So I had a bit of a mindfuck realization the other day as I was remembering an experience I had with a male coworker. We worked in retail, I was 20 he was 19. He was a nice enough guy, a bit of a dick, but inoffensive and polite around me, he was a good worker so I would humor him with chit chat. He was one of those guys that are super into business, real estate, investing etc. so I would ask him questions about that stuff. We really only discussed stuff he was learning in business school and work (nothing personal).

At a certain point I found out he had flirted and asked out every girl that worked front end, except for me. The girls were all laughing about how he had given them all basically the same speech and they all turned him down. I laughed along but I felt weirdly left out, even though I wasn't into him. All of my female coworkers were the same age as me and in my opinion around the same attractiveness level as me. We were all hotties basically.

One evening when we were closing, a snowstorm began and I started to freak out about driving home in those conditions. I was visibly panicking and he came outside with me to help me clean off my car (he was very tall) and he generally calmed me down. It was one of those rare moments of kindness from a man where you can tell there was no self-serving underlying intention. He was genuinely nice in that moment.

I say all this to say, its not so much that men can't respect women, but men often aren't attracted to women they respect. Reflecting on this now 4 yrs removed, I think that's what it was. Its mindfuck to me, as I could never be attracted to a man I don't respect. Hope this makes sense, what do you guys think? This is def an indicator of a LVM, but also such a reflection on cultural misogyny and its insidious nature.
