And once they turn down half the fares, I bet they'll complain about making less money than male drivers.

[–]Aimless-Nomad 245 points246 points247 points 4 years ago (27 children) | Copy Link

Of course

Remember that cafe that charged man tax lol

[–]Drougen 152 points153 points154 points 4 years ago (25 children) | Copy Link

I'm assuming they are already out of business and it's men's fault, right?

[–]Aimless-Nomad 84 points85 points86 points 4 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

On fucking point lol

[–]vhisic71 points 4 years ago [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

has endured a widespread backlash for its perceived reverse sexism

Nah it received backlash for its direct sexism. fuck i hate the way journalists write.

[–]tippensc 46 points47 points48 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I too disliked the way they said “reverse sexism”. It’s just flat out sexism. Nobody wants to come out and just say that women can be sexist towards men too. All around frustrating

[–]vhisic 22 points23 points24 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

yep, reverse sexism isnt even a thing, if it were it would be something like being overwhelming good to one sex... which is just regular sexism towards the other.

[–]lifeleecher 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Came here to say this too, but you guys beat me to it. It's typical journalism, unfortunately...

[–]jmcsquared 48 points49 points50 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Blatant sexism.

[–]OgreAllOver 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Why fight sexism with sexism. That's just silly.

[–]Abdoh_Ash 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Because why not. Sexism will always exist.

[–]OgreAllOver 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That sill change nothing in the world. It doesn't work to put fire out with fire.

[–]Responsible-Bet2295 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

lol, as if

[–]OgreAllOver 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Using sexism to fight sexism is childish and does nothing to help the movement of mens rights. Imagine a toxic feminist, but the male version. Both people don't do anything for their movement besides make it look bad.

[–]Captain20Cock 36 points37 points38 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

“It's been a wild journey to say the least. When we opened Handsome Her in 2017, we expected that perhaps we might make a stir through our brazen public discussions of structural inequality and oppression."

Is 'Brazen public discussions' a synonym for 'stupidity' to these people?

[–]tenchineuro 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

we expected that perhaps we might make a stir through our brazen public demonstration discussions of structural inequality

Fixed that for them.

[–]Angryasfk 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

of course its also vegan

[–]Angryasfk 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

And no doubt had “Vote Green” signs up too. I wonder if they would have charged Adam Bandt the 18% extra?

[–]Dilate_now 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

i dont know who adam bandt is

[–]Angryasfk 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The current leader of the Greens. When at university he was an extreme leftist who disparaged The Greens as an upper middle class bourgeois party that could perhaps be used. Has he changed his mind? Hmm

[–]Dilate_now 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Can men refuse to ride with women drivers?

[–]DiscardedHippy 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Unless it works differently in Australia, the name of the driver is shown with plenty of time to cancel...so yes, literally anyone can cancel a ride based on the gender of their driver.

[–]ScarAdvanced95627 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

They’re talking about an option that allows female and NB drivers to simply not show male would be passengers.

[–]tenchineuro 37 points38 points39 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Female Uber drivers already make less than male drivers. They choose the easy rides and don't work as many hours.

[–]CoolGuySauron 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

They already did here in Brazil. The best excuse they could make was because male drivers are more reckless (read "drive faster"). Therefore they finish rides more quickly.

[–]Responsible-Bet2295 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

that and the sexual assaults.

[–]Mystic_Submissive 18 points19 points20 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This comment is extremely underrated

[–]KidRetro_95 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Abso-fuckin-loutely, that's exactly what will happen, then they'll be bringing up the pay gap yet again even thought its been debunked so many times and shown that it's not because of sexism but because woman simply just don't work as much on average and take less paying jobs plus have kids and take time off. But facts are kyrptonite to woman.

[–]mogaman28 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Kryptonite to feminism. There's a lot of level headed persons that are actually female.

[–]KidRetro_95 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Notice how you said level headed females and not level headed feminists though? That's exactly my point. There's a difference between females and feminists, plus feminists can also be male, although they only label themselves with feminism to try and get laid

[–]Rad_Knight 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Another example on how many women's issues are caused by the priveleges they demand.

EDIT: added many.

Self-inflicted pay gap.

