosted801 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

no, age range is huge in the military so i had friends that were 18 and friends that were in their 50's. When you're in the most stressful job in the world it's hard to not call those immediately around you "family" anyway, they were no longer friends. But anyone outside of that group was hard to get along with. When I was in the military it just made me hate most soldiers because the military doesn't exactly attract the best of people.

[–]dck42069dck 30 points31 points32 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Ehh, I'm pretty sure the tough girls always knock the big guy down, leaving him unconsious or bewildered, sometimes both. Then they turn around and high five their friend as they walk away and the crowd laughs and cheers.

The white knights jumping in and throwing him off her implies the mentality.

[–]PM_ME_YOUR_SENATORS 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

To prevent injury. It would have happened if she was the one knocking him down as well.

[–]instaweed 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That happens with male vs male too. So white knight right?

[–]GrizzlyLeatherBut I dindu nuffin!!! 1374 points1375 points1376 points 10 years ago* (166 children) | Copy Link

Looks like some over reacting white knights there at the end.

E: Also I know these are pugil sticks, and the red end simulates the bayonet. He had to go back and make a kill shot which is what he did after he knocked her over. He was doing what he was supposed to for the drill.

[–]CactusInaHat 371 points372 points373 points 10 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

Eh, more like, "get him off her immediately so we don't get in trouble."

[–]NeroCloud 95 points96 points97 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

In the full video, the one that is "officiating" and pulls him off is seen kinda laughing.. It wasn't white knighting. They were making sure he doesn't hill her

[–]fuck_ur_mum 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not with their lax PFT requirements...

[–]RichardBachman 524 points525 points526 points 10 years ago (117 children) | Copy Link

Kinda. That's really not how you're supposed to train with the pugil sticks. It's essentially bayonet training, for when you run out of ammo and all you can do is stab and hit with the ends of your rifle. That's why there's big wads of padding on either end. You're not supposed to start 20 feet apart, either. Basically, this dude just hard-charged and used his body weight to knock her down, which is not the point of the exercise.

[–]TenaciousTriscuit 317 points318 points319 points 10 years ago (79 children) | Copy Link

But say that was a rifle...that's a pretty effective take down... Just saying, that's how I'm charging into combat fuck the gentle hitting they expect, does not simulate actual combat seemingly

[–]RichardBachman 229 points230 points231 points 10 years ago (57 children) | Copy Link

Most definitely. If someone is trying to kill me, I'm going full maniac on them. That said, this particular training is to learn to use your empty rifle as a weapon, not how to power slam the enemy.

This is sort of like running downrange with your rifle and shooting a target point-blank when you're supposed to be sighting in from 100 yards.

[–]FuncuzCapt-Save-A-Ho 91 points92 points93 points 10 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

But you're saving ammunition ! Fuck it...reduce noise too. Just throw the bullets.

[–]BRUTALLEEHONEST 26 points27 points28 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Quote from the link in the link:

They came up to a building they were ordered to clear, and inside 3-5 bad guys lay waiting for the stack to come through the door. As the Rangers entered the room they managed to kill all but one of the fighters. In the smoke and chaos of battle one of the rangers realized a bad guy was still alive and was attempting to pull the pin on a grenade.

Only being a few feet away the ranger rushed him and engaged into hand to hand combat. As they wrestle on the ground the ranger is unable to pull his knife because his kit kept getting in the way. The only thing he had at the ready was a MRE spoon he had stashed in the MOLLE of his kit. He grabbed the spoon and prison shanked that son of a bitch in the neck until he was dead.

Not true. At all. We train bayonet techniques with a stick called a mokaju (sp?). Pugil sticks are inline with body boxing. We do both to train aggression and violence of action. The whole point is to take the other motherfucker's head off. They used tomgive phonecalls home at PI if you managed to get the other rectuit's helmet off and you got to keep the helmet. Pugil sticks is all about aggression and overpowering your opponent.

That said, this particular training is to learn to use your empty rifle as a weapon, not how to power slam the enemy.

Cracking your opponent in the face with the breech of your rifle looks like an effective use to me.

[–]RichardBachman 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

And it's acceptable, but that's not what he did. The breech just happened to be between him and her. He knocked her over with his body.

[–]Jesus_marley 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

that was a full on high stick to the face. You can easily see him thrust forward with the "rifle" in an upward motion that would have landed square in the middle of the face had she not been wearing a helmet. His body momentum certainly helped knock her flat, no doubt, but frankly, if you are reduced to beating your opponent to death with a rifle, do what needs doing.

[–]atriax 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

And if you run like a retard like this from 20 meters away you're going to get impale yourself on whatever the hell the enemy is going to stick out at you. The whole purpose of pugil sticks is to put two people in range where they can actually fucking reach other with their hands. Not to play red rover.

