I remember reading that article way before finding FDS and it still made me feel ugh reading it. I know it’s revelatory for him and he’s supposedly contrite (plus I saw a lot of my own ex in there) but my overarching itching thought was, like….it was so simple to give a shit, dude. Men get left and then go “woe is me, if only I had done the little things and listened to her, instead of acting like a stubborn asshole and slowly whittling down her will to live until she was forced to give up on me!”

It just left me unsatisfied and I couldn’t articulate why until coming here. Because: If He Wanted To He Would.

He simply did not want to and was entitled enough to believe that was his right and that she’d never leave. He didn’t really care. His pity schtick after the fact rings hollow. Also, men get asspats for writing things like this and looking like very sorry boys, but you still acted that way, man.

I don't buy it. This sounds like an attempt to virtue signal he's now a changed man but wrote a 10 page essay pontificating over women's irrational demands and why men should make a 4 second "sacrifice" and put the dish in the dishwasher.

It’s many, many, MANY, MANY, MANY various instances and acts of inconsideration and lack of care/carelessness over months and even YEARS, where after they finally snap one day and walk, because of the 18,874th time the dishes were left by/in the sink.🙄🤦🏼‍♀️ (You know, the whole “death by a thousand cuts” experience.)

They don’t listen, they don’t care. What in THE FUCK do they expect will eventually happen..??

*Also, I just read that article. Before reading this article, I knew that there was more to story as to why she felt the need to divorce him. It’s not just leaving glasses by the sink. It’s how he treats her and how he behaves. She probably addressed him about this problem many times, and he brushed it off or just acted like a child and she just got tired of picking up after him one day, so she left.

also men like this always say shit like they will gladly put the glass away when they are done with it BUT THEY NEVER DO. I swear they have some sort of amnesia. My ex had this same exact behavior or would leave recycling or cans on the counter or wherever, and, if I left them there, they would be there for several days before I just couldn't stand it anymore and cleaned it up. I would ask him about it and he would insist how clean and tidy he is and how much work he does around the house.

My marriage imploded because he was a repressed closet-case, so that's a whole other ball of wax, but we never had problems living together because we both subscribed to the same basic philosophies, mainly "is this the hill I want to die on?" and "whoever it's more important to, wins." It was important to me that the dishes got into the dishwasher, so they got into the dishwasher. It was important to him that we went out to eat at least once a week, so we went out to eat. And we talked about all of it. I'm not one for simmering resentments, because I partially take that as my own fault — if I don't TELL you what I want/need, I can't blame you for not knowing.

Now that second one only works if you're partnered with an actual adult who isn't a petty asshole. I was recently reminded of how few actual adults I seem to know after spending extended time with someone who still thinks it's hilarious to jump out and startle me when my hands are full. I'm sure a lot of people find that playful, but I'm not one of 'em, and he wouldn't hear it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