[–]InsanityStreaks 152 points153 points154 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yet it'll still be men and the patriarchy at fault

[–]Igereth 18 points19 points20 points 4 years ago (26 children) | Copy Link

It's only a pay gap if they get less money for the exact same amount and level of work.

[–]Fearless-File-3625 62 points63 points64 points 4 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

If only feminists knew.

[+]Igereth -21 points-20 points-19 points 4 years ago* (17 children) | Copy Link

I do

edit: I support men's rights btw. you make lots of good and valid points. This is my interpretation of feminism and lots of women are with me on this point.

[–]Igereth 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

I already said so. You dont believe me? Im not gonna try and convince you. I support men's rights that's it. Obviously people like you make it harder a bit like feminazis ruin it for feminists but that doesnt change the valid points you guys make.

[–]40moreyears 15 points16 points17 points 4 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Once you call yourself a feminist, your credibility with respect to men’s rights goes out the window. Feminism is about female superiority at male expense.

[–]Fearless-File-3625 12 points13 points14 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

idk, she is probably better than 90% of feminists.

[–]40moreyears 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Then she needs to rebrand herself an egalitarian.

[–]Fearless-File-3625 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I guess but she is not worth arguing over a label. There are far worse feminists that we should focus on.

I fucking hate feminists but at least she is smart enough to recognise pay gap is bs.

[–]Darkwolf90 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Playing word games on a subjective topic is unhelpful. Your committing the same irrational unconstructive bias "we" tend to dislike feminists for.

[+]Igereth -7 points-6 points-5 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

then you have obviously never read a scholarly book on feminism, just like feminazis. Funny how some of you are oh so similar to them.

[–]Particular_Tree2862 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I'm sorry you are getting such harsh replies. Thank you for coming here and trying to have an open mind even saying we make some good points. Some of us appreciate the support.

You're active on a man-hating sub. I would encounter your participation in this sub carefully.

It happens all the time: "feminists" derail this sub, rile some people up, report accounts, then go to some anti-male sub to whine. I put the links there so people could have a full (not necessarily negative) view of who they're engaging.

[–]Igereth0 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Im not active on it I left it long ago. And not every man is an incel.

[–]r2o_abile 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What she said was, paraphrased: "You're too stupid to see that all the bad feminists are not real feminists. Even if they are the politicians, run the feminist organizations, etc, they're not real feminists".

Another, another fake Scotsman.

[–]Yawndr 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They're reacting the same way that Republicans react to socialism: They take the part of the idea they don't like, they push it to the extreme and pretend that anyone wanting the original idea is advocating for the extreme version.

[–]StingRayFins 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Then they should stop spouting pay gap in corporate when it's illegal to pay less base on sex. And especially when any gap is due to life choices such as this one.

[–]Limp-Dee 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That weird when I send foot pics on onlyfans I don’t make as much as women do! Where’s the equality?!

[–]Igereth 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That is a job with supply and demand. And you dont have the same pictures others do to sell.

[–]r2o_abile 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Which is why there is no pay gap.

[–]Igereth -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I havent seen any valid studies which prove or disprove it

[–]r2o_abile 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Ah. Ideological. I understand. "Valid" would probably be subjective, though.

In the economics field, there seems to be an agreement that when they say "pay gap", they actually mean "earnings gap".

Have you come across that differentiation before?

EDIT: Link is the most relevant woman-focused (feminist) organization in Canada.

[–]Igereth 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, it is certainly not subjective. Validity, realiability and objectivity are the important factors to check how well a method measures what is wanted. Scientists need to be aware of them in order to manage and carry out a study.

No, I havent.

I think it is not done so simple. There are so many factors that are to be considered. Quantitative studies are one thing but qualitative are just as important. Are there biases involved? Are the results self-reported or did the participants not know what the study is about? What are the underlying social constructs that might influence people to unconsciously create a gap?

This is such a big topics. For anyone to really and truely argue against or for it's existance it would need many studies and on top of that meta studies.

[–]CawlinAlcarz 251 points252 points253 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I wonder when female doctors will be allowed to refuse to treat male patients, looks like in near future.

[–]312Michelle 19 points20 points21 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's fucked up. We can't let gender-based discrimination like that take the lives of men and boys, or the lives of people of either gender for that matter. This is 2022, this has got to stop.

[–]elebrin 18 points19 points20 points 4 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

As a male patient, I'm already able to pick the sex of my doctor.