[–]Jesus_marley 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

maybe. Or you'll crack them in the face with the breech of your rifle. Don't discount the human panic response to freeze up when attacked.

Except if you're going to charge like that, and the other person has a bayonet, why wouldn't they just hold it out and impale you? You're literally running into a knife, the other wouldn't even have to do anything.

That wouldn't work in this drill, but would be easy as fuck in real life.

[–]Boosted801 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

we learned pugils not for bayonet training but in case you ever had to use your rifle as a whole as a weapon. We never even learned how to jab with it as if it were a bayonet because i think that just comes naturally, we learned how to rifle butt.

[–]drnickmd 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Curious, if they aren't suppose to start that far away why did they allow it then?

[–]RichardBachman 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Either they weren't doing the training properly or it was some sort of no-holds-barred grudge match. He clearly had the higher center of gravity and any pee-wee league football coach, or possibly even a USMC DI, worth their salt would know that was a horrible match up for a running start.

[–]captshady 83 points84 points85 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

You're not supposed to start 20 feet apart, either Yep, because when you run out of ammo, you're supposed to be closer than 20ft from your enemy.

On the Island in '87, we trained closer, but we also went at each other from a distance.

Basically, this dude just hard-charged and used his body weight to knock her down, which is not the point of the exercise.

How dare he train in a way that would allow for victory against his enemy. "Oh, I'm sorry Mr. ISIS soldier, how unfair of me to use my body weight to knock you down. That was not the point of this attack."

[–]rarely_coherent 17 points18 points19 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]Jealousy123 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How dare he train in a way that would allow for victory against his enemy.

It doesn't matter which way is the most effective way. You're supposed to be training for a specific situation.

That's like going to Basketball practice, having your coach instruct you to practice 3 pointers, and then you run up in the post and start popping shots 2 feet from the hoop because you'll shoot better from there. You'll perform better but you aren't practicing the skills you need.

Not all close-combat encounters are gonna begin with a 20ft charge, in fact very few of them will. Soldiers need to know how to fight in close quarters so they practice it.

[–]AbsoluteAltitude50 points 10 years ago [recovered] (14 children) | Copy Link

I guarantee you this chick is the instigator of this match, it always was whenever some dumb broad thought she could compete on the same level of whatever drill was going on. That said, she probably ran her mouth, and got shit on, and then helped along with people saying shit like you, and acting the way the others did.

It's the Marines, we never went easy on anyone who ran their mouths about anything, if you couldn't keep up, this is an example of what happened. Not that "it's the point of pugil sticks," that's never what goes on, it turns into hitting practice like a football team, whoever gets the biggest hit, wins.

War is not exercise, anything goes. Most the time youre not going to be 3 feet away from enemy when you run out of ammo. Sometimes you need to close distances of 15-20 ft etc.

[–]Kickinback32 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

You're clearing a compound as you enter the courtyard combatant exits a hut square in front of you. His rifle is slung over his back. You raise yours as he starts to grab for his. Click no bang, your weapon just misfired and no where to take immediate cover. He's still attempting to ready his weapon. A charge at him is potentially your best bet.

In fact studies have show inside of 21-23' an attacker can close the distance and stab hit attack you before you can get a holstered weapon out and shoot. This obviously applies to most of the population. There is definitely going to be those that can. The point is there can be a valid situation in which charging your enemy with overwhelming aggression is the best course of action.

He wasn't there to win the exercise, that's a move you pull when you purposely want to hurt someone. I can see why everyone jumped on him to end it.

Doesn't really fit to PPD at all to be honest either at least with what we're shown. It's not a woman being shut down for using gender as a handicap and more of a dude just throwing a greaseball hit.

[–]83xlxinsocal 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That might not be the exact purpose of the exercise, but from a defensive standpoint, if she were to find herself in a real combat situation and was out of ammo, this is exactly what would happen to her. Rather than whiteknighting and making excuses, they should get her ass up and better prepare her for a hard shoulder charge. In a combat situation, the enemy isn't going to follow standard bayonet procedure.

[–]bohmapik1 point 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I would imagine the point of the exercise is to use whatever you have to your advantage, as you have run out of ammo. She has size and agility, he has size and weight.

Although, I do see how in just this GIF it seems very white knighty.

I have an internet Phd in White Knight Studies, from the amount of street fight videos I've watched, and I can say with confidence that what we're seeing in this video is a Level 3 White Knight response.

As soon as a threat against the female is witnessed, the white knights spring aggressively to her defense, they go from 0 to 60 instantly, there's a different, more panicked element to their movements than you normally see when people are stopping a fight between men.

They didn't attack him, so it's not a Level 2 response, and from what I've seen they didn't try and date her afterwards so it's not a Level 1 response.

