Neither. If a man views women as either whores or madonnas, he's not giving his best to either of them. He treats ''The Whore'' as nothing more than a sex object and who knows if she's actually getting any pleasure out of it herself. He treats ''The Madonna'' as some kind of image of The Mother and will probably not consider her sexual needs because he can't think of her as a person that has such needs. He might cheat on ''The Madonna'' with ''The Whore'', which he will most likely dump at some point and find another woman to cheat on his partner with.

In both cases he doesn't treat these women as people with their own desires and needs, he just reduces them to what he's decided they're good for and denies that they can be a complex person with many different aspects to themselves.

Keep in mind we're talking about the psychiatric theories of a guy multiple generations out of date, describing a specific kind of person that existed due to social norms that are obviously way less applicable as time goes on.

But in that context people are assuming the Madonna has a loving and satisfying relationship otherwise, when thats very obviously going to be untrue. People got married due to social norms and didn't divorce nearly as much. Your relationship could be respectable but how satisfied either of you were is obviously much less relevant to the public. Theres a reason that people resenting their partners was a common cultural trope for so long.

I think it is too binary of analogy. And very dated. Depends on what’s considered to be a man’s “ best side”

As a man, a woman’s commitment to me is worth nothing if it’s based in something other then her desire to be good to me, be with me, and attraction to me based on who I am.

I don’t care for a women who can be sexually loyal or perform all her gender roles under the condition that I perform the gender roles she desires.

So as always, it depends. I as a man, may not commit my life to the “whore” but In the space with said women, my desires and comfort will be met, and I’m going to treat her well because 1. I don’t look down on her for being sexual, and 2. Because she otherwise treats me extremely well and connects with my desire.

On the other hand. If I commit my life to the Madonna, then I’ve made my commitment in the hopes that this Madonna may or may not be said whore some day, and likely none of my desires will be met.
