Q4W: How do you propose the lives of the "excess, unwanted men" play out, and how is that scenario realistic? I have never seen a satisfying response.

If you don't care what happens to them, then 1. you are a terrible person, selfish to put it mildly, and 2. the premise of the question is that you get to say how their lives play out - even if poorly for them - so if you're going to dodge the question, why reply to this comment in the first place?

I could say what I think women need to do, but that's not the topic here.

Every idea I've seen is vague, and worse, unrealistic. Either they propose something impossible from the start (e.g., all men ... somehow ... become much more physically fit than they are already, and get high paying jobs, and spend more time on social hobbies, and go to therapy, and rely more on male friends for emotional support, and, and, and), or are unsustainable (e.g., these men just have dull lives filled with work, hobbies, etc. anything other than sex or a romantic relationship). Unsustainable in that, the proposal for these men boils down to them - at best - having dull lives, bereft of joy, and at worst, unpleasant lives, and left unsaid is the expectation that things will just keep going on as normal. I don't think it is realistic to expect things to go along as normal, i.e., unsustainable. If you keep pushing someone to live with less, eventually there comes a point where they can't take any more.

Proposing that these men somehow (magically?) find different things to be passionate about is in the "impossible from the start" category: it is unrealistic to expect people to arbitrarily drop the things they're passionate about and become passionate about arbitrary other things. If you aren't willing to divorce your husband, become a monk, and devote your life to perfecting the craft of basket weaving, then how is it realistic to expect men to do something like that?

Here's the thing: you contribute to the answer that emerges whether you choose to dodge the question or not. You have to answer. A non-answer is just "leaving it up to however it plays out" as an answer.

So, I'd love to hear what women propose, expect, "should," etc. for how the lives of the men (who are practically unwanted by woman) are to play out. Please only propose thing that, if you were in their shoes, you would be happy with, because if you wouldn't be happy with that plan, then I don't see it as a realistic mass, long-term solution.

I believe the women here have a habit of asking baited questions not entirely to prove a bias, but to disapprove a bias. Look at some of the more “leading” or straw mannish posts that have cropped up in the sub, the posts that push certain extremes and ideals. Look at the tone, observe the tone of the OPs. I have to say it is a bit sad if people here feel they must do this, in order to dispel a bias. If they feel the answers are wrong, or someone doesn’t recognize the tactic, it results in anger because their bias was proved.

I (M26) think I have fallen in love with my Sister-in-law (F23)

Ok. Yeah I'm screwed. I know.

My wife (F27) and I (M26) got married in Nov 2019 (M23 & F24). My SIL (F23) got married to her fiancé (M26) back in July 2018 (F20 & M22).

My wife and her sister are super super close, in part due to certain chilhood experiences and trauma so I spent a lot of time with her, even when dating. When I started dating my wife, back when I was my 20 and my SIL was 18; I found my future SIL kinda immature and childish; though I did find her bubly personality refershing. Though when seeking a partner I was a lot more attracted to my future wife's intelligence (she was a 4.0 GPA Engineering Science student when we met), determination, ambitious, interest in public policy, and general focus on life. She had gone through similliar struggles in life and had similliar goals and could realte very well, especially when it came to intelligence, ambition, and interest in policy. We both had goals and were working hard to achieve them. Looks are more of a bonus to me than anything else but since I know people will ask, I would say that at that time my wife would be considered a 10 by many while my SIL would be a 6.5. My SIL was at that time already dating her husband so it is not like she was an option anyway.

Anyway overtime as SIL matured she grew on me and we became good friends; especially after I married my wife. In fact, outside our respective spouses, my SIL and I are each other's best friends. She is no longer the childish impulsive person she once was, but is still a force of optimism and friendliness that can brighten any day and can show the light to anyone in a dark place. She also is the kindest, most caring, sweetest person I ever met; is extremely athletic, and despite still being a bit scatterbrained she would make an excellent Mother and is a natural with kids. She also had a glow-up in looks to an 8.5 while my wife had a glow down to a 9. Again, this is not me being shallow; this is what broader «rate me» has said; just to make sure everyone gets a full pic, in that my SIL did become more physically attractive.

But really it was her maturing personality that did it. After the pandemic hit; things changed. I became less interested in career climbing and ambition and more focused on what really mattered. While I alwasy wanted a family, pre-COVID my success came first; now family has become first. My baby fever while light started accelerating. Due to job and financial loss at the time I also became really depressed and it was my SIL who helped me out through my struggles. She was my guiding light, more so than my wife, during this tough time.

Now I love my wife. I love the moments we shared; how we grew as a couple. I still love her as a friend and as partner; we spend quality time together and love each other. But there are times where I see that I have fallen in love with my SIL as well. There is a certian loving embrace in her hugs; a certain kindness in care in her voice; a certain maternal way she interacts with kids. The way she can bring a smile in the darkest hour. I cannot help but fall in love with her. I right now love my wife, but have fallen in love with my already married sister in law