[–]SunburntTurtle 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm still an understudy in white knighting so I appreciate the insight. It will really help with my classes having a better understanding of the white knight levels and their meaning.

I've seen multiple broken bones/sprains from pugil stick training, there's actually a much higher risk of injury than you might imagine. It comes with the territory when you're dealing with Marines. The instructors' standard procedure is to immediately pull the two apart when there's a clear victor and the winner keeps going. The fighters are trained to keep going, and the instructors are trained to pull the fighters apart. I see the instructors do this sort of thing all the time during male vs male and female vs female sparring, this is par for the course. Hell, usually they just grab them by the back of their flak jacket and throw them in the opposite direction.

That wasn't white knighting, those were his instructors protecting her. There are rules to that, and once she was down they had to stop it. The same would have happened between two males. They would be reprimanded if they didn't officiate

She was on the ground and he was going in for more hits. I don't know anything about what this exercise is, but that looks excessive, like A boxer beating his opponent further after a tap-out. Male or female, that looked like a reasonable reactions.

He came at her the way you come at someone who intends to kill you. That's one of the core tenets of melee fighting. He may have gone a bit overboard, as it was for sport not a real life or death thing, but that's the fight. She could have ducked low, shifted to the side, and piled her stick into his ribs or side, but her reaction was poor and she got ran over. He's bigger and stronger than you are, lady. You aren't going to beat him head on. Learn to be faster and more agile or he'll wreck you every time.

This video is like an advertisement for not letting women in the military. That was the most pathetic attempt at aggression ever.

[–]NC-Home 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

This isn't a Tekken game. Girls are not faster or more agile by default. "One reason lies in the tremendous increase in muscle mass. Another lies in the dramatic cardiovascular changes. At puberty, boys hearts increase in weight by more than one-third. In particular notice ...that, compared to females, after puberty, males have many more red blood cells and a much greater capacity for carrying oxygen in their blood. The visible signs... The real-world consequence is that after puberty males get a boost in gross motor skills that give them an edge in everything from soccer to sprinting; from cycling to carrying heavy loaders." *Experiencing the life span pp237. Of course this doesn't demote females at all and this girl didn't have any learned abilities that may overcome this. The point remains though that as a whole females are less fit for physical combat; even when it comes to speed. In modern combat it is possible this has been overcome and they can excel in roles such a drones strikes or battle formations. Regarding physical combat though they are both slower and weaker as an average. This also carries into combat effects such as needing to carry wounded allies to safety.

Exactly. There's so many scenarios that could go either way. All we know is that this isn't how you're supposed to train with pugil sticks and that that part may have been intentional.

Copy-pasting for people who don't think its PPD:

When recruiting: "So what if she's a girl, she's tough and we need tough"

When doing a drill: "Hey man, she's just a girl!"

if "don't hit a lady" is a pass, that pass was clearly denied. The marines have lowered the physical requirements for women to allow them to join the marines. This woman, statistically speaking, more likely than not is one who was let in based on those lowered requirements.

Get your white knighting the fuck outta here.

Probably has more to do with the size of the subs. As this sub grows, it'll increasingly be filled with women hating mouth-breathers and if the moderation is lacking someone will have to make a /r/truepussypassdenied sub. Truth is, most people are just shitty across all demographics.

I agree it doesn't fit the standard format. If we heard her mouthing off before the battle it might be different. But you have to admit that there is a huge argument saying that women are just as capably, if not more, according to some, as men on the battlefield. This one example 'denies' that claim in a big way. And from what I gather it isn't a mandatory thing that the women face off against the men in this event but that it's voluntary. Well shit... I guess that disputes my first opinion. She THOUGHT she was going to win, not that she was going to be treated with special condition. Much like female-military advocates truly believe the are just as capable, not lesser. So, yeah, I agree with you. I think this post's traction is mostly about male 'superiority', and I'm guilty of that. I feel ashamed of that but (fuck this is turning into a stream of thoughts) at the same time, women are applauded for viewing their gender as more capable. Meanwhile I feel guilty and sexist for thinking men are, given a fuck ton of evidence. Even writing that makes me look/feel like a pig. This isn't right, all this talk about differences only raises attention to the issue that shouldn't exist. People are people; judge them accordingly by their actions. PERIOD.

[–]ThatFag 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Firstly, there's no evidence for that like the other guy said. And secondly, what if she did request it? So what? She didn't expect special treatment based on her gender. She thought she was skilled enough to take him down. She was wrong, sure. But she didn't expect to be treated different because of her vagina. Not as far as the gif tells me.

Nothing is being denied here.

