My co-worker recently created this list, inspired by sites like this. As I was reading, I couldn’t decide if I should laugh or be horrified by the reality that violence prevention tips are always aimed at what the targeted person should do (judgment strongly implied) to protect themselves.

Take a look at the "inspirational" page, it's long but very illustrative.

TL;DR: It seems the origin is an e-mail by a radical feminist who was "tired" of seeing advices about how to avoid rape (how to decrease chances, actually), and then wrote a sort of contemptuous / bitter / uppity "tip list" targeted to men.

I have female friends in college that applaud these sort of works. I've been so shamed for being male growing up (slowly and without detecting it) that I'm at a lose for words when this happens.

I gave up arguing with this kind of person long ago when I was told I am "victim-blaming" when I suggest that it's not a good idea to go to drunken frat parties.

I was simply responding to the idea that every man can prevent rape. I asked how can I prevent drunken frat rapists when I hate going to drunken frat parties. My way of preventing rape would be to convince girls I care about to not go, give them something more sane to do.

The point isn't prevention, they merely mock the advice that is in the same vein coming from our side. ("Don't wanna get Raped don't get shit faced at a strangers house", etc. etc.) It's petty but from purely a satirical standpoint it's effective IMHO. People who write these things KNOW it doesn't stop rape. But that is what it seems feminists in the internet age are adept at these days, biting quips and one liners. The Snark is biting, and at times humorous, but if it's all you do you kill the point. It's like they each fancy themselves their own little Colbert's. I personally think MRA's are too hard on feminists. Feminism isn't a blanket movement bent oppressing males. But we treat it like it is, and spent way too much time in this subreddit seething with toxic feminist hate. It's petty and childish. What happened to the focused posts about REAL injustices? The great dads paying CS to shitty mom's? It's getting almost as circlejerk as /r/Atheism in here. edit: I see that they're still there, but it irks me that petty shit like this gets top on the Front page. I think it's a real problem when /r/MensRights show through upvotes that they're more concerned about satire coming from SOME feminists than actual systemic injustices.

Yeah, I was thinking about this last night and trying to come up with an example that is as sexist, came up pretty dry, but here's what I got.

When you see your children, remember not to murder them.

If your baby daddy wants the baby, don't accidentally have an abortion.

Remember, when you see a cute guy across the street, don't accidentally he pregnant.

But these, as stupid and sexist as they are, don't really work because it is at all possible to accidentally do some, and the other is so buried under pro-choice its like cooking with dynamite.

So, here is my final though:

1: If you sleep with someone and regret it later, don't forget it's not rape.

2: If a man talks to you in an elevator it's not rape.
