Where's the men only train compartment so I can be safe and don't have to listen to any babies crying or women talking loudly?

If there were to be men only trains and women only trains then I think children should ride in the men only trains with their fathers.

Let them enforce gender norms at the bathrooms first. Women like to swamp mens bathrooms as soon as it suits them.

This is the wrong hill to die on, man. In Japan, they genuinely have pretty serious issues with sexual assault and women's trains are very necessary. It's most likely cultural, they have very morally questionable and eccentric views on sex over there. I absolutely hate that this happens, both for those poor women, and because it contributes to the false assumption that all men are sexually charged animals.

I hope in the future we can focus on legitimate men's rights issues, because posts like this only make us seem like we don't have any genuine grievances. I think a good start would be equality in prison sentencing, and moving away from the societal urge to coddle and protect women.

A lot of this has to do with the hyper-polite culture they have that also includes trying to keep to yourself. Sure you could grab their arm and yell but to suggest that they should just scream and cause a ruckus in public shows a gross misunderstanding of their culture.

You don't know how other cultures act and the way that Japanese people conduct themselves creates the perfect people for both not being willing to get involved in someone else's business and where the victim that already feels embarrassed also needs to break a bunch of cultural norms if they want to force it to stop.

Trains have this feature of effectively locking you into a confined space with other people and there are only so many ways to deal with that.

This is a very American take on how another country should solve their problems, i don't really know much about Mexico but it's likely that public molestation was rampant.

In some case it may be paranoid but in others like Japan it may be somewhat justified. The problem is not as bad as it used to be, but it has been a big problem there. I had a Japanese friend who was followed from the train to her house and raped there. It would be understandable to develop some paranoia.

In some places in India you take your life in your hands using public transport as a woman. In some places in Japan and Korea there is a culture of upskirt photos and groping in public transport. On Escalators in some of these places there are even mirrors on the handrails to show you what someone behind you is doing, so you can spot someone trying to take upskirt photos.

Its not insulting, its a direct response to whats taking place in those societies.

I am certain that women in India and Japan for example would much prefer if there was ZERO need for this type of protection.

PS. women are as bothered as men by shrieking children. Its not as if I as a woman on a flight am not bothered when someone brings a baby along. I for one would LOVE to have child free compartments on public transport as well. Wanting to avoid horrible shrieks and wailing, is NOT a gendered thing.

If you want men only zones, I hear Afghanistan is organised like that.

I don't see a problem if it's to combat SA on the train due to crowding. But if they are going to do that, what about places where women routinely take advantage of men? Like at restrooms, bars, gyms? Are they going to put any effort into protecting men in those spaces?

Just chiming in that in Japan, particularly Tokyo, you are packed in like sardines (literally have "pushers" to get the doors closed). It is a known issue that there was and still is a huge issue with gropers and SA on those trains.

Segregated cars is a women's safety issue, not a man bashing thing.

It's the few pieces of garbage that make us all look bad.

In Japanese there is a word for people that commits SA inside trains, chikan. It is so prevalent that they were forced to set up women only carriages.

In the case of Mexico, it seems that SA in women only train carriages it's sometimes worse than in mixed ones.

That being said Japanese railways are a very poor example, its a huge, complex issue and this solution is dictated by necessity.

I have to admit, this time, I do not mind if there are women only trains especially in japan. Now hear me out. In japan trains our crowded, people are stacked right next to each other I hear it is worse than a package of sardines, but this has allowed a lot of assaults to happen, and even porn videos made of such sexual assaults (A friend has showed me a few, I admit this type really rubbed me the wrong way). But regardless. What they also have there are undercover cops especially females, who will arrest a men for anything, even a gentle graze of the arm (I heard this, not sure if true). But they are purposefully hunting down males. So hell give them their separate box, remove the cops and leave men alone anyway.

Overall, this thread is disappointing. Clear and obvious discrimination/segregation like this shouldn't be tolerated. If you want women to be safe, teach them self defense, don't teach them to more or less hide from the problem. An elbow to the throat, a foot to the groin would stop just about anyone.