[–]Aarondhp24-5 points 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Nothing is being denied here. I guess I didn't explain very well so let me try to clarify. Her getting in the ring with a male marine that easily has 50 lbs on her, was the pussypass. I have a hard time believing she was stupid enough to think she might win.

Whether or not she said this out loud, she got in that ring (I guarantee she had to request it) and got her ass handed to her. That was the denial. A wake up call, if you will. No little marine girl, you are not as tough as you thought you were.

[–]ThatFag4 points 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

She lost so she got denied? Someone had to lose. It was the girl. She was not strong enough so that was bad judgement on her part. But where do you see her expecting to get off easy based on her gender? Demonstrate to me how you think she had this expectation and I'll agree with you.

So, basically, you're prejudiced against women in the military based on your experiences, so you've MADE UP some justification as to why this was a PPD.

[–]Aarondhp24 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, he's telling you what pretty much any male grunt will tell you: women have it easy in the military. Special exemptions, special housing, favorable treatment.

The shit some of the females in neighboring units got away with surprised me on an almost daily basis. Talking shit to NCO's? Skipping formations and getting multiple written counselings? I missed one formation and got smoked for 6 hours.

This is how it is in the Army at least, and apparently the same goes on in the Marines. The standards are easier on the females to begin with, so please don't try to make this about peoples "prejudices". You're trying to deny reality in favor of political correctness. /r/military isn't really the place for that.

[–]TrippyToast0 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He isn't being sexist at all. Read what he said very careful and he is just saying that his his experience. I didn't see him say anywhere that every woman is like this. Some women will kick most men's asses it has nothing to do with that. It's his personal experiences.

[+]NickRick -8 points-7 points-6 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I'm sorry my years of experience don't measure up to some statistical data in an article written by some coke-bottle glass-eyed hipster at a third party civilian agency in your book.

so you right now are willing to claim that every single woman, who has ever gone into the marines thinks they are going to get it easy by joining the armed services? not to mention you have never met this person, but feel confident enough to tell us what she was thinking? that is like me saying "every single half dollar i've seen has been from 1969, so all half dollars are from 1969". despite me only seeing a few half dollars. what you have is anecdotal evidence, which means almost nothing, especially by its self.

Anecdotal evidence is evidence from anecdotes. Where only one or a few anecdotes are presented, there is a larger chance that they may be unreliable due to cherry-picked or otherwise non-representative samples of typical cases.

[–]M1s4n7hr0p3 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

I am 1,000% confident in my assertion and I can guarantee that every single infantry Marine will back me up on this, double for those who worked with FET. They talk shit then they whine when reality comes home. Every. Single. One. Dozens of IOC applicants. Only one made it past first day quals and she dropped within a couple weeks. 200 applicants to ITB actually did pass, but not a single lateral transfer packet was turned in. Why? Reality hits home and they realize they can't do what the men do. They don't want to be treated like us. They don't want the pressure and punishment we take daily. I understand the general distrust for anecdotal evidence, but given that my relative sanple size of like minds is thousands of other Marines with identical experiences it really ceases to be anecdotal, it just hasn't been run through statistical analysis by some eggheaded civilian who hasn't lived it.

Edit: Also, to clarify, I'm not limiting my statement to the USMC. This can be applied to women in all services and the vast overwhelming majority of women I've worked with as a civilian. There are some damned good female paramedics but most of them smile at the Driver or Captain and let the men do the hard shit when push comes to shove.

[–]Boosted801 11 points12 points13 points 10 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

you must have never met a female Marine then...I was stationed with them, they wanted equality until shit got tough and then they always wanted help, that was probably 80% of the women I've ever been stationed with.

So, your justification that this is a PPD is that you're prejudiced against women in the military.

Gotcha.

[–]Boosted801 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I'm prejudiced against women? Oh, because they can't hold the same level of physical training as a man and it's been proved time and time again. They proved in my unit to be the weakest link which caused morale to drop. Yes, women (in my opinion) shouldn't be in combat MOS' if they can't do what the men can do. You know, that's a pretty lame attitude for the subreddit's top moderator. You're justifying this PPD as "She must have done something at some point in the past."

Then again, I don't know what I would expect from someone who makes posts like:

Meh. It feels kinda like when your mom does not want me to pull out. I cream pie her ass then she cries about the waste of space which is you

(Yes, he really posted that in his own subreddit)

[–]FGE_alexthegreat 12 points13 points14 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

To be clear: PPD DOES NOT MEAN THAT A WOMAN NEEDS TO REFER VERBALLY TO HER GENDER. FEMINIST ACTS, A MAN DEFENDING HIMSELF, AND OTHER SITUATIONS WHERE WOMEN DO SOMETHING THAT IMPLIES THEY WILL SUFFER NO REPERCUSSIONS ARE FAIR GAME.

