I understand, I'm 56 but for me personally I live by one rule. Be happy and content with yourself. If love or just a relationship does come along that is just icing on the cake. Divorcing after 19 years and all our kids are grown of course. I face taking care of my elderly mother and just myself. I'm okay with that though. It isn't that I don't want companionship I do but if I'm single and alone the rest of my life I'm okay with that. Don't let your relationship status determine your value and worth. To many other things to live for in life.

im 37 and i envy you. i have to go thru the majority of my life still, with this shit hanging over my head, feeling like a failed husband and father, and i no longer can see my kids cos the ex left and took them abroad.

you're 59, even with good health you only have about 20 years left. i have about 40 years left. you dont have to start over. you can just plod along and before you know it you're life will be ending anyway. only way my life ends sooner than yours is if i jumped off a bridge.

I will be 59 this year I was married for 27 years and the divorce was final Jan 2024. I am excited about what lies ahead as you should be as well.

Bro, I’m 59 also. Divorced from 35yr marriage in Nov. This was not my plan. My financial aspirations in future retirement needed a big-time adjustment. Nevertheless, I am experiencing so much peace and happiness. I’m not dating, and may never. I am involved with divorce groups, which I find tremendously helpful. I don’t need to figure it all out now. For the first time in my life I have the opportunity to discover what I want to do and become. I look forward to it.

I thought I would never find someone again. I had given up hope. Met her dancing at an 80's band concert. We clicked and kept in touch. So, there is love and a second chance out there. My kids are grown and gone, hopefully yours too. Time for you to be selfish and do what you want and get what you want. There is still time. Lots of time. 59, you're still a spring chicken!!

Sorry to hear that you've been exposed to a Gray divorce. I feel for you - the fact that I still have time to recover is one of the few things keeping me motivated nowadays. That is not to say you're alone though, many boomers are experiencing Gray divorce, per CGA it's actually the fastest increasing demographic of divorce.

I was divorced at almost 57 after 25+ years. Came out of the blue. We were preparing for retirement which I would have done at 57. I had the House paid off, both cars paid off (hers was 2 years old, mine 16 years old which I always drove mine into the ground so she could have new cars), $150K in the bank, $1.4 million in my retirement account, and a pension. She decided she wanted to be 25 again (running, gym, etc to lose weight) and the day I came home and told her the doctor thought I had cancer, she screamed at me and locked herself in the bedroom. The next morning she came out and said she wasn't taking care of me and wanted a divorce. She's a medical professional so my guess was that she called a friend in the field to check the computers to see if what I said was true. I tried talking to her but all she did was get meaner by the day...verbal, physical abuse. Finally, I filed for divorce and a year and a half later, I was was divorced 2 months short of 57. The courts gave her the house, the new car, the entire amount in savings although it had gone down some for the divorce, most of my retirement account and 65% of my pension. I worked until I was 63 and 7 months. I found out that she had been screwing 4 guys in our town while we were married including my oldest daughter's ex boyfriend who is 25 years younger than her. There was no starting over. She ruined my life and still goes around bragging about how she fucked me ( I have several former mutual friends that keep me informed). The saddest thing is my two daughters have sided with her and will not talk to me or return calls or texts. I'm 64 now, the cancer is in a holding pattern, and most days, I can barely get out of bed. Just not worth it anymore. Sad to go from having a great retirement planned out to having no retirement with barely enough money each month to get thru 3 weeks. At least that last week helps me keep my weight in check....yeah, not a very good joke. Like someone on here said, I envy you guys that were divorced in your 30s and even 40s...plenty of time to start over.
