I spent a lot of last week in the presence of autistic cis het men. I’m autistic myself, but I’m lesbian so obviously not interested romantically and don’t spend time with cis her men often.
However, the difference I observed between them and NT men is that their attraction to me was so blatantly obvious it made me uncomfortable and not want to interact at all. It felt threatening and very difficult to escape. They were very focused on me. So for example we would be in a group but one man focusing all his attention on me, repeatedly asking me questions, looking at me and not others. When I said I was going to bed trying to get me to stay downstairs. Then he started randomly trying to bring sex in to the conversation.

I would leave my room and within minutes this one guy (different to person mentioned before) would appear, repeatedly ask me to sit and talk with him, be very focused on me… despite me being disinterested/saying I wanted to spend the evening with friends. It was horrible because I hate upsetting people and felt really bad that I had to reject him. I’ve experienced violence in response to rejecting a man before so it’s something I hate having to do in case it angers them. But also I just feel bad for them. Despite rejecting one explicitly he still followed me around and continued texting me after I left. Almost like he couldn’t help himself. Even if I had been straight and found him physically attractive this overbearing very obvious interest in me would have put me off.

I upset multiple men with rejections and I am not sure I want to go back again because it somewhat ruined my trip. Feeling like there was this expectation and I had to disappoint people. These are men I started talking to in a friendly way but no sexual interest at all.

I think the main point of this post is to give autistic men some insight in to what they might be doing wrong. But I’m also curious about what people would consider a good way to prevent this discomfort at future mixed gender events? Have any men been like this with women and why? Why didn’t you give her space? I do get fixated on people from time to time but I’m careful not to show it.