Any post that shows physical force against a woman that wasn’t instigated or excessive retaliation to instigation will be removed.

From the sidebar. /u/nowaygreg is correct, she didn't try to assert the pass, there's no sign of instigation in the gif, or her crying for help afterwards. Not PPD.

Women in combat units is such a fucking stupid idea. Say you're bleeding, unable to walk and need someone to drag your ass out of the line of fire...will gender equality matter then? It's not about equality, it's about common sense.

[–]tyrayhern 159 points160 points161 points 10 years ago (33 children) | Copy Link

It wouldn't the fact that she's a woman that would prevent her from being effective though, it'd be that she was too weak. A guy could be too weak also, but they train to prevent that. It's about equality in that if both genders are held to the same standard then it doesn't matter which sex you belong to.

[–]GodOfThunder44 27 points28 points29 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

and it bothered me the way the guys in this video aggresively pushed him off at the end like that.

Don't worry, that's how MCMAP instructors treat everyone in this kind of situation. Once there's a winner the instructor is supposed get the winner off of the loser real fucking quick, because the Marines are trained to go and keep going. I've seen worse than this in male vs male sparring.

That "killer instinct" is the reason why instructors are trained to be aggressive with breaking things up.

[+]fullhalf -8 points-7 points-6 points 10 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

it is about her being a woman. everything about how she evolved does not help her fight effectively. she's too scared, too indecisive, too passive and too weak. logically it would make no sense for her to fight in the front lines where she is less effective while trading her place with a man behind the lines where he may be less effective.

this argument is moot anyway since women don't really want to be in the front lines. it's all a feminist farce. if women aren't working on oil rigs and doing construction work, you think they're going to be frontline soldiers? lol.

[–]RafTheKillJoyeats ass 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

But if a female could pass the same standards that males do then what should stop them?

[–]MustakaThinks breakfast food is gay sex 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nothing. Women can if they want work to the same basic standards men are excpected to do. The thing is even for men the standard is fucking low. It is so low it is designed to not fuck off a single recruit.

[–]fullhalf 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

lol at all these great in the air what ifs. right now in the military, women have a much lower pt standard. the day that women are held to the same standards as a man, then we can ask that question. that day isn't going to happen though. if it did, it would already. it's the same shit with cops and firefighters. i'm sure there are women out there born with hormonal imbalances and end up with enough testosterone and a mustache to be physically equal to an average man. it just doesnt happen often.

[–]lonchaneyforbatman 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

there is no need to argue here. do women have a lower pt standard? yes. did the laws of physics suddenly change when a woman picks up 180lbs? no. do distances shrink when she tries to run? no. lol. there is no need to make any excuses. a woman cant even carry her own body weight as many times as a man. so how in the fuck is she going to ever compete physically with men? we're not even making them carry a man's weight, they're carrying a woman's weight and they can't even do as many push ups. how in the fuck are women supposed to be equal to men. in what fucking universe?

[–]tyrayhern 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Are you serious right now? I know female soldiers who are on the front lines just like any guy wouldnbe, and they want to be there for the same reasons. I know women who have been in the military for 20+ years that are more accurate with a weapon and have more drive than a lot of men I know. Just because someone's a woman doesn't mean that they're passive weak or indecisive any more than being a man means the opposite and it's pretty ignorant to think so. There are many strong women who lead and cooperate effectively and every healthy person is capable of meeting any fitness standards held by the military. There's also no reason that a man would be less effective at working behind the lines and there's no doubt that there are men doing non-frontline work that suits them better.

I feel like the things you're saying are remnant of when people didn't think blacks or gays could be effective in the military. It's ridiculous.

Look man, I agree with you that it's a bad idea to allow women into combat arms using the current physical fitness standards for women.

I've known a rare few women who could do the job, but they could do the job. Women who could squat 380lbs 7 times, who could bench 250lbs 10 times. She scored a 300+ on every APFT according to the MALE standards.

I have no doubt that if held to the same standards of men, SHE could do it. As long as women can meet and maintain that standard, let em do it. If they can not, do not let them in.

[–]Aarondhp24 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

[–]eatmyshit -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

[–]Aarondhp24 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

That is not a field shower.

[–]eatmyshit 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Sorry. My mistake. I meant to say shower trailors.

[–]Aarondhp24 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Well we were talking about additional expenses for letting women into combat arms, but seeing as you meant shower trailers I'll let you in on a little secret:

There are already two showers at every combat out post because there are already two sexes in combat zones.

I'm tired of people making up these drawn out excuses to prevent women from entering combat arms. Inter-unit jealousy is a reason I might buy, but I'll just tell people to suck it up and act like a god damned soldier. It's too easy. Set a standard. Anyone that meets it is in.

