Fact of the matter is: Men today are struggling massively in various areas of life. Be it academia, work, dating—the statistics are painting a clear picture.

Yet, society and the current Zeitgeist puts a disproportional amount of focus on women's issues (and in many cases non-issues), all the while men are almost being coerced into believing that that whole distorted picture of women being universally disadvantaged in just about anything reflects reality. The result: Even men tend to give a disproportional amount of weight to women's issues while neglecting their own.

Women view it as a threat when male-specific issues receive attention

Let's look at it from this angle: Women care about their own issues. At the same time, they have a strong tendency to not care about men's struggles. In many cases, they'll actually try to downplay men's struggles and shift the focus back to female-specific issues. We've all seen it: Someone brings up common male issues of today and you'll instantly have women trying to convince them that it can't be that bad because "women are dealing with X, Y and Z". (This subreddit is a prime example of this phenomenon, by the way.)

It all boils down to them trying to preserve their universal victim status in society. Many women are perfectly aware that men are doing far worse than them in many areas. Yet, they don't want society to acknowledge that because they view it as a threat to women's status as victims that need to be catered to.

Thus: If no one looks after men, men need to start looking after themselves. Women do have their own issues, but men today are in no position to put a disproportional amount of focus on female issues when they themselves are struggling immensely.

Research shows: People are more accepting of men falling behind because they are more likely to believe that men fall behind due to low effort compared to women

A recent study from the Journal of the European Economic Association demonstrates: Men are falling behind, but people tend to not care and view it as men's personal failure.

The study's core findings are:

1. People are less supportive when men are behind

Across experiments, respondents were less willing to redistribute resources to disadvantaged men than to disadvantaged women.

2. Men who fall behind are more often blamed for their situation

Participants were significantly more likely to think:

  • men behind in education/work
  • had exerted low effort or were more personally responsible for their outcomes.

Furthermore:

  • Most homeless people are men. More precisely, around 70% of homeless people in the US are male.
  • Most victims of violent crime are men. In 2025, there were 507,000 male victims of violent crime compared to 473,000 female victims of violent crime.
  • Most people who die in wars are men. No need to elaborate.
  • Most people in prison are men. More precisely, over 90 % of the incarcerated population in the US and Europe are men.
  • Men are worse off in the education system. In 2021/22, only 40% of men in the UK were in higher education by age 19, compared to 54% of women, a gap that has grown.

I could go on. And this brings me right back to the main premise of this thread:
Men, look after yourselves. Because no one else will look after you.
