Most women don't jump from a 3 to a 6 with makeup.

Plenty of women don't even wear makeup every day.

When I met my wife she had no makeup on at all. She only wears it once a week maybe. My last ex only ever wore mascara and lipstick.

I think there's a lot of exaggeration on here about women and makeup.

I think one advantage women have over men in the dating sphere is that women are (generally) taught from a young age about the important of appearance. This is both good and bad. This is good in the sense that it teaches young women to dress well, take care of themselves, etc. On the other hand, this can also instill the idea that a woman's value is 100% dependent on her appearance, which I don't think is a good mindset to have both for the woman or for a society.

This might become less true for men ~30 or older. However, as a young man who sees a lot of young men and women, I definitely see more scraggly men who have a terrible facial hair situation, dress like shit, and with terrible skin than the equivalent women.

I think the biggest thing that doesn't resonate with me from your post is the idea of equality. You say that women have this temporary "stat boost" that men don't. Whether that's true or not I'm not entirely sure, but for the sake of this comment, I'll take it to be true. And because this inequality exists, you think that it should be equalized. But, why? I feel like being conventionally attractive as a man and as a woman are just two different playing fields. The average man can increase his attractiveness more by going to the gym than a woman can. An uglier man can compensate more with a good career than an uglier woman, so on and so forth. I feel like the "meta" is just different for both sexes, and that's not inherently something that should be changed.

It's funny how women are trying to convince us that makeup does not make a difference lol. Of course it does - new generation of make-up, cosmetic medicine, permanent make-up and other enhancers totally turned the tables. In the late 90s/early 00s majority of women in their 20s would be having very bland faces with maybe 1 in 5 standing out, now - some magic with eyebrows, haircuts and outfits will make more than half of them looking interesting.

Though I do not think this will work for men - if you want to look good you need to lose weight, get at least a bit fit, fix teeth, do matching haircut and buy good clothes. Add some skincare and you are good. This is a lot of work and cost(especially teeth) but this will most likely do it's job.

Makeup is not radically transforming your average person. What men need to normalize to compete is skincare. Even professional MUA say that you need a good canvas to work with. If your face is breaking out like crazy you're better off addressing the problem directly instead of slapping makeup on it. Hell the makeup can make it worse.

I think the biggest reason why men generally don’t and won’t utilize makeup, at least on a scale that women do, is because I think men understand that facial beauty is not the only/main way to sexually attract women. I think men have more diverse avenues for sexually attracting women, so they will reject avenues that they deem to be the least ideal, or likely to be socially acceptable. And in a sexist society with more rigid rules about how men should look, they’re even more likely to be scared of using makeup and seeming “gay.” It creates a vicious cycle.

Straight women know that beauty is the top priority that sexually attracts men, particularly facial beauty imo.

Sure. A little cover up of blemishes or for accents are fine and enhancing. I work in a field where it’s fine to be make up free. I grew up in a make up free household and myself and my daughter are 95% make up free. People are free to appear how they want, but they cannot control how others perceive them. For example, I’m not a fan of heavy make up and every time I see a woman heavily made up esp w lip injections, eye lashes etc I think what a waste of time and money and it doesn’t look good. A lot of us would think the same of a dude in a lot of make up

Actually, some money should be spent on hair styling and clothes to make you stand out, a guy who dresses blandly and who has a generic haircut is like a woman who doesn't wear makeup. It seems like he's given up on himself completely.

You guys seem to think make up is this magic fixer. Like suddenly you slap make up on and you go from a 1 to a 10. And make up doesn't even work this way. Hardly works this way.

You have to have good bone structure to begin with. Make up won't fix bones. It can cover minor blemishes and red spots. You can minimize some things like dark circles look more perky and refreshed. Also working with certain cameras and filters. And when the camera is off the lighting is off. You look absolutely ridiculous. A lot of the make up on social media is meant for just that ring lights. But in natural lighting you would look like a clown.

Make up isn't this magic cure all that we deceive men with. You usually are attractive to begin with make up just enhances those attractive features. It can cover blemishes sure. But it's not going to fix poor bone structure or a double chin.

Makeup is not the answer. Kevin Samuels had it right, a good skincare routine, cologne, and hygiene is sufficient. Coupled with a solid fashion sense, these habits are a decent enough foundation.

I don’t begrudge women their makeup. Most men however are better served, with permanent stat boosts such as lifting, and solid grooming routines.

Makeup is not the sorcery y’all think it is. 90% of women aren’t wearing transformation-level makeup on a day to day basis. Makeup accentuates features and beautifies, it does not turn someone into a different person.

The unfortunate thing about dating a human woman is sometimes she is done up for a special occasion (for your date) and sometimes it’s the morning and she has just woken up which means she is no longer done up for a special occasion. Its bizarre and childish to think women should exist in a permanent state of beautification, or just naturally look like a beauty queen.

First off, no woman is going from a 3-4 to a 6 just with makeup. That takes careful angles, lighting, editing, and filters that are only available in photos and video, not irl. Most women’s makeup is giving like maybe 0.5 extra points irl.

Could men benefit from using makeup? In dating app photos, I would say yes. Photos tend to wash people out and make them look worse than they really do, and makeup helps to counteract that. It’s also easy to hide the fact you’re wearing makeup in photos. However, I don’t foresee that most men would want to wear makeup on any sort of regular basis.

It doesnt work that way because surprise, men and women are very different in what theyre attracted to. Makeup on a man would communicate a level of insecurity that would far negativly outweigh any slight bonus in visual attractivness of the skin, which women care for less anyway. To put it very simplistic, men look for signs of youth and fertility, women look for indicators of strenght and protection. Why? Evolution.
