To be honest, men are the ones to blame for that. If men didn’t give out likes on dating apps so indiscriminately and if they actually had higher standards, maybe women wouldn’t get so much attention and they wouldn’t have such overinflated egos (with regards to the dating world).

We don’t want equality in everything. We know equality is practically impossible in the majority of issues. We know communication and respect and understanding are necessary for relationships for people, not dictating how it should be. Life is a constant pendulum. If dudes want to date “on their level” and plan for 1/2, and pay 50-50 and take turns meeting up, by all means, only ask women out and take out women that are good with that.

There's this idea that our way of thinking is heavily dictated by sociopolitical norms or trends and there is the need for campaigns and public service announcements and efforts to modify these norms so that they are no longer problematic, racist, sexist, ableist etc.

Somehow all this shuts down when it comes to dating preferences, then they become untouchable, "well it's their preference, what are you gonna do?" "attraction isn't negotiable" as if all these exist in a vacuum and people's preferences can't change drastically due to exposure and socialization. Entitlement, discrimination, microaggressions are huge problems in other spheres according to these people but suddenly with dating it's "you want what you want."

Women hate hearing this and a lot of men probably do too. Additionally, the fact that this place bans racially charged conversation - race being an undeniable component of many discussions re: dating and preferences, limits just how productive and genuine dialogue can be.

Like what is it you want women to do? Do you want them to swipe more on guys they aren’t into? It STILL won’t be remotely even because there’s way more men on apps. And even if women did do that, it’s just a match. You still have to actually capture each other’s attention in messages enough to plan a date… and then the date would still need to go well…

So yeah I get it sucks but what is an actual tangible solution?

No, it’s not about equality otherwise they wouldn’t use the code word for special advantage. They had equality two generations ago.

The NBA subsidizes the WNBA, but if women watched women’s basketball as much as they watch the Kardashians… it would be as profitable as the NBA.

Probably because the inequality in the first one is based on a collective systemic bullying of the past several millennia involving treating women like animals or children, while the inequality in the second one is based on personal interactions. Men can choose not to date and live just fine and fulfilling lives. If men don't like the way a female partner treats them, they don't have to date that partner. If every partner treats him like that, he can just not date.

Women can't choose not to have an income. If she doesn't like the fact that the sports advertisers intentionally don't advertise her sport- therefore preventing her from getting viewership, or the fact that any employer chooses to overlook her for promotions, she can't just not have an income.

Likewise, the fix for the first is through laws. The fix for the second can't be through laws.