[–]eatmyshit0 points 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I wouldn't mind women in combat trades if the rules were equal. The women could use the shower everyday but the men could only use it once a week or something. The women in my armoured unit could not perform the same work as even the weakest man. They were a strain on our unit.

battles.

You answered the question yourself. You are army. Money isn't a thing. Marines don't have that luxury. And frankly, that's a good thing for everyone.

[–]Aarondhp24 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So something you've imagined based on zero actual experience. Cool.

[–]Kancer86 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sure, but I guess it's called "common sense" for a reason. I have no personal experience on how the USMC would fair against some child soldiers in Somalia, but I have an idea of how it would end up... But I guess that's just offensive for children, and there might be some strong children that could compare to the strength and precision of ours marines, so I shouldn't talk because I have no experience, right?

[–]slingerg 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The military spends a lot of money making sure there are separate facilities for the small percentage of women that are in. Imagine if they made one standard across the board. There'd be even fewer women, so you'd get less for your dollar by having an extra bathroom, for instance.

When I was in Iraq we had 4 porta-johns for our unit's CHUs. 1 said "women" and 3 said "men." There were 14 women in our unit and about 180 men. By the first week we said fuck that, they're all for everyone. The highest ranked woman in the unit, an E6, kept yelling at men for using the "women's" porta when the others were full. 1sg told her to can it.

[–]Kancer86 -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

Right...note that you've basically admitted you're talking about the exception, and not the rule. If there's a woman that can handle ALL of the physical stress of the battlefield, whatever. But even then, women have natural motherly instincts, higher empathy, higher levels of estrogen and oxytocin, etc... Its why French women were attracted to masculine Nazi soldiers and why Japanese women loved the American men, etc during WWII...they just see things differently, and it's got no place on the battlefield. It's a tough subject to approach.

[–]Aarondhp24 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

And? I'm not making some blanket statement that women should be blocked from entering combat arms because they have a vagina, am I?

Trying to keep things black and white is a lazy persons way of making a point. Everyone falls on a spectrum. Set a standard, not based on gender, and if someone can meet it, they can do the job.

[–]Kancer86 -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]sockmess 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They are using females almost like a biological / religion weapon. An all female squad might actually be beneficial in some conflicts. But an integrated combat squad will always face more negatives than positives.

[–]ferrara44 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's not the same situation.

[–]thoailong87-14 points 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

You're right. One group is fighting for actual survival whereas the other group is fighting someone else's war to "protect our freedom". When you look at it like that, it really is stupid.

[–]fightguild 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

About half of the time male vs male matches end in a similar way. This is no big deal.

[–]somenamestaken[S] 86 points87 points88 points 10 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

So, being a US Marine myself, let me dispel a bit of the bunk information floating around here.

This training is pugil sticks. It is to simulate hand-to-hand combat with your rifle. Sometimes they have you charge each other. Sometimes you start closer. How these two got paired is irrelevant.

You are taught plenty of techniques for this type of fighting but when it really comes down to it, it's really more brawn than brain. I was always trained to keep attacking until they pull you off. Be a fighter. Be ruthless. Be a fire pissing, hard charging, brain stomping, MARINE.

Now how is this a denied pussy pass? Well, this is what happens when you try to say that woman should be in the infantry, woman should be looked at exactly like men, woman should blah blah blah. When it really comes down to the fight, all that equality shit goes out the damn window and this is what you get. PUSSY PASS DENIED

[–]Pyroteknik 39 points40 points41 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Welcome to /r/pussypassdenied, where women are not allowed to use their gender as a handicap...

[–]MarxIzalias9 points 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

That should really be a slogan.

[–]Whisper 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Seconded. Pugil sticks are not about skill. They are not there to train any sort of skill. They are a huge blob of padding on the end of a fucking stick. There's no way to use that skillfully. They are for training sheer, naked, raw, screaming aggression.

Women who have never faced a man in a physical contest get seduced by all the left-wing rhetoric and girl-power movies into thinking that the male physical advantage isn't all that great, and they can bridge that gap with spunkiness, determination, and plot armor.

If they actually test this, they very quickly find that they don't actually have plot armor, and that men are not only vastly stronger, they are also more determined as well.

And that the only thing you can accomplish with girl power is to talk about girl power.

[–]CintasTheRoxtar 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

She goes into a fight one on one, she isn't using her gender as a tool to any means. I don't get how this is a pussy pass... It's just a girl getting bashed by a guy. Yeh he beat her, there's gotta be a loser any how. Pretty brave to go up against somebody bigger and stronger than yourself, isn't bravery a core trait in the marines?

[–]HippoPotato 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That bravery means zero out on the field when you get crushed by the first enemy you meet.

[–]Thermodynamicness 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That doesn't make this a pussy pass, though. Maybe women in the military is a bad idea, but nothing in this gif is a pussy pass.

