And the underlying issue here is all that time that this guy invested with the kid is tossed to the side. This is one of the most intense and painful things about dating a single mom.

She wants you to be a "father figure" to her kids while she is questioning her own intentions with you. Any bonding and love that you give the child can and will be used against you in the end. And courts give 2 shits about any of your emotional investment.

Not only do you have to say goodbye to the mother in the end, you also have to say goodbye to the child. This is why that whole "man up" talk is complete bullshit.
