Yes. This. I have a friend who dated someone who was horrible at texting. They were always having fights over “miscommunication.” She’d say “Oh, he’s just bad at communicating.”

Is he bad at communicating with his boss?? I don’t think so.

Also, WHY would you want to date someone who’s bad at communicating?? Why do that to yourself??

My dating pool is men with kids who are teenagers and up, and it’s astonishing how many of these men who are ‘bad at texting’ are truly excellent at texting with their kids: memes, links to news articles, recipe swapping, advice, etc. They can text; they just are putting the effort in for women they date.

YESSSSS my ex bf was the first HVM I dated on paper but he was immature and emotionally unavailable. I had been :( for 2 months before I dumped him and one reason was that he rarely texted. I even read a book about texting to learn the kinds of texts men like and what to text because I didn't know what to say and had nobody to ask. He ignored most of my messages even after I educated myself.

I stopped trying as he only wanted to text on a day we had plans to confirm plans. When I dumped him we tried being friends for a few months, suddenly now he can respond to all my texts within 30 minutes or immediately after I send them? Nah sis, in the future if someone can't reply in a decent time frame they can get blocked and deleted. I match energy and if you're not into texting I'm not either.

Also, keep in mind that men absolutely don’t tolerate the same behavior from us! I had this boyfriend who got mad that I wasn’t constantly texting him while I was student teaching. I was trying hard to make a good impression at work, and obviously couldn’t be on my phone all day while I was supervising children! He found this unreasonable, because he had never had a job that he couldn’t just text all day. Men don’t sit around and make excuses for women like so many of us unfortunately do. They’re not even understanding when the woman has a valid reason!

He is bad at communicating with words (I don’t buy the ‘being bad at texting but good face to face’). If they can communicate face to face they can do it in writing when they have more time to formulate their thoughts.

At best, he is low effort, at worst he is pushing your boundaries to get you to meet you in person and progress to physical stage.

Other red flag of the ‘I’m bad at texting’ to me: I have so many Textionships, I can’t keep up and you are number 10 in the queue, I’ll get to you when I can.
