So, feeling he is owed something is in fact entitlement by definition. Acting entitled may involve lashing out, but does not always.

Feeling entitled is still feeling entitled. But if you don't do anything about it, I don't know, and therefore don't care.

Acting entitled is still acting entitled even if it doesn't involve anger or violence. For instance, if you inform me that I owe you a blowjob because you took me out to dinner, that is acting entitled, even if you don't use anger or violence.

This isn't complicated.

I think it's both. A guy that wants to lash out because a woman rejected him is entitled. If he gets angry internally because she rejected him, he's also entitled.

If a guy blames women for his dating misfortunes, that's entitlement too

Several people have pointed out the flaw in the line you drew. Feeling owed something is precisely what entitled means.

But there is a tendency to over use or misuse the word. Some frustrated men are entitled. But not all frustrated men are. And some successful people act hugely entitled when denied something. We tend to use it to punch down when that's not the only or best use of the word.

And here and other places on line there's a strong tendency to respond to men commenting "I think I'm doing everything right and I still can't get a date" with "you're not owed one". He implied that he's frustrated or irritated or confused. If that statement elicits a sense of entitlement it's the call coming from inside the house.

As already mentioned by many others, entitlement encompasses beliefs.

Example:
(IF) I’m a woman who believes men owe me and should always pay for all the dates, pay for my hair nails makeup etc because I spend time looking nice to go on the date. I get irked when he doesn’t but I don’t lash out calling him a broke loser. I either decline the date respectfully or refuse to meet him for any further dates.

Would you not think I’m entitled?

Like someone below said, ER and company had internalized resentment long before lashing out at women and killing them. If you dont properly deal with unhealthy thoughts they fester and slowly manifest in your actions. Imagine you do blame women or whatnot and you finally do end up in a relationship. Do you continue to hold these beliefs or do you just expect resentment to melt away as if your thoughts never existed to begin with?

People do pick up on subconscious behaviors, and it does handicap your experience dating. I imagine the typical entitlement that a man feels hurts him about as much as being neurodivergent, which is pretty significant. Except unlike neurodivergence, you have some responsibility over the lens through which you view the world. Therapy goes a long way in breaking down these thoughts and building foundations for healthy thinking.

So if I go out with my mate and buy us both a coffee, she might owe me a coffee, but she doesn't owe me anything beyond that. And if I invited her out and offered to pay, she doesn't even owe me the coffee.

The entitlement comes in when you assume that because I bought her a coffee, she now owes me something, unless that something was discussed beforehand.

Violence has absolutely nothing to do with it.

No, because you can feel entitled without expressing it. Someone can feel owed something or that they deserve something for being "good" even if they don't outright say it to the person rejecting them

Just like we can be jealous or spiteful against or towards people without ever expressing it

Edit: basically acting entitled and being entitled aren't necessarily the same things. You can still feel entitled without acting on that feeling

Most male morality on this is based on the unexamined prior that widespread monogamy is the aim of society and should be achievable in a gender-fair way. Male expectations and 'entitlement' are downstream of this. For this to work, women cannot be too sexually selective. Thus men feel 'entitled' insofar as they believe that if 50th percentile mate value women are holding out for 70th percentile men, the women are being wrong. Hypergamy by this metric needs to be constrained.

I think women take for granted that 99% of the world’s infrastructure, material, logistics, distribution, assembly, etc are all directly and physically handled by men. Every building, road, pipe, and sewer, from here to China and back around from the time it was just raw earth was terraformed and maintained by men.

Ive never heard society talk about. In between the morning meetings about Rape stats, toxic masculinity, “women in STEM”, wives’ unpaid labor, WGTOW in men’s buildings…. This topic never came up.

That’s another type of entitlement. Anybody agree? Or no, we only talk about unpaid labor women do and what men feel owed?
