I'm a single, childless woman, not 45 though but the rest fits. I'm choosing not to date right now. After work I like to take my dog out, read, watch tv, work out, meet friends or family or something. Maybe take a nap if I feel like it. I like cooking and sometimes I invite family or friends over.

On weekends I like to go out in the countryside, let my dog run loose. Then I read, watch TV, do my hobbies, meet friends or family. On saturday nights I like to go out dancing, going to the movies, meet up with friends over white wine/beer or just stay in and watch a movie and eat popcorn and cuddle with my dog

Looks great to me. She is still dating if she wants to. Still enjoying sex if that is important to her. I suspect she has more than a couple friends, but she has the same options she had in her younger years because those options aged with her.

Doesn’t matter if men her age “prefer” younger women. Those men are aged and their physical appeal and prowess aged with them. They can’t get younger women. But they might be able to get those two women.

If she's truly content and childfree (meaning she didn't want kids, not to be confused with childless women who wanted kids but couldn't have them for whatever reason), then I don't see what the issue is.

Sounds like she has a pretty great life. An above average income with no kids probably means she can travel, pay for small luxuries like spa trips and massages and devote as much energy as she wants to her hobbies. I’m also assuming she’s single by choice and maybe hasn’t met someone who she wouldn’t have to give her lifestyle up for who’s also child free.

I'm assuming she spends her weekends doing whatever hobbies she enjoys. Maybe she's a Disney World annual pass holder, maybe she has nieces and nephews that she spoils, maybe she's on a pool, dart or bowling league or roller derby. Who knows?

There's really no definitive box she can be placed in.

Since you are describing me I will answer, except I have more than a couple of friends. And the answer is I do whatever the heck I want because I have no one to answer to. Do I cook? Maybe a frozen pizza. I make a mid six figure salary and I hate to cook so normally I order in or pick something up on my way home. On the weekends? It depends. I usually meet friends for brunch, I visit museums, I love the zoo, I do a lot of weekend trips as I love to travel, I can hop onto tinder or any dating app and snag a date if I want to have some fun. I enjoy plays and shows, concerts. I visit family and friends. I volunteer at an animal shelter, and the military hospital, I also do something called honor flight. On the weekends I sleep in, I usually wake up around 9:00 or so, I take a peloton class I binge watch some netflix, it really depends on the weekend. I go shopping, I take a walk.

True happiness comes from relationships and memories. You miss out on some of the pleasurable relationships and memories when you don't have a family. Just like if you never made any friends and just stuck to your family.

Friends cannot replace family, but family can replace friends. Friendship is an important social need for humans. But the relationship one has with their children and spouse satisfies a distinct innate social need that friends cannot.

I have no judgement about her. It's good if she is happy. But more likely than not she feels as if something is missing from her life because that distinct innate social need.

Other than the occasional intrusive thoughts about regretting not starting a family, probably a pretty normal life. Works, comes home, does the hobby, maybe talks with friends, goes to bed. Repeat.

Happiness is a state of mind to a very extreme subjective degree (yes, there can be objective states where you can/cannot, under reasonable circumstances, be happy!

I have a near perfect life- loving, caring parents wholeheartedly taking care of my finances, a dozen or so good friends, single (I presume thats because I have low self esteem and good amount of Imposter syndrome), doing okay in studies, good career prospects (with all humility and gratitude to the almighty, if one exists)...etc. Yet I feel miserable most of days!

So my point is a woman that you have described here can be happy and contented with her life in a resonable manner or she could be living in utter misery and depression! Your hypothetical situation is well, just hypothetical!

NB: Somewhere in past, I came across a paper showing single women in their 40s reported to be happier than single men. I can't seem to find it's source hence not using it as an argument to substantiate my opinion!

I’d imagine it’s not much different than most single people or even couples without kids. She probably lives a normal life. Makes herself modest meals, watches entertainment on TV or upkeeps her home most days. Maybe she babysits her families kids for extra money. She might volunteer in her community. She probably has some sort of hobby that she likes like gardening, yoga, art etc.

I never, ever judge the happiness of others. Some o the surface seem to have a great life and are miserable. Some have every logical reason to be miserable and are happier than pigs in shit. I think some is deliberately trying for gratitude, some just the temperament they are born with, and some is due to how securely they felt loved and cared for as a child.

But on the surface? Her life is probably pretty similar to mine, except she probably spends more time with friends and probably cooks less.

Weekday: * lives in an average apartment wants something better and probably a home but with costs and no spouse it would be a while till she gets one worth the cost. * gets ready for work by 7 to beat the traffic and gets to work by 9 * socializing with some work “friends” before getting to work. * finishes work goes home to feed cat and dog * drinks some wine while watches typical low quality TV or reads low quality novel, nothing that is actually engaging or well written. * goes to bed by 10:30 to repeat the cycle.

Weekend: * wakes up later * goes to the gym, plays hopscotch on the machine and does cardio. No really routine just wants to feel like she did something * takes dog out for a hike, so it can protect her(dog is probably a smaller dog so it’s useless) * she other older guy to talk to but realizes he’s married(wants a partner so she doesn’t grow old alone) * rarely meets her friends on weekends since most friends have kids and a husband that they spend time with. When she doesn’t she cherishes it. * occasionally hopes on hinge or bumble but most the guys are low quality and the good ones don’t match with her. * drinks wine goes to her entertainment and then goes to bed.

My day goes like this. The alarm goes off at 6.00 or 8/9. I have a wash/shower, clean teeth, get dressed, get a bus to work, have lunch while working, finish early or late depending on shifts, get a bus home, make dinner, prepare lunch for the following day, go on social media for an hour or so then go to bed, watch a Blu-ray/DVD and then go to bed. That's pretty much my average day.

On my days off I have a lye-in (catch up on sleep) and either stay in or go out pursuing my hobbies and interests (depending on if the weather is good and I have the available finances).

Considering I have an aunt in my grandparents house right now doing exactly that...

I believe she...

Is in her phone or laptop computer most of her day interacting with other people using modern day technology but not really satiating her desire for attention or bonds.
Playing with her cats.
Walking around doing housework for their mother.
On weekends. Walking around with other single friends or their bf on the weekend here and there.

She has some friends and close family but she seems to crave way more social interaction... so much so

Her nephews and nieces who used to like her cause she would bring gifts fallen off with her cause she is too prone to cause drama and want too much attention unnecessarily.
Her family and friends group refuse to talk with her about their inner life in fear of everyone hearing about it. So she is left off most of important shameful things.
Her long term boyfriend who doesnt wanna to commit and seems to be able to tone out her constant talking when they are together.

She usually is:

Confident
- But overly so for most of the time, but when any adversity hits her she breaks easier than fine China.
Go-get mentality
- But it only live for a few days, at best, after that they go back to their normal slouchy selves for a few months until the next time
Hard working/educated
- But deeply depressed by it cause she clearly dont like her job (like almost everyone) and being a manager is not rewarding in any way. Making her only giving the minimal amount of returns for the company, which the company doesnt care cause she is paid about the minimal amount too.
Fitness
- But it is because she wants to compensate her age, with mixed results, and her personality/behavior never really improve, so her outwards beauty tends to be just a way to cope with lacking skills in socializing and being for all intents and purposes a burden to be around to family, friends, partners and strangers.

Am I... getting any close to what you imagined?

Highly dependent on the individual. She may be perfectly happy and fulfilled, or she may be miserable and feel that she has missed the train. To suggest that she must be miserable is just red pill delusion. Red pill is just largely non-select men being bitter and wishing the same emotional suffering on women that we have experienced ourselves. Loneliness, depression, a complete lack of fulfilment.