My dentist, eye doctor (and the person who does the exam), and GP are all men. The oral surgeon I chose when I needed some work done was a man. Huh. Almost like I specifically chose men for those things. I have a female hygienist at the dentist's office though because that's not a job many men get into.

[–]StripedFalafel 39 points40 points41 points 4 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

That's not quite the analogy. What if your dental hygienist, physio etc could refuse to accept male patients? Would that be a good thing?

[–]elebrin -5 points-4 points-3 points 4 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

I think that you should be free to pick who you do business with from either side of the arrangement, and for any reasons you choose.

Of course that's not the way things work legally. Free association for businesses is a ship that sailed a long time ago.

[–]312Michelle 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

elebrin,

Gender-based discrimination and race-based discrimination, refusing to do business with someone or refusing to serve a client because on their gender, skin color, sexual orientation or gender identity, especially when it comes to medical care, is illegal and unacceptable. I can't believe you fucking defend this, especially considering how it would kill people to deny them medical care, firefighter or police services, employment, basic business and services, etc, because of fucking arbitrary characteristics that they can't control. Gender-based discrimination is always wrong, regardless of who does it, it's wrong when it's done to men, and it's wrong when it's done to women, it's wrong when it's done to whites and cishetero people, and it's wrong when it's done to POCs and LGBT people.

You're no better than those female uber-drivers. You're just as bigoted and discriminatory as they are and you're advocating denying business and services to people based on things they can't control. The problem is because you support that kind of discrimination based on arbitrary characteristics, it will come back to bite you in the ass someday, and it might even kill you if your life and health depend on those services you need. It has killed a lot of people based on their arbitrary characteristics and that's why we now have a constitution and laws against discrimination based on arbitrary characteristics. You can't deny service or help to someone or throw someone out of your store because they're a certain gender or skin color or sexual orientation or gender idenity (or any arbitrary characteristic people were born with and that they have no control over), it's as simple as that.

They're telling it like it is and you fucking know it:

Refusing to treat patients (especially based on things like gender, race etc) is fucked up and is definitely against the law and the constitution. You can't just refuse to treat patients or provide services to someone based on arbitrary characteristics that they can't control.

They'll put a first time offender saving thier families life in jail for the maximum time possible for "excessive force" yet will let serial offender after serial offender walk Scott free cause "mental issues" or just strait up give them bail.

Not to mention the entire justice system and media is setup to treat men like the devil and women like almighty fuckin gods. Yet men get bashed for wanting real equality....

Also I'm not biased because I experience being a man in Australia literally every day, and neither me nor my male friends have ever been treated 'poorly' or 'ignored' yet many of my female friends have.

That's how a guise works, and the sad truth is most groups do this when they collectively stick to an ideology that has very little factual reasoning behind it, think religions and their near complete lack for helping the needy as nearly all claim they should/do do. They run with the guise they are humble people, kind to others, god fearing and all that, but that isn't the way most of them act day to day, they act like everyone else. Except everyone else excepts it, religious people hide behind the guise of the religion.

Im just going to copy my comment from another post since it's always relevant when talking about Australia:

Quick reminder that an australian women is literally more likely to be struck by lightning than to be murdered.

100 + people hit by lightning

about 61 women killed in any given year

[+]velvetalocasia -17 points-16 points-15 points 4 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

Statistics isn’t your strong suit, is it?

For once you compare PEOPLE struck by lightning to WOMEN murdered. So in your logic no man gets ever struck by lightning?

A quick google search actually says, that men are much more likely to be struck by lightning, actually 4 to 5 times more likely then women.

https://www.cdc.gov/disasters/lightning/victimdata.html

https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/BF00690909

So let’s go with 100 people struck by lightning per year in Australia. Then only between 17 and 20 out of them would be women.

And then you go with 61 women murdered, which your link says was the 2016 number but was actually the lowest since 2010 and in 2017 75 women where murdered, which seems to be more on par with the usual number.

So actually women are 3 to 4 times more likely, to be murdered in Australia, then struck by lightning.

[–]EstablishmentKooky50 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I think, there's a slight chance that you might have missed the point by about a lightyear...

