me ex was classically beautiful but also shy and timid. she only has like 100 followers while i have around 500. just because you're attractive doesn't mean you're going to act like a stereotypical "insta thot" in social media.

Eh. I've dated women with follower counts in that range, and even women who were like 30 and still trying to play the game(including one "instagram model" with only 300 followers). At this point I consider it a red flag because a majority of them were narcissists with inflated egos who would do anything for likes.

This not to mention one female coworker who's main was in the tens of thousands of followers range due to a weird combination of "artistic" nudity and weird man hating poetry, but had a secondary account that was clearly to sell sex for quick cash.

My advice to men is that they absolutley shouldn't pursue any and all eGirls. Not in the bitter sour grapes way, but because you're probably going to get literally all the issues you think could happen and more: Narcissism, entitlement, sex complexes, the works. You don't want that shit, it isn't worth it, and not doing it is very nearly its own green flag.

It must be the hashtags that I'm following (travel, tech) but there are tons of influencers aged 20-40.

I also know a lot of basic bitches aged 20-30 with massive followings because they enjoy the validation and, if big enough, the occasional paid partnership. There's also tons of women on Tinder etc who are basically baiting for followers and they are not high schoolers.

Yes, I have met women who are hyperfocused on men's Instagram following. I even know women who are basically groupies for a few local Insta-famous guys. I've had women I'm dating outright express disappointment that I don't have a bigger Instagram presence, and even a few that found it "weird".

On the flip side, there's a big trend right now for the "offline boyfriend". Lots of memes saying stuff like "when he has 57 followers 😍😍😍". Having a neat, curated Instagram which is private, and in the 50-500 followers range seems to be interpreted as an indicator of maturity and levelheadedness.

Not having an Insta at all = not an option.

Certainly. Status is entirely dictated by people's perception of you, people who like you tend to follow you on Instagram. More followers is more people who profess to liking you.

It's not 100%accurate but it definitely helps.

My basically inactive 400 follower IG hasn't stopped me from getting with a couple girls in the low to mid 5 figure follower range. Their lifestyle was off-putting though, and I really appreciate women who don't make it the centerpiece of their life. Bonus points for private or never checking it.

These days any girl who is at all hot has at least a thousand or more instagram followers. Most 8's and above who know how to do make up and look good in a picture can muster 10k followers in a few months these days.

Again, you're competing for the attention of someone who lives off social media validation. That's not all women, that's a specific subset of women.

My partner has a private account and 22 followers. I too have a private account and 39 followers. Virtual attention is just not important to us. It's fleeting and inconsequential.

If you are worried you can't attract high schoolers because you don't have enough followers, getting more followers is not going to solve your problem.

As someone who works with high schoolers, they are starting to reject social media.

The problem is theres a ton of beautiful woman who have average amounts of instagram followers and private instagrams, you just wouldnt realize this because their accounts are private. Honestly alot of the girls I know who have large followings are pretty average irl and date average guys, and alot of them live or pretend to live the luxury lifestyle you see because they are pay to play. sure they will have one night stands with blue checks, alot of girls do, but the number of blue check and famous guys is so low that almost non of them have an actual shot of a relationship with them

It used to be a thing to be a BIG deal when I was younger (18-25) that if you had over 1k friends on Facebook you were a pretty big deal.

The first paragraph isn't true at all, and is far less true, I'd imagine, at your age. It all depends on her individual attitude towards social media. The extremely beautiful women I'm friends with don't update their Instagram accounts at all as it happens. And the others vary - I actually am thinking of one friend who also didn't post when I met her, then a work thing got her into doing social media and now she posts a lot because she's incorporating it into her career. One other simply doesn't have Instagram. The rest post at a semi regular pace, with a mixed batch of followers who often just reflect their social circles. The only people I actually know with 5 figure followers are either extremely social or have gained notoriety for their work. And it's mostly guys if I were to count.

But then again, my friends reflect who I attract and am attracted to. Maybe not the kind to play the social media game with any seriousness.

Yes. Companies selling instagram followers/likes are making a fortune. Some girls don't even care if the guy's followers are real, her friend she wants to brag about him won't notice anyway.

These days you aren't important but your presence is. Once I got immediately disqualified for not even having Instagram at all, she was literally like "so why you exist then" lol.

Luckily it's still not THAT common, however if a girl is into showing off (by wearing expensive dress, makeup etc.) then it's more than likely that she'll have strong social media presence and demand such a partner as well.

I think it has. A chick I went to high school with, who kinda looks like Addison Rae, has 35k+ instagram followers and it’s just because she’s a looker. All she posts are pictures of her at whatever tropical beach place she lives at. Lots of Chad-type guys in those pictures with her too

There are many people in this thread who are saying "I don't know anyone past high school who cares about that stuff" or "only if you want to attract 18 year olds" or similar.

In my experience, most women have asked to see my social media. They have at least asked for my facebook. It's a way to judge your social value and see that you're not a loser or weirdo.

It's very much a generational thing. You won't have 50 year old women asking for your Facebook or Instagram, but you will have most 25 year old women asking for it, because they grew up with the internet.

You can say "stop caring about social media likes" or "who cares about social media" all you want, but so many people below the age of 35 use it as a way to judge your worth and value, it's very difficult to ignore these days.

I'm 23, nearing 24. Don't have IG, never had any problem to date & have sex. It cultivates a mysterious vibe which can be very attractive to women, if you sell it well, of course.

That way, women can't see the type of guy you are by looking at your IG, so in order to know more about you, they have to see you IRL.

I think having IG is only beneficial IF you have an extremely good looking feed and profile & big followers base. Otherwise better to be out. All the effort into have a nice profile is better invested in other activities.

I think the majority of young attractive women today are actually not that interested in like counts. You’re having your perception skewed by public facing Insta thots. There are plenty of attractive women with private profiles and sub 1000 followers. Some of the hottest women I’ve seen are just regular girls I’ve met and have on IG who don’t give a shit about having thousands of thirsty guys perving on them. So my point is I think the average attractive woman who doesn’t give a shit about this for herself wouldn’t care about it in a guy too, if anything it’d be a turnoff as vanity is not a masculine trait - assuming they’re famous for their looks and nothing more.

Someone’s social media following doesn’t make me value them any more or less. That’s super weird imo. I’ve personally never heard of that happening.
