If you have to brag about doing the bare minimum for your kid like it's a personality trait or to get a few internet medals and pats on the back, most likely you're a scrote and not the GoOd DaD you claim to be. Damn I see this all the time. Either men bragging about spending a half hour playing with their kid(s) and twice a week bathing them, or pickmes praising LV fathers for doing the bare minimum. This reminds me of how when my husband takes the kid to the grocery store or the park or whatever, he gets showered with praise and gifts from strangers. Like, someone literally bought him flowers for just... taking our child to the store. Me? Nothing. He is a great dad, don’t get me wrong, but I’m a great mom and nobody says shit to me lol

my father never woke up to feed me, take me to school, never cooked for me, never even asked me if I were hungry or sick. i have been hospitalized several times as I lived in my parents house, not once did he visit me.

and I am not talking to him. at all.

and even if he only did wake up and get me breakfast and then take me to and from school, and that would be it - I wouldn't talk to him either.

a robot can do that. a stranger too. that's maintenance work, like cleaning a freaking plate. does he spend 4 hours doing homework with the kid or asking the kid if he has difficulties or if he made friends?does he know the friends names? does he know the next appointment to the GP and the dentist? does he know how many milk teeth does the kid has left? does he know which playground the kid likes? does he know their favorite story? does he read them stories? does he hug his kid and plans trips and adventures?

Does he help him with his homework, does he talk to him about his day, does he spend time with him outside of picking him up, does he share experiences and lesson with him, does he take him on outings just the two of them weekly, does he pick up on sign when he is upset or emotionally unwell, does he listen, does he cook his meals, does he tuck him in a night, does he correct him when he wrong, is a presence in all his life not just after school and before it starts? This is what my mom did plus pick me up, go to work, and drop me off. That is a parent going above and beyond. What this person is doing is basic sh*t

My dad always did just as much for me as my mom growing up despite being the bread winner of the family and working full time. A parent that loves spending time with their children want to come home to their babies and spend time with them. The thing is, my dad didn’t require the praising bullshit a lot of these lazy fathers require to do what is simply expected of a parent. My heart breaks for all the kids out there with essentially absent fathers. It was strange growing up seeing my friends fathers refuse to do things like brush their girl’s hair, bathe them, read for them, draw with them, etc. How else do these men expect to create a relationship with their children?