[–]wes67stg 19 points20 points21 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, violent crime tends to go down with time in western countries. Looking at the graph, it has a clear downward trend except for 2011. Maybe it has risen since then but i haven't bothered to check

No, in 2017 there was 61 women that were murdered. The 75 figure is the total amount of murders related to domestic violence, of which 43 were women. Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit, is it?

> The majority (70%) of victims of Murder were male (141 victims). Less than a third of Murder victims in 2017 were female (30% or 61 victims), this was the lowest number recorded since the beginning of the time series in 2010. (Table 7)

I indeed didn't take diminishing factors into account for lightning strikes, but neither did I for murders. If we take only murders not related to domestic violence, the figure goes down to (61-43=) 18 women murdered. Since the article is about Uber rides, if a female driver was murdered, it most likely wouldn't be in a case of domestic violence. The figure could probably be brought even further down if we looked at the sex of the perpetrator and other factors.

If still we keep the 18 women murdered figure, a women being murdered is still as likely or less than being hit by lightning, so my point still stands. But you probably already figured this out since statistics is your strong suit...

Yes, he was condescending and his numbers were off in the first comment, but all of that doesn't take away the original point that random women shouldn't be any more afraid of random men than they are of lightning.

I think you should agree with this.

[–]L0cked4fun -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not disagreeing with the content, just the answer for the down votes on the response to the generalization.

[–]wes67stg 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

If you're less likely to be murdered than being hit by lightning, it means that you're more likely to be hit by lightning than be murdered. It's the same thing. She was right that what i said was too general because i didn't want to write an essay but the point still stands

If you want to be condescending, at least make sure you're right. Of course if someone is condescending to me but doesn't at least make sure they know what they're talking about and make very obvious errors such as not reading properly the stats, im going to also be condescending

[–]L0cked4fun -3 points-2 points-1 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

"Didn't want to write an essay"

Fancy way of saying you wanted to present your data as a 5 to 1 ratio rather than 1 to 1.

[–]wes67stg 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I used 100 and 61 so 1.64:1 instead of 1:1 to 1.11:1 for 18 vs 17-20. And as i said, it's probably possible to lower the 18 figure even more, bringing the ratio closer to the original 1.64:1

And even then the 17-20 range (5:1 ratio between men and women) might not even be true since it uses data from the US and data from Australia but from the 90's. In the paper from the 90's , it showed that the gender gap reduced with time so it might be lower today. Also the article that I had linked said "5 to 10 deaths and more than 100 severe injuries are caused by lightning every year". Having the gender breakdown for deaths and injuries would probably give a range higher than 17-20 women hit by lightning, which would also bring the ratio closer to 1.64:1

And yes the first comment was a quick gotcha moment because thats how reddit works, I never said otherwise. The conclusion was still right

But why, you can just transform into a female or “non-binary” in an instant according to them. Just change the gender setting and boom you good.

[–]Sarin03 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Hi, trans person. You can't just change gender instantly.

Assuming that you aren't trans and just want to fake being one then you're in for hell. You'll have to immediately go to a psychologist, get a referral, spend a few years at a gender specialising psychologist, then you're allowed to start doing things like taking estrogen or testosterone and most gender affirming care. But most companies still wont see you as your chosen gender. To LEGALLY change your gender you need to go through a long and arduous process (Im not very familiar with it) that can take many, many years to complete.

Then you can officially request only female passengers.

[–]Hexys 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You can on most apps.

What is the process really like? Do they keep asking if you are the gender you claim you are over and over for years? Obviously wouldn’t take any hormones, would simply be on paper to gain more rights and advantages than men have in society. I know Laura Southern did it in Canada I believe as a joke and it wasn’t this big spectacle, but it was some time ago so maybe things have changed.

[–]Sarin03 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I thought you meant from the perspective of the driver.

The process is pretty much just ridiculously expensive therapy (not that it isn't expensive anyway). Its a lot less about finding out if you are trans (if you're going then you already know) and more about finding some link or cause.

I wouldn't recommend becoming trans to get more rights, you'll get some but you'll also get a lot of death threats, hate crimes, and the looming potential for the laws to change hanging over your head. Along with probably a lot of gender dysphoria, because then you'd basically be trans, what with the fact that you'd be socially a woman/man (whatever you're not).

