Strict 50/50 has its own issues, but they aren’t related to sex. It’s just hard to split absolutely everything exactly 50/50 and there are things that can be split at all like pregnancy and birth. It also puts too much emphasis on division of labor 50/50 and not in a way that might make more sense for both partners.

Equal and egalitarian relationships can and do work though. The end goal isn’t to have everything 50/50, but both partners viewing and treating each other as equals and diving labor in a way that it works best for both of them. Sometimes it means one partner does more chores or more childcare while the other works more.

Sex-wise both partners get sex. If you view sex as a transaction, you probably shouldn’t be in romantic relationships whatsoever. Women aren’t all sex workers providing sex in exchange of money, quite a lot of us want to have sex with our partners, we don’t view it as something we give.

I do think 50/50 has its issues, and if you only want one part of it ie equality in only finances or only household chores then you should reevaluate for your relationships. If everything is a point scoring system and you keep track of things to an exact percentage you’ll never truly be comfortable. A good relationship is give and take and will always be fluid, sometimes someone might become ill and lose their job in which case the other partner might have to take over for a while, similar to pregnancy in which for a while a woman might not be able to work/clean for a short period of time. Also if sex is just something the man is enjoying in a relationship find a different partner

So men benefited more from relationships when they were only expected to do 1 thing, and now, when the burden of that 1 thing is shared (to varying degrees but most households need 2 people working), they don't want to share the other burdens of everyday life, so relationships are not equal? Okaaaay.

I do think 50/50 (or 100/100) is something people should strive for in relationships but it's not a realistic expectation, shit happens, people get sick, one person might have longer or weird hours/a more demanding job, mental health issues might poke their ugly head into your life, you'll have periods when it's 60/40 or 70/30. Hell, depending on how bad things are for one person, it might be 80/20. That's okay for a period of time but if one person is expected to carry the relationship/family/household indefinitely, you're going to see problems. Eventually, and almost inevitably, resentment will start bubbling under the surface.

Edit: Did you forget that we also get sex out of the relationship?

Men and women have the same sex frequency. For men and women aged 20-35, for the years 2020 and 2021, for both sexes 15% had no sex, 7% had sex once or twice a year, 13% had sex once per month, and the rest had sex several times per month to several times per week (which is mostly relationship sex). So no, single men are not celibate and single women show pretty much the same sex frequency.

I don’t believe in putting a price on sex or quantifying how much hookers would be. Because in my own viewpoint I don’t want to tie sex to how much money my husband gives me or how many promotions he gets; nothing would kill my sex drive quicker.

Plus, anecdotal here but even when you have a lot of regular casual sex, the best is typically with longstanding partners who know your body, know what you like, and get better at making you feel good.

I agree that men don't provide as much value as they used to. Consequently, relationships in the past weren't often 50/50, the man was traditionally seen as the head of the household and the woman was financially dependent on the man. This is no longer the case.

The sex I get from my husband is better than any sex I could get anywhere else. I don’t even think I could pay for sex of that quality, since I think being in love is a contributing factor. I get more orgasms than him, which makes sense as men aren’t as able to do that. If you feel like you are contributing way more sexually and not getting what you want in return, you may need to find a man who is a better match.

Quantity doesn’t equal quality, so women being able to get bad sex of unlimited quantity doesn’t really mean they don’t get something of value from good sex with their partners. It also feels better when it’s something you enjoy, rather than something you are doing for money.
