The entire concept of value here applies to the dating market. To be “high-value” is to make a good partner, and to effectively define this, we need to take into account everything it means to be a human trying to find a mate. We are mammals with emotions manipulating us to fuck and base instincts for attractiveness which control how much we want to do that, but we also have the capacity for higher reasoning and the pursuit of long-term happiness and a life worth living. The “new” and “old” brain response both need to matter and factor into dating “value.” Whether women want to fuck you and whether you have traits and capabilities which positively contribute to their lives long-term both matter. The ideal partner is a “catch” both for the new, “thinking” brain and the old, “feeling” brain.

There are a lot of factors that go into whether someone is a satisfying partner. You’re right in that it’s subjective, but the middle-brain attraction that you’re putting on a pedestal here is highly subjective, arguably much more so than “is this a good idea?”, higher-reasoning mating choices. Even if you’re approaching the dating pool as a highly conventionally attractive person, so much of it depends not only on pheromone combinations (from an evolutionary standpoint, is this person’s immune system different enough from mine that it would be a good idea to make babies?), but on classical conditioning (which benign mannerisms and personality nuances make you feel warm and fuzzy based on your individual experiences, and which ones make a person seem “off”?) and attachment patterns (your baseline strategy for approaching relationships, which is contingent both on the person in question and how you were raised). This is why even as an 8-9/10 you often run into people off, for example, blind dates or OLD who are great “on paper” and as objectively attractive as you are, but for whatever reason, one or both of you just doesn’t “feel it” in person. It just doesn’t “click.”

Insecure attachment is overrepresented in the dating pool, too, because people who tend to securely attach are more likely to find and stay in relationships. Disproportionate amounts of single women have anxious attachment, and disproportionate amounts of single men have dismissive-avoidant attachment. Anxious-attached women are developmentally arrested and feel the most “chemistry” when chasing down and treated like an afterthought by equally developmentally-arrested avoidant-attached men. TRP sees couples enter this cycle again and again, ignoring happily-married, power-balanced secure couples who aren’t in the dating pool to begin with because they don’t have to be, and takes the fact that avoidant-attached single guys who won’t settle down can find anxious-attached women to chase them as confirmation bias of their “value.” It’s not.

Value as a mate is entirely dependent on your key fitting the lock of whomever it is you’re approaching. There are a handful of attributes that are objectively attractive to almost everyone (height in men, healthy weight in women, other general indicators of mental and physical health), sure, but so much more of how people relate to each other is just projection and manifestations of unmet needs and existential angst. I don’t think you can really define it except on an individual level. Abusive and dismissive men have no value whatsoever to women who grew up with good, loving parents; believe they deserve to be treated with kindness; and have a middle-brain repulsion response to this behavior. You can make the argument that even of women who do fit with “bad boys” and are attracted to being dismissed and hurt, these relationships are low-value to them because they fit their middle-brain but not their reasoning-brain needs, while a high-value partner would fit both. In this case, it would probably be best for this person to remove themselves from the dating pool, refine this middle-brain response with mindfulness and therapy, and return once a healthy partner can meet all sets of needs.

The question of how much you are worth is entirely dependent on how much you value yourself. And because you can't do that, put yourself on a scale and weigh it, you have to rely on others to decide. Right there, if you were sensible, you would put aside the question of who you should rely on to decide, because it is all relative, and what this group perceive as high value might not be worth as much to another group of people. The more fundamental question to ask is, why do you do it? Why do you feel the need to get yourself to be validated by other people? Why would you give other people the authority to decide who and what you are? If you decided to trust someone's evaluation of you, aren't you the one giving them that authority? Thinking about it, wouldn't you realize the authority is still ultimately yours, and you still have to decide, yourself, whether you should trust their opinion?

So now, where does that put you?

When are you finally going to wake up, as a self-realized man?

man it’s fascinating the generalizations that are made on this sub, as well as the anecdotal evidence used. On top of that, y’all act like there’s an objective hierarchies of what’s good or desirable and not. There’s more nuance to these issues, and arguing that AWALT or AMALT amounts to some very questionnable conclusions. In practice, as far as I’ve seen/experience living in NY, France, the UK, and the Midwest, fuckboys get easy sex and are easy to have sex with, so they’re kind medium value, low effort. A loyal, good looking, intelligent etc guy is high value. A guy who spends his time analyzing and dissecting how to lure women he normally couldn’t get into having sex with him or get into a LTR is pretty low value (if she knows this) because it’s a façade. There’s a difference between [ caring about your appearance and cultivating your hobbies and interests ] and [ engineering every facet of your behavior and appearance to best convince someone you’re something else ] in my opinion.