Non-binary might be easier? If you just put yourself down as non-binary but never tell anyone its pretty difficult for anyone to tell you are/aren't enby.

But over all if you want more rights its best to just campaign for them, its worked in the past!

[–]Hexys 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hmm I see, well the goal would be to extract the rights of females as a male and that’s really it.

That’s totally fine people won’t do shit, they wouldn’t even know since it’s just on paper. I’m very mentally stable and secure in myself and the gender I was born in so not spooked of any gender dysphoria.

Being non-binary wouldn’t give me anything of value so that’s ruled out.

I simply just want to arm myself with the “im a woman bruh” when it’s convenient and beneficial while changing nothing else about myself. I don’t believe in democracy and going against the biggest corporations in the world is not a winning fight, I rather exploit weaknesses already there, achieving my goal easier and faster (also more realistic).

Thank you for the insight!

Nothing, discrimination against men has always been acceptable.

Has anything happened? Does it matter if something has/repeatedly has happened? Not so easier.

It doesn't make it acceptable to discriminate against men.

Female And Non-Binary Uber Drivers Will Now Be Able To Refuse Rides From Male Passengers In Australia

What if they identify as women?

What if the men are non-binary?

Is there some drug one can take to make this stuff make sense?

[–]p3ngwin 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

However, despite these findings, 83 per cent of women said they needed more flexibility to do this, and 88 per cent expressed there were barriers in the way, preventing them from starting a side job.

The research concluded that 70 per cent of women would like to see more female Uber drivers in the front seat.

Foley also said the new move hopes to establish more of an equal gender representation of those working under the app while encouraging more women and non-binary people to apply as drivers.

Foley said: “The Uber platform should reflect the diversity of the communities we operate in, including equitable gender representation among the driver-partner base.

"Women currently represent a small portion of driver-partners, but we hope, by supporting women and non-binary individuals in unlocking more earning opportunities, that this will increase over time.”

I don't understand, at no point does that "study" reveal what was stopping ANYONE from applying to be a driver, so what am i missing here, what "representation" was being held back in ANY way ?

At no point was "safety" mentioned in the study, so how is this new policy "solving" a problem that was never identified ??

[–]GnomeChompy 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Step 1: self identify as female/nonbinary

Step 2: sue when they inevitably say you arent allowed to ride

Step 3: profit!

Australia what the fuck just chill already

[–]Shadowdragon409 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This isn't a bad thing in principle. Being able to refuse a passenger if you're uncomfortable with them. The fact that its only for women to be used against men, is sexist as fuck.

[–]KidRetro_95 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Now imagine if male drivers were allowed to refuse rides from female passengers, woman would throw a fit and throw around the sexism card. Then if men bought up this right here they'd throw around the incel card.

Didn't some woman over here already start a female only uber service? Kind of pathetic that these idiots live in such constant fear of men and see them all as evil then bitch and complain that it's mens fault they can't find a partner 🤷‍♂️

When men there who use ubers, start picking and preferring male uber drivers, those women will have no right to call them misogynist and sexist. I can predict the double standard.

And needless to say that this is outrageous.

And a few years later, "Uber is sexist because female drivers make 50¢ for every dollar the men makes."

Millions of people will debunk it and reference this instance here.

Feminists all over the world will ignore it and run with the "Uber earning gap" and they'll say it every second they can all over again.

[–]EnthusiasmNo6062 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This idea is more than fine. Not really hurting anyone but themselves. It's like only taking orders with big tips on doordash. However the option should be available for male Uber drivers too. Maybe they don't want to pick up men either... Lol

[–]OctaviaPinfold 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

And what do they do if their male passengers start saying that they're nonbinary? Or do they define who they can refuse service to as male because what they mean by nonbinary in case of their drivers is female nonbinary and not male nonbinary; so they only want to cater to women's irrational fears, really? Remember, nonbinary is not trans, it's just an adjective both sexes can use if they don't (or don't want to) conform to gender norms. They don't even have to look a certain way.

Saying that is nice, but Australia has a rather fluid definition of women and failing to respect that could find them in jail.

