Sometimes people having an option makes them more attractive. Now, they CAN be obnoxious about it like the Tumblr girls were when BOBs (Battery operated boys) were a new thing, or they could just use it to be more stable and not feel feral about not being in a relationship.

Men who know that there will at least be some entity that will reply to them with more than one word or an emoji, and in a timely fashion where it feels like they're not watching TV and need to wait until next week to carry on the topic. Can possibly hone their conversation skills and have better things to do than bark up the wrong trees.

Women can talk to a thing that can't have sex with them or be upset about being friend zoned. It's not going to dip when it finds out it's just getting used. And they can likely give it one word answers and not piss it off, or it'll just do nothing and maybe show them that even AI can't respond properly when given so little to go with.

Maybe it'll make people rely on each other less... But I don't know about anyone else, I don't rely on anyone anyway. I actually feel worse when I confide in others because it's a vulnerable state and in almost every circumstance they can't actually help me.

It could make people more reasonable. "I better be more approachable or he'll go talk to that robot", but I doubt it. If general interactions are applied, most men only amount to favors or free therapy. And women amount to sex and intimacy. Which is why it's the last thing either wants to do for each other.

It'll likely make that more of an issue since it fills a niche of needs that are usually followed with physical attention. If I give away free food and drink but charge you to use the bathroom, most people are going to overeat until they realize what I'm doing.

Tbh I think this is something that’s always gonna be more interesting in theory than in concept. Sure, people falling in love with AI is a thing, but it isn’t common and it is almost universally seen as a problem.

Most people want to connect with people, and at best something like this will be a fad for a couple of years until most people using it get bored and a few stay - and be few who stay? They’re already too far gone to begin with

Dating is only going to get worse for those that rely entirely on dating apps and AI.

Those that have real life friends and regularly go outside to clubs snd social gatherings will be fine

I don't think the technology is quite there yet to satisfy more than a fringe market. If you can't actually fuck, people will prefer the real thing. But once you have A.I. sex robots that look and sound hot, most people are probably going to prefer that. It's only a matter of time. And it's not necessarily a bad thing. People have always freaked out about technology.

This is a great addition to dating for both men and women. It's a win-win for everyone.

For the people that think dating is to hard or troublesome they can turn to AI and have their desires satisfied.

Just pour dopamine in ur brain using these AI companions, all reward no risk. Resulting in happier better people.

AI dating will be fun, easy, safe, controlled, you can make it exactly like you want it. You can probably program exactly your type.

Women can get endless romance from their AI boyfriends.

Men can get endless porn from their AI girlfriend.

Plus whatever else you want.

It seems like self-selection. People who would prefer an AI partner aren't people who would make a good partner to humans in the first place.

Personally, I don't consider it an actual AI boyfriend/girlfriend until it has the ability to leave you of its own volition.

Most people think it wont catch on with real men (tm) but I think you have no imagination if you cant see it. The real worry for women is that ai creates the possibility of a woman replacement that's actually logical.

I think people are overstating how detrimental this will be. It’s a bit, “rock and roll will cause teenagers to like sex and drugs.” People can watch porn, gory movies, listen to death metal, etc. and all this entertainment doesn’t really fuck people up. Or at least I prefer to live in a world where people can entertain themselves however they like and still be expected to act decent.

I do find this concerning, but not really for the same reasons as you. First of all, I don't think it is an indication of something being wrong with the dating world, but rather an indication that AI and specifically chatbots are a massive hype right now and while right now investors might still throw money at them, AI companies will need to find ways to make money off of their products eventually. I think these "AI assistant" and "relationship chatbots" products are an attempt at monetizing chatbots, and the fact that every business is trying to push AI in our face all the time (e.g. the AI overviews on Google or the AI assistant on many smartphones) is so that we become dependent and they can eventually charge money for it. I don't think most people go through their life thinking "My dating life sucks. If only my robot vacuum could talk, he would make such a great boyfriend." I think for many people with a reasonable social life, such a product would just be a gimmicky variant of the calendar app, a search engine, or Clippy from MS office.

There are several reasons why I do find this concerning though. One is a privacy concern because these AI boxes will have to be connected to the server to function properly, and so they will basically spy on everyone who comes to the house of someone who has one. This allows also for more manipulation, e.g. through more targeted ads, not to mention how such data could be used by a malicious government to identify and target political opponents. Another reason is that I do think there is a target demographic for this which are people who are already very lonely and vulnerable. While it might seem like a great option at first to give them someone to talk to, I think it will make people who are already very lonely even lonelier in the long run because talking to a bot is easier than calling up your friends. With the way chatbots behave today I also fear that people who use them will radicalize themselves even faster than with social media algorithms and that if there is a way to generate images/personalized avatars, it will be used to generate non-consensual porn.

Technologists have always fetishized creating virtual companions.

The people who engineer this kind of stuff aren't always exactly social themselves. They design to meet their own wants, not necessarily because society is clamoring for it.