[–]SaltyTree 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I totally agree with you, but I'm sure plenty of men have been bum rushed and destroyed like that. I think women should be able to be on the front lines, because there are some really big and fit women, but obviously that's not the norm. Allow any human who is fit enough and discard any human who isn't, bottom line.

[–]expert02 -5 points-4 points-3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Now how is this a denied pussy pass?

Alright, I'm ready for your explanation.

Well, this is what happens when you try to say that woman should be in the infantry, woman should be looked at exactly like men, woman should blah blah blah. When it really comes down to the fight, all that equality shit goes out the damn window and this is what you get.

I'm still waiting for your explanation as to why this is a PPD. Because so far all you've done is bitch about how women shouldn't be in the military.

It's funny, I would have figured a "US Marine" wouldn't be such a whiner. What were you, an administrative assistant?

[–]mbalookingInternet White Knight Ninja Warrior 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Also a marine, and was a martial arts instructor as well. Everything he said is accurate. I'm not sure we'll know if an actual PPD occurred or not because we don't know anything about the context. If this chick is just looking for good training, got rocked, dusted her ass up and asked for more, he'll no that's not a PPD. That's friggin outstanding.

If she was running her mouth all week and homeboy was catching shit left and right about being the guy tagged with squaring up with the "EO friendly training," I'd say that's some good PPD right there.

Quick story, I wrestled in high school. We had a dual meet (school v school vice multi school tourney), and my match was a blind kid. Well holy shit let me tell you how much this sucked.

For one, if you win, you beat someone you should have beat. If you lose, you better hope you're a senior because you're not going to live it down until graduation.

So to make it worse, they put this dark black mesh bag over this blind kid's entire head. Yes, like a fucking prepubescent blind Darth Vader.

Out of "fairness", we had to have at least 2 points of contact through the entire match, regardless of what was happening. If we broke 2 points of contact, the match was stopped ad we started from the "neutral" position again.

Lastly, the kid actually knew how to wrestle. Maybe he had some daredevil shit goin on or something and his other senses were sharpened for balance and pressure or something.

Either way, this equated to a week of intense anxiety for little sophomore mbalooking. I wrestled terribly because of how freaked out I was about having the stakes of my manhood being foisted upon me. I won the match, but it wasn't one of those heart-warming matches where the guy let's the down syndrome kid feel like a normal kid for a day and acts like the kid is beating him. My match was like eager anticipation by all spectators at the prospect that "this dude might get pinned by a blind kid!"

I couldn't think about anything else, much less wrestling.

[–]JForeIsBae 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Show some respect and common sense. That women went into the Marines and was held to a lower physical standard than the men. Women shouldn't be on the front lines until they can reach the same requirements men currently are.

[–]fullhalf 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]MidnightTide 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm sorry - you don't toss a chihuahua into a fight pit with german shepherds and expect it to be able to hold its own or be respected just cause "its a dog too and has equal rights"....sorry--physical stamina matters in warfare..and women are not built to physically take what guys can take...it isn't bias - it is physical facts.

Isn't this how it is supposed to be? If you're smaller than your opponent, there's a greater chance you will get put on your back. But, hopefully, with more training and practice, the smaller soldier will get better and be able to defend themselves better. I think it is irrelevant that it's a woman. Just a smaller soldier, in my opinion. Let's also consider that she did not stay down. She tried to go after him. As I understand it, that is the heart of a Marine. The training would be better if the others didn't jump in and save her. It should be noted that I am basing all of this on what I have been able to glean from "Full Metal Jacket" and "Heartbreak Ridge". Past that, not an expert. Also, I don't care if women serve or not. If they want to sign up to get shot at, fine by me. As long as I don't, as I have not perfected my bullet dodging moves yet.

[–]Samantha_Cruz 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I can't tell from this limited view of the situation but I admire her as well; i don't see that she attempted to back down; she needs to learn tactics to deal with her size disadvantage but she's in the ring and she took a tough hit and got back up and looked like she was still in the fight. [–]Samantha_Cruz5 points 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

she was hit very hard as part of combat training; she was wearing pads and she NEEDS to learn how to defend herself if she's ever going to become an effective combat soldier. There is VERY GOOD REASON for the training. It would be inexcusable for the military to go soft on her just because she's female or just because she's smaller.

[–]expert02-1 point 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Is there anything in this shitty little gif showing she attempted a pussypass? No. All this gif shows is a chick and a dude, and the dude plows over the chick. Then he goes to beat her while she is down, and the instructors stop him.

NO PPD HERE.

[–]Samantha_Cruz4 points 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

not suggesting it is an example of such; i have no idea why it was posted. I don't see anything wrong at all with what happened in the video; they are training and it SHOULD be tough; if he was soft on her he would NOT be doing her any favors.