[–]312Michelle 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My mother once said years ago that it's a good thing that women are refusing to pick up men and that they're thinking of their safety, especially the ones who have been assaulted by men in the past. And I was like, "You are aware that women assault men too right? And that men are not only the main perpetrators of homicide but also the primary victims of homicide and that men are far more likely to be assaulted by other men than women are likely to be assaulted by men, right?" But she said something stupid about how female on male assault/violence is super rare and women have it worse anyway. She's a bit more intelligent now, but she still say something stupid like that once in a while and when I try to show her data and studies, she think the data and studies are biased and that I'm just being a know-it-all. When she does that, I don't interact with her for a few days and give her time to think about what she said and what I showed her, that's the best way to get someone to change their mind about things. Anybody and everybody can be sexist regardless of their gender and women too are guilty of gender-based discrimination against the opposite sex. Jesus God and the Force help me, this is 2022, people should know better.

[–]regularcomments 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, less money for them. Any smart woman with the capability of thinking wouldn't care what their clients have between the legs.

[–]WomanMcWomanface 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

If I could choose my Uber driver I would never choose a woman or a non-binary person anyway. Well, I wouldn't really do this kind of choice because it feels unfair and biased and I would actually feel bad for them so I would actually choose them as often as male drivers, would just pick whichever driver was shown first in the app or whatever regardless of gender but in my heart of hearts I know/think a ride with a male driver will be safer, faster, higher probability of getting to the destination, less chance of getting lost and less awkward/tense so better in every way.

So thanks feminists, once again you save me from acting against my benefit due to a sense of fairness and at the detriment of women.

Female or non-binary drivers who are trying to make a buck driving will never use this option anyway. Only the once a week Uber driving lgbt activist who doesn't really need money but who wants to write about it in her/their blogpost tomorrow will do this and I would choose not to be in their car anyway if I could.

[–]Nathaniel66 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

this is just a lousy attempt at getting more drivers. in reality uber are losing their male drivers due to karens. uber is delusional if they think female drivers are the solution. Karen vs Karen is the most destructive combination possible.

[–]Rucolacola1 point 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Blatant and obvious sexism aside, how is uber going to implement them? Since now any1 gender is how they identify as. So if i identify as a female but born male, is the driver a transphobe for refusing to drive me?

[–]icemax666 -3 points-2 points-1 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yikes. In America - which used to be a good country - we had protection from this sort of thing. We have a legal provision that states that you can’t discriminate based on sex, race, religion, etc. Now, we technically still have this in place, but I say “had” because who knows anymore, honestly. Either way, Australia has already gone full fascist so this doesn’t really surprise me.

male passengers who seem sketchy

This sketchy clause seem to be absent from the article.

Why are people angry over this?

For the same reason people where mad over Pence rule few years ago.

Also should I be able to refuse rides to black people just because they are black ? I am sure little racist in you will agree with this.

[–]KarmaABxtch -5 points-4 points-3 points 4 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

This is about women being afraid to enter a car with a man, racism is a very different topic.

[–]Fearless-File-3625 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Same thing. I am afraid to enter a car with a black person.

[–]KarmaABxtch -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

That’s just internalised racism.

[–]Fearless-File-3625 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Wdym

My question is should I be able to refuse rides to black people just because they are black ?

[–]KarmaABxtch -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You can do that and no one can stop you.

[–]Fearless-File-3625 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What if everyone starts doing that ?

[–]elonsmusketer 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

and with your own logic this is internalized misandry

[–]KarmaABxtch -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

How?

[–]elonsmusketer 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

EXACTLY your same logic if being afraid of a group of people based on statistics of violence it should be acceptable to refuse black people uber because they commit more crimes according to statistics BUT YOU consider this internalized racism. now change word black people to men same logic.

[–]KarmaABxtch -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Well you can refuse anyone a ride or refuse to get in a car with someone, they can’t legally force you to ride with them. Anyone can attack anyone, but being a women it’s much more likely to be attacked by a man. I personally don’t mind being in a car with a man but many women are afraid, especially with all the horrible murders we hear about.

[–]elonsmusketer 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

thanks for dodging my response, and lets use your own logic once again women are more likely to be attacked by black men. dont bother responding since no natter what I say youll dodge it

[–]KarmaABxtch-1 point 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It doesn’t matter if women are more likely to be attacked by black men or white men, women are STILL more likely to be attacked by men, if they don’t feel safe riding with a man they don’t have to. If you don’t feel safe riding with a poc YOU don’t have to.

