According to the oversimplifications of TRP women are all part of the same hivemind and prefer the same kind of man: Chad. TRPers always worry about universal scales of physical attractiveness and about appealing to all women, while it would actually make more sense to be more polarizing. You don't have to be okay for most, you only have to be hot for some.

In reality there's little agreement between women on what they find attractive.

"Men agree a lot more about who they find attractive and unattractive than women agree about who they find attractive and unattractive," said study researcher Dustin Wood, assistant professor of psychology at Wake Forest University in North Carolina.

Participants each rated nearly 100 photographs of either men or women, depending on the participant's gender and sexual orientation. They scored how attractive they found each photographed individual on a 10-point scale from "not at all" to "very" attractive.

Men tended to base their attractiveness ratings on women's physical features, giving stellar marks to those who looked thin and seductive.

Women showed some preference for thin, muscular men. But they also disagreed over the hotness factor of many men, with some women giving a guy high attractiveness ratings while others scored the same guy as not attractive at all.

Do men actually agree more on what makes a person attractive or was there something about the photos that caused men to rate them in certain ways? To figure this out, the researchers turned to the homosexual ratings. Sure enough, gay men showed a greater consensus about attractiveness levels of photos of men than did straight women of those same photos.

And straight men also showed more consensus than lesbians in terms of attractiveness ratings of the photos of women.

Hot or not? Men agree on the answer. Women don't. There is much more consensus among men about whom they find attractive than there is among women, according to a new study.

"Women who are trying to impress men are likely to be found much more attractive if they meet certain physical standards, and much less if they don't. Although men are rated as more attractive by women when they meet these physical appearance standards too, their overall judged attractiveness isn't as tightly linked to their physical features."

And additionally to the OkCupid blog post Your Looks and Your Inbox various studies have shown that looks matter less to women

We study dating behavior using data from a Speed Dating experiment where we generate random matching of subjects and create random variation in the number of potential partners. Our design allows us to directly observe individual decisions rather than just final matches.

Women put greater weight on the intelligence and the race of partner, while men respond more to physical attractiveness. Moreover, men do not value women's intelligence or ambition when it exceeds their own.

Here is data from a blind study study of how men rated women, and as we know there's even less agreement when women rate men

One sees that with the exception of the ratees in columns 10 and 16, all ratees had at least one rater who perceived her attractiveness to be noticeably above average and at least one rater who perceived her attractiveness to be noticeably below average.

Here too, one sees that there are very few people who are consistently rated as being above average or below average.

Attractiveness isn't as universal as TRPers make it out to be. There's a whole lot of variation in what people are attracted to, especially for women.

You don't have to become attractive to what you think all women are attracted to. You can become attractive in your niche as well and look for women that want you and not the fake-alpha dark-triad wannabe-Chad you are trying to be.
