This comic is kind of bad because it conflates two issues: women getting raped because they were dressed in revealing clothing (which is definitely still rape and inexcusable) and women consenting to sex, which is not rape. We shouldn't conflate these two issues and act like they are the same, because they are certainly not.

This item is (partly) contradictary to 'MensRights'.

Saying a female provokes rape by dressing like a slut is saying males don't have the self-control over their own actions. Which isn't really arguing PRO males, now is it?

(On a side note I do agree that some females make up rape stories out of shame or something, which is of course bad. However, no need to generalize on a subject that has so many serious victims)

The problem with this analogy is that rapists don't usually rape just because there's suddenly an opportunity. They rape because they are fucked up individuals and therefore use an opportunity most of us would not.

You know, I used to smugly throw this analogy around too. On the surface it makes perfect sense, if a guy is flashing his money around and gets robbed, he has no one to blame but himself. I felt the same applied to woman who dressed like sluts.

The thing is, I did some research, and people educated me, and the stats/facts show that it doesn't matter what a girl is wearing; she's going to get raped no matter what. To a rapist, it doesn't matter if she is wearing a bikini, or a big winter coat. He's going to rape her no matter what.

I do agree however with the analogy about "changing her mind the next day". I think that is some b.s.

This is gross. If someone has been raped, they've been raped. This is a great analogy for what happens when somebody says people should try and be responsible to prevent rape. But once a person has been raped, the crime is committed and they are a victim. It doesn't do anyone any good to blame a victim for the crime committed after the fact, and it's cruel.

You can try to talk about false rape accusation without mocking actual rape issues. Also, it's better if you use the real reasons for why people tend to cry rape after a drunken hookup (feeling shame because they thought they were "better" than a drunk hookup, or because they cheated on their SO, or fear of reprisal from parents) rather than a snippy jibe about attractiveness. Make a message that actually speaks, rather than one that will just make the choir smug but piss off anyone who might have listened to your side had you phrased it without being obnoxious.

Agency vs moral culpability. The two don't interact: your responsibility to conduct your affairs in a sensible manner does not detract from the moral responsibility (fault) of the person who committed the crime in the first place. The former is not victim blaming, but without the latter, it DOES become abusive. If you use agency to try and detract from moral culpability, you lose your human ability to empathize. At the same time, however, the problem with this "i was drunk, willfully engaged in sex, then regretted it later' trope is a different animal all entirely, and includes foggy issues such as "What is the nature of consent?", "Does consent differ between women and men? Why?", and "Where does the buck stop, and if this standard fair and just to all parties involved?". But I digress.

After a bit of frustration reading comments and providing comments for this thread, I need to have a bit of a shpeal. Downvote if you must.

First off, whether or not women should be dressed scantily and be victim blamed or not, the fact is that there are only one group of sufferers in the end...the victims themselves. Some people victim blame because they're misogynists, some people victim blame as a poor expression of safety forewarning. In addition, some people are entitled, privileged brats who aren't fighting for women's freedom, but are just complaining because "society doesn't let them dress sexy".

Freedom of expression is important, understanding that victims shouldn't be blamed for rape is important, but nothing is more important than an individual's safety.

A lot of young minds out there would dress would read comments like "You aren't asking for it even if you dress scantily", and go out in revealing clothing, and not understand an ounce of safety and risk management. These are usually the same people that get drunk, go home alone, etc, and it is incredibly dangerous. A rapist won't care about men's rights, nor will they care about feminism, and that's reality.

So, it doesn't matter what you believe in or which side you take, if you are a woman reading any of this please learn how to protect yourself and be safe.

Do you really think this is relevant to men's rights? If a man is waving his money around and gets mugged does that mean the mugging was justified and legal? The "she was asking for it" argument against rape ASSUMES that women should be conservative because they should ASSUME that all men are waiting to take advantage.