[–]elonsmusketer1 point 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

you called exactly that internalized racism what changed? why is it not internalized misandry?

[–]KarmaABxtch0 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It’s all about context. If you are afraid of the black person, who is not presenting any threat, because of their skin colour, that’s racist. If you are afraid of a man, who is not presenting any threat, just because he’s a man, that’s sexism. If you are a white person and your black driver is presenting a clear threat to you or is acting in a suspicious manner, then that’s not racism, as your fears are justified. If a women is in a car with a man and he is exhibiting clear, suspicious behaviour, then that is not sexism, that is being afraid of someone due to their actions.

[–]elonsmusketer2 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I honestly dont even wanna reply because of dumb shit you just wrote no shit but that doesnt matter in this situation when people can deny uber to someone because of his gender without even meeting the guy what if it was about skin or what if men were allowed to deny women rides because of her gender youd lose your shit

[–]Razorbladekandyfan 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

"99 percent of perps of sexual assualt are men" ONLY if you disregard made to penetrate. Then it becomes a VERY different picture. but of course you dont care about that.

[–]untalented_frog -5 points-4 points-3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The statistics are actually 86 percent of perpetrators being male, I got that wrong. But the point still stands that most sexual assault perpetrators are male. Even male VICTIMS are usually assaulted by other men. And though female on male sexual violence DOES FOR SURE HAPPEN, it definitely happens LESS FREQUENTLY than male on female or male on male. So women who find that a man is acting sketchy are correct to assume the worst to protect themselves. 1/6 women are sexually assaulted in their lifetime, mostly by men. This obviously makes us want to be especially careful around men, for the reasons I said before. Now, women arent going to use the new uber rule to discriminate against men. If they did, they would lose a LOT of money. Instead, they will use this rule to protect themselves if the male passenger is being sketchy, making suggestive jokes, touching her inappropriately, etc.

Also, one more thing I would like to point out is that the reason uber is installing this new rule is because rape cases have happened before. Female drivers HAVE been raped by male passengers on many occasions, and uber wants to prevent that from happening from installing this new rule.

[–]Net_Flux3 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The statistics are actually 86 percent of perpetrators being male, I got that wrong

I don't get it. Where do you pull these "facts" out of?

Even male VICTIMS are usually assaulted by other men

More drivel spouted and perpetuated by femcels who never actually interacted with men.

Here is an actual research paper from a proper peer-reviewed journal about sexual assault of males by females. From page 170

The total prevalence rate of completed incidents of nonconsensual sex (with men by women) across all aggressive strategies and sexual acts was 30.1%

Note that this was the rate for men as adults alone and it would be even higher if their experiences as minors was included.

Women "sexually assault" men far more than the other way around, so please stop trying to use that excuse. It becomes blatantly clear when you just go to a male strip club and see how vulgar the women are and how often they are kicked out compared to men from female strip clubs even though females are tolerated much more. If anything, men must be using that excuse to reject female/femcel uber drivers and passengers.

[–]fallensamurai77 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]oafsalot 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Sewblon 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The stated purpose of this is to help women and non-binary people open up more earning opportunities. Is there any reason to think that this will actually help with that? Where are these women and non-binary people who would be making money as uber drivers if they did not have to service male passengers? In fact, this is likely to make the pay gap worse by reducing the potential clients of female uber drivers. Also, is this legal? Do all the countries where Uber operates allow you to discriminate on the basis of sex with your customers and clients as a driver?

[–]vhisic 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thats the way its always supposed to have been, turn down a fair dont get the money from it. I think all drivers should have the right to refuse to drive someone thats how the gig economy is supposed to work.

You want the money, you take the fair, you take the risk associated with that trip. Just dont bitch you dont earn enough when you ignore 50% of your fairs.

If i turn down 50% of my work shifts id be broke too.

Uber is garbage. A friend of mine was kicked off of all Uber because some Uber eats delivery chick claimed he was violent. Violent while taking his bag of food apparently. What a load of shit. Pretty sure all this "reverse" discrimination is gonna have a negative effect on the mental health of the men of that country, provided they haven't been indoctrinated yet.

[–]DPRKprincess 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How is this even legal? This is total discrimination. Isn't the LGBT movement supposed to be an anti- discrimination community? What about trans men?
