I see a lot of guys in here trying to make sense of what just happened to them. I was there. I drove myself crazy trying to use logic on a situation that had none.

Here is the hard truth it took me two years to figure out:

We operated on Duty. We went to work, paid the bills, fixed the house, and stayed loyal. We thought that "sweat equity" meant something. We thought it bought us security.

She operated on Happiness. "I’m just not fulfilled." "I love you but I’m not in love with you."

The biggest mistake I made during my divorce was thinking my "Duty" gave me leverage. I thought if I was just fair and nice, she would remember all the work I put in.

I was wrong. The court system didn't care that I worked overtime for 15 years. They just looked at the numbers.

I almost went broke trying to be the "good guy."

The only thing that saved me was when I finally accepted that she wasn't my wife anymore she was a lawsuit. I had to stop listening to my feelings and start looking at my math.

If you are just starting this nightmare: stop trying to figure out "why." You can’t use logic to understand someone chasing a feeling.

Protect yourself. Know your survival number. Stop bleeding out for someone who didn't appreciate the blood you already gave.

Stay strong, Fellas.
