This is a sub that isn't a circle jerk where everyone agrees, and it's not riddled with sockpuppets and karma farmers. That's hard to find. That doesn't this sub is cool, kind, or respectful. It means that I'm confident the users I always disagree with are real people and not troll farms paid to spread misinformation.

I would think the other subs would be an echo chamber. Here I get to see people argue stuff from vastly different perspectives. Also women support some of my opinions. And when they don't, they do a good job of articulating what I am not seeing when I form my opinion.

I have nowhere else to process my grievances, or have explainations for why women in my real life treat me certain ways. because I cant go up to a girl that rejected me and figure out why, or talk meaningfully to my friends about dating. Most people irl do not care to talk about dating, especially if they have no problem with dating.

I’m probably not the type you’re describing in your post, I’m thinking the guys whose threads get massively downvoted and dogpiled are the ones with the most narrow and one-sided incel/redpill/blackpill views, especially the ones that express a lot of resentment towards women.

But I will be the first to admit that, in terms of the basic psychology of online engagement, they are here for the same exact reason as I am: they want to confront the ideological forces that they believe are responsible for their experience of a flawed world.

That’s not an admission that their views are equally valid, logically or factually - just because two sides exist doesn’t mean that one side can’t be right and the other wrong. It’s just an admission that the basic sense of gratification we get from arguing is exactly the same. The addiction to confrontation is the same. And maybe the futility is the same, the intellectual tilting-at-windmills is the same.

I feel like the 0 upvotes 200 comments thing goes back and forth between men and women. Like it depends on the day.

I also feel like progressive men don’t have a voice in gender politics. Most feminist spaces are exclusionary of male voices much more than literally hateful voices like TERFs and SWERFs, so anti-sexist men don’t really have a platform.

This is a space where I can challenge red pill without having to blindly agree with blatantly misandrist takes or stuff that amounts to hate speech (I have no personal desire to convince some teen virgin to kill himself when I might be able to talk him into understanding feminism, and understanding that radical feminists don’t represent all women).

Sex and manosphere talking points are a taboo topic, and pretty much anywhere they can be debated openly, especially across sex and gender lines, is almost inherently good.

The actual discussions. A bad day on PPD can beat a good day on most other subs where people just downvoted or get blocked/banned/deleted. I would much rather have someone cite a debunked study or cliche talking point than just see "-5" and my comment gets hidden.

Also, due to the way reddit notifications work it's easier to see new comments on PPD. On many subs downvoted comments get automatically hidden which means replies get hidden too. This is annoying, and PPD's culture of "0 upvotes 100 comments (that you can see without having to manually open" is actually a testament to our ability to either politely ignore or actually confront people who disagree with us.

A tropey argument we've all seen before is still better than just seeing your comment get downvoted to no response. Besides, there is the occasional insight, and everyone is entitled to "There are many like it but this one is mine." when it comes to the tropes.

It is one of the few gender issue/political subs I've seen with somewhat of a real balance.

I’ve been studying and discussing gender issues since before the red pill was ever a thing. I read and learned a lot about the psychology of what creates rapport and builds attraction and have benefited from it. I no longer have problems dating and am in a great relationship.

I come here to share and continue to discuss issues related to gender dynamics. I don’t come here to get upvotes. In fact, I realize facts related to issues like hypergamy, gynocentrism and feminism will often get downvoted. Still, I think there are some, even if a minority who like to hear such facts.

The only posts I see with zero up votes and many comments tend to be from women. If a man claims how upset he is that post is normally upvoted.

Blame women for the problems of men and it is certain to be upvoted.

Interesting question and one that I've had myself many times. It's also interesting to read people's responses. Personally I feel like many (not all) PPD women do not take what men say seriously and many do not seem to read what we write before responding to it. That being said I feel like there's a sub-within-a-sub where men read and react to each other in a more intentional manner than that seen between men and women. So, even if a thread I find appealing is zeroed out karma wise I can still get something out of it by seeing how men on both sides respond.

Yeah, that is kind of baked in at this point. Most men already assume the place will lean against them, so the hostility is not some surprise, it is expected. People still post anyway because the debate is the point, not the approval. It gets called out all the time and nothing really changes, so it just becomes part of the game. It is still worth it for the back and forth and seeing how different people frame things, even if the bias is obvious.

I found out about this subreddit while I was searching for some insights (really, just confirmation of my own observations) of dating struggles in the local dating pool.
In theory, discussing dating from a more eyes-open perspective could be interesting.
In practice, I think quite a few participants here—men and women, red- or blue-pilled—have deeper issues than tactical dating struggles.

This sub is peculiar in that it has Stalinist level censorship over specific topics that disproportionately offend women: blackpill, looks, race, n-count.

Yet I can guarantee you that if worded carefully I could make a provocative pro date-rape or pro-strangulation post for kinky sex that results in killing women and it would be approved.

You don't need to be a good sub to have traffic, just not worse than any others. This sub seems to be at the nexus of allowing the most pro free speech on the sexes that I'm aware of and that also has a cross section of both men and women.

It’s mostly incentive and engagement patterns. The people who feel misrepresented or pushed back on are always going to be more active, because they have something to argue against. If you broadly agree with the tone of a space, you don’t need to fight for your position—you read, maybe upvote, and move on.

So it’s not that one side is “more supported,” it’s that the side that feels friction shows up more and argues more, which makes the comment sections look skewed.