I am only 4'11" tall; nearly everone that I might ever have a conflict with is going to be larger than I am. It is the reality. When I do self defense drills my size is an undeniable disadvantage and it cannot be ignored. I expect it to be used against me; The entire point of the training is to learn how to counter that disadvantage as much as possible because in an actual attack my enemy would not hold back; they would not "go easy on me" just because i'm smaller and it's retarded to train otherwise.

[–]Whisper2 points 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

She is asking for a pussy pass merely by standing there.

That's the part you haven't understood. Soldiers don't practice self-defense. They practice combat.

When you put on workout clothing, and practice what I assume is some sort of self-defense oriented, mostly unarmed martial art, you are saying I am ready to make my best effort to survive, should I be so unfortunate as to be attacked by a man.

But when she puts on a uniform, she is saying I am ready to fight men. Soldiers fight other soldiers.

[–]Samantha_Cruz0 points 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

unless we're counting jrotc (technically it was the national service training program in the phillipines but it's similar to JROTC in the US) i have never been in the military; my comment only referenced "self defense" with regards to MY training which is totally unrelated to the military; i am small and i've noticed that trainers almost always attempt to pair me up with people around the same size.. that is understandable to a point however i want to also train with larger people because almost any 'real' attack is going to involve larger opponents. - That applies here as well; she needs to train against realistic enemies; it is no service to her or the military to lower the standards or go softer on her just because she's female or just because she's smaller.

Nothing about the video suggests that she had such expectations; i have no idea what was in her head and i don't see any evidence that she was expecting a pass. she was NOT merely "standing there". her response was poorly executed and she got bowled over but anyone would make the same mistake when they are just starting; that's WHY we train; I was impressed that after she got knocked down she appeared to turn to continue the fight;

she was NOT merely "standing there". her response was poorly executed

You misunderstand. I meant she is asking for a pussy pass by standing in the ring with a man. In fact, she is asking for a pussy pass by putting on that uniform.

No apparent reason?? Do you think ISIS members will go easy on her, because she's a fucking woman? If you're going to join the armed forces, you're going to be treated just as harshly as any man beside you.

Man, break the circlejerk and you guys just blue screen, don't you?

Watch it again. And then again. And then again. And keep doing that until it gets through your thick skull. What the fuck were they doing, exactly? Was this "take a full body tackle" practice? Then why did she need a (whatever the fuck she's holding)? The dude clearly went overboard.

My lord, you are completely failing to understand what is happening here. They are training for war Every. Single. Person. Is. Treated. As. An. Equal. In. The. Marine. Core. Training. Equality is treating a women 100% the same as you would treat any other trainee around you, male or female. If that were a guy on the receiving end of the hit, no one would have a problem with what happened. It's not a fucking circle jerk, it's a goddamn training exercise for the physically elite men and women in our country. If someone is told to hit as hard as they can by an officer, you better bet they're going to hit as hard as they can. Maybe I should dumb this down and put it into terms you can understand... If a girl were playing on a high school football team and people complained that she got hit too hard during practice, don't you think that would be setting her up for failure once she was in an actual game against real opponents? Just like the football analogy, people she may encounter at war will give zero shits that she's a girl, and will hit and kick as hard as they possibly can if they ever fall into hand to hand combat. I'm so fucking sick of people like you spewing out bullshit like this.

According to many other people in this thread, the exact same thing would have happened. Victor pulled off loser.

So again, no PPD here. No PP attempt. Just a bunch of woman-haters jerking off to some chick being knocked down because this sub's creator is a sick bastard.

I agree that this 100% does not fall under the category of a PPD, but what I don't agree with is people's misunderstanding of what happens in combat training, regardless of gender.

"Just a bunch of woman-haters jerking off to some chick being knocked down because this sub's creator is a sick bastard."

You're high and mighty for someone who posts in /r/tittydrop where photos are permanently saved of times women were accidentally exposed.

Dude, she's in marine corps boot camp, that's part of the training. It's called pugil stick fighting, to simulate bayonets. She's not being beaten for being a woman, she's being beaten as a part of marine corps boot camp. Take off your shining white armor, hang it up, and save it for next time when you hopefully aren't incorrect like you are right now.

Talk shit, get hit.

[–]expert022 points 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

OP posted a GIF, no audio. No shit talking.

I don't need to hear a voice to relive this situation. I've seen it dozens of times. Enjoy your ignorance.

[–]expert023 points 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

You say I'm the ignorant one, but you're the one that's making all the assumptions here.

[–]InMySafeSpace1 point 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

That being said, minus the padding, she does not look prepared for any form of pugilism.

Well duh?