Remember, even the Boy Scouts got forced to include girls for not much good reason, frankly, especially since the Girl Scouts afaik still are only girls only. If this transportation segregation is going to continue, regardless of culture, regardless of country, it should be done in a way that includes men only spaces too.

German trains do offer areas where noise and telephones are forbidden, this is the nearest we can get to a civilised form of locomotion.

Having travelled extensively on Indian Railways I can quite easily see why women cannot realistically compete for space, and are liable to unwelcome contact.

I always offer up my seat to a lady; it makes me feel rather superior.

I am constantly in Singapore, Hong Kong, and China, have lived in China for years, and have never seen a women-only section anywhere.

Again, because it would be fucking impossible to enforce, and it'd be a stupid waste of money, resources, and time.

Note: I can't speak for Japan at all, but I could see it maybe popping up there, but it'd be an anomaly, not a norm. Eastern cultures really don't tolerate feminist bullshit and virtue signaling nonsense, they're too goddamn busy with actual life.

When I still lived in Queens I used to get my butt touched by men on the subway every couple of weeks. It would be cool to not have to deal with that any more. It's not even a nice butt. While I agree separate men and women trains might be a good solution, I get the feeling that the real world implementation would end up being 20 women per cart while the men are crammed like sardines. A movable partition or otherwise adaptive system could maintain equality while ensuring safety as well. Like yeah, you shouldn't be getting groped, but if I have to suffer through contact with 4-6 strangers for 10 minutes, you should too.

Anything that’s women only or women and children only is insulting with the exception of sports. The only time “women only” makes sense is when we’re talking about womens basketball or womens football etc. But if we talking about women only areas in the gym, women only public transportation, then yes it’s definitely insulting and it just says one thing. The people that need to address the situations just talk a cowards way out while taking a fat paycheque home. Back when I was a student, I had to use public transport. It came to a point where I got frustrated with how priorities were given to women by society. Even with gym spaces.

Women only areas? If that is a concern, then why do women wear leggings or shorts the wedge up their butts? Why show up at the gym basically half naked? Right now it would make sense to have mens only spaces since women these days like to film everything in the gym without regards to other peoples privacy like the men who just want to workout without being called a creep just for getting a glimpse of a woman who’s in visible sight. One of my nephews one time sort of had an embarrassing sort of moment where he was bursting and wet his pants. When I asked him why didn’t he go to the toilet he said that the one he could use was occupied and the other one was for women only which he couldn’t go to. I told him next time don’t worry about it and if he really needs to go to just use the womens only toilet if it’s empty rather than hold on to it later have an embarrassing moment.

The women only cars were to address the rampant sexual harassment and sexual assault on those trains specifically. It's not all men are bad, it was a last ditch effort to keep the women safe thst overall the overall population agreed with doing.

Having been groped on a public bus trying to get to school, it is terrifying and we have far lower cases then they were having.

Nobody is saying make segregation for men and women like pre civil rights Era for all. It was just trying to keep women safe in those specific situations. I don't see how that is bad, would you prefer women to be degraded and assaulted?

It's quite common in India, it's was maily for women who women safety reason and encourage them to go to work ,SA is real and worse and there are cultural differences most of the women compartments have red colour seats for women who are in menstruation ,but sometimes it doesn't make sense and poorly managed for eg at 8am peak hour there is a half of train allocated for women and the other half was general, so women half was only 60% full but the general compartments where 300% full ,it was indeed poorly managed

Have you ever actually BEEN on a train in Japan? Especially during rush hour? I have, just a few months ago. They have employees (oshiya) whose job it is to literally SHOVE people into the already packed cars.

Some pervert (chikan) is shoving his hand into your underwear or rubbing his dick on your leg? Too bad, there’s nowhere to go until the next stop AND HE KNOWS THAT. There’s also the likelihood you won’t even be able to identify who it is in the crush of people. Even if you do manage to, it’s most likely the cops will do nothing and humiliate you in the process.

Attempting to compare your mild inconvenience of hearing some noise (that can be easily remedied with headphones) with the sexual assault of women and children is gross and shameful.

Ultimately though, I understand the utility of it. I don't really begrudge women for wanting it. So long as men still have access to regular train compartments we aren't particulararly put out by it, and it does make women safer.
