Whatever body type is hardest for women to obtain during the time, that's what men claim they want. Because it's not really about how women look. Men will have sex with almost anyone. Their true preferred body type is "hole."

Body types have two purposes:

1) Allowing men to power-trip off making women jump through hoops, tear themselves apart, hate their bodies, hate other "prettier" women, and gorge/starve themselves to obtain a shape that is not natural or not easy for them to get.

2) Having a woman who manages to conform most closely to the ideal body type to use her as a bragging tool to increase his status with other men.

This is only one of the many reasons ideal body types shouldn't be taken seriously.

I am thinking about our youngest members here, since those who are over 25 have probably seen several body types being "in" and "out" over and over again. Whoever is into you is into you, period.

It's scary and disturbing that having a specific body shape is a trend. Women's bodies shouldn't be a trend that goes in and out of style. What are all these young women with obvious fillers and brazilian butt lifts going to do when 20 years from now it's going to be something else trending?

I had to accept that my body is not "in style" unless I get plastic surgery and that lots of current fashion(like fashion nova) isn't flattering for my body type.

The only body trends I've seen for men are either being skinny emo, fit or dadbod and those are achievable without surgery.

As a petite WOC, I've felt so much insecurity about my body growing up. I was a skinny kid growing up and when I hit puberty, I felt like something was wrong with me since I didn't have an ample bust and butt. I was always made fun of for "not having meat on my bones". I was in marching band through high school and college and I realized I enjoy being fit and slightly muscular. And black women have always been shamed for having curves while also being told to lose weight. And the whole "slim thick" mess is ridiculous and only popularized by the Kardashians 🙄. Sorry for the rant.

THIS. I have an idea that even our ideas of femininity are rooted in classism. The only women who were "docile and frail" in olden times were women who were so powerful socially that their demeanor could be fragile. I'm sure you've heard of the Princess and the Pea? She was the ideal daughter-in-law because her bitching about a freaking pea show's how spoiled and sheltered and luxurious she was. Many people at that time slept on the freaking floor.

Are jewels, beautiful dresses, extensive grooming and makeup inherently feminine, or do rich women who's tasks are delegated to poorer women like to flaunt what they have?

And now that anyone with a minimal wage is able to afford (fake) jewelry, decent fast fashion, and grooming, why is it that feminity is "vain" and "shallow"?

Yes. Yes I feel like this all the time. One more facet of this scam: skin color.

For many countries the ideal went from "white white white like you've never had to go out in the sun to work" to "still white of course, but like you have a house in a sunny tropical place, and go on vacation constantly" aka "white but really pushing the limits of your skin and good thing you can afford expensive treatments to remove your age spots down the line".

One of the saddest things as a woman and as a POC, is my health has always been a direct reflection of my socioeconomic status. Healthy food is a luxury. So is healthcare and a seemingly easy visit to the dentist.

The world has been crap lately, especially considering Covid. So trying to maintain a diet, a healthy exercise regime, and basic skincare is a privilege reserved for the privileged.

Yep. This is exactly why I eyeroll whenever I see certain male-dominated sections of the internet make claims about women's standards for appearance being too high & supposedly causing issues in society. Like, no, women's ideal appearance has remained pretty much the same always, and that has never been the primary factor for judgement anyway. Men's standards change with the wind, meanwhile they will endlessly argue that every variation is due to biology. As though we didn't all clearly see that just in the early 2000s, thinness was favored and now 15-20 years later it's all about being thick or curvy-fit. They are incredibly easily influenced in this area.

Don't forget it's also pretty racist as well. Big lips and a large behind weren't "popular" until we had surgeries & procedures so that rich women who weren't naturally blessed with those could have them. All features have their own beauty but you have to be rich AND white to have precisely the features that are considered the most attractive nowadays. Or if you're not white but have those features, you must be pretty white-passing. But either way for the most part it perfectly excludes poor women (including poor white women) and WOC unless you pass enough.

well now its a trend to be thick but only in certain areas. just looking at the shit on instagram its every model/influencer with fat sucked out of the 'bad areas' and injected into the preferable areas. so yeah, need money for that.. so this^ checks out.

This is why I’ve never agreed with the boost in plastic surgery in all of these women who are getting the same body when most of it is just insecurity from our shitty society. I’ve hated my body and thought it was disgusting before bc ppl (MAINLY BOYS AND MEN) said I was fat, ugly, unfuckable, and unproportional. How did I overcome this ? Realizing that people say things that are subjective to them and that I was hating myself over the opinions of others. These opinions that I repeated in my head didn’t come from me so I started rewriting the script and now I’m happier and more comfortable with my body. Also, realizing that comparison of your body to others takes away from the fact that you are human and there are over 7 billion ways to look like a human.

This is so true! As an older member I’ve seen fads for various body types come and go but the song remains the same. It’s a trap ladies, we all need to stop buying beauty magazines and clicking on those websites. Literally do not remember seeing a single article on fashionable body type for men over the past two decades!

I was lucky enough to spend a lot of time with my great grandma as a kid. She was born in 1930, so she endured starvation, WW2 and God knows how many other things. I'll never forget her telling me I should gain weight because people will think we're financially struggling if they see me this thin lol. Body fat was unachievable for the average Romanian peasant, it was something only the elites could have. It was a symbol of status and subsequently, a symbol of beauty. It's mind boggling that she lived long enough to see the opposite

In Mauritania where plump is the beauty standard, some women force feed their daughters to prepare them for marriage. Girls as young as five are forced and sometimes beaten into eating this 9000 calorie diet. If you need a reference the average calorie intake of an adult man is 2000. I saw a video where a healthy little girl was excited to begin this because she believed that she wasn't pretty with her current healthy weight and believed that she would be attractive once she became fat. The mother in said video was warned by the doctor that this could lead to some fatal consequences but the cultural pull was too strong and she started her daughter on this. Some insightful comments suggested that it wasn't so much that the men considered the fatter girls attractive but more so to speed the process of puberty so that these girls could get married off by 13/14, because even if you are 11 but bleed and have curves you are considered an adult woman.

I wish Instagram fit and a leisurely lifestyle where in because I look like that but I am an outcast in my area because most women work full time and do not have time to work out because they're too busy working and slaving away after lvm husbands or live in boyfriends.
