Men and women are obviously not the same in all aspects. Clearly there are physical differences.

Perhaps it would be more interesting if there are specific aspects of equality you want to discuss where it's debated that men and women are equal? i.e. Equal in what way?

Why is it that when you talk about how men and women aren't equal, your first and only example is about one's physical and social ability to inflict pain on another? When we tell children we're all equal, we don't think about violence.

why is it that whenever another man is being attacked by a woman, literally nobody comes to his defense, but as soon as he decides to defend himself against another equal human being everyone loses their shit?

Because Rome wasn't built in a day, Timmy. We are telling our children that we're equal so that someday, humanity might start acting like it. People lose their shit when men attack women because women are considered weak.

Compare women to children. If a toddler attacks you, you're not supposed to start punching and kicking in retaliation. If you attack a toddler first, then you're considered an even bigger lunatic. Replace the toddler with a woman and half of society can't tell the difference.

When it comes to physical strength, literally nobody is saying that men and women are equal. Men are taller, heavier and have more muscle definition.

But once again, when we talk about equality, we aren't talking about violence. Equality is supposed to bring the opposite: peace.

And if you genuinely think that men and women are the same then you’re just factually wrong, because believe it or not, the average person isn’t even equal to one and other.

Also, if this is your disappointing attempt at sounding smart, you failed. Men and women are obviously not the same. Have you ever noticed that 'man' and 'woman' are not the same word? It's almost as if... they're not the same.

and no case is this more apparent than the dynamic between men and women.

I grew up in a small town where hunting was hugely popular so despite being fairly far left, I'm really into guns. Being into guns there are obviously a lot of conservatives but I generally just avoid talking politics and everybody gets along.

But in every sufficiently large group of gun enthusiasts, there will always be at least one dude that everybody hates, and it's the guy who always talks about self defense, who will go on at length about all the scenarios in which it's legal to shoot someone, who will tell you how he would always aim to kill and keep shooting till the intruder is dead, and will tell you all the other situations in which he should be morally, if not legally, justified in shooting someone and eventually it becomes clear that he doesn't really care about self defense, he really just wants an excuse to shoot someone.

The rhetoric is nearly identical to dudes who talk about when it's okay to hit women.

Today, on my Ted talk, being equal and wanting equal access is not the same thing.

Humans have variations, and although men are generally stronger, some women could be stronger than some men. Just like some men could be more caring and paternal, then some women might be maternal. Welcome to outliers.

However, what you can do should not restrict your employment options (if you are able to meet the job requirements), access to healthcare, and control over your own body or the ability to share your views and opinions.

We’re not equal, though outside of hardcore super ideologically driven feminists, people don’t believe this. The argument most times is about equal rights and opportunities, otherwise nobody thinks men and women are equal nor that they are the same.

Now, here is a problem i’m having with your argument (and many who actively feel the need to remind others that men and women aren’t equal), I always get the vibe that you’re one paragraph away from saying “men are better, deal with it” as every example given in such threads are for some reason about how a man is bigger and can overpower women (for some reason it’s always “a man could beat up a woman, but doesn’t, we know better, you’re welcome for that btw”). This post isn’t about appreciating the differences, loving masculinity and femininity as complimentary forces, it’s about trying to imply that men are better. We’re not. We may not be equal in terms of ability, though both genders have their strengths and weaknesses and it’s important for both to be seen as complimentary as more often than not, that’s what leads to the most fulfillment.

Mem aren't equal either. If a man is weaker and smaller than you, does that mean he should have less rights? Not all men are bigger and stronger than all women. If a woman is 5'11 and 200 lbs does that make her "better" than a 5'2 man who weighs 110?

All rights are made-up constructs. Equality is a made-up construct. Property ownership is a made-up construct. All people, male and female, benefit from constructs that really don't mean anything outside of human brains.

To keep things brief, a functional society is basically a bunch of people collectively making shit up and abiding by it because the alternative is terrifying. See Thomas Hobbes.

Why is physical violence even brought up anymore? Men have ignored and failed to protect women from other men for at least the past decade if not longer. In both cases if someone regardless of gender is violent just call the cops! Geez 🙄 The cops are the solution to this so stop beating a dead horse.

Also when equality is brought up it’s referring to the rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We all know that everyone has different strengths and weaknesses and those skills aren’t just based on gender. Regardless most nations are nations of free will and do not encourage or allow slavery, which seems to be what you’re hinting at. The idea of forcing one group to be subservient to another is disgusting and needs to stay in the past.

Evolution doesn't do equal. Of course.

But human intelligence has to try to make sense of certain things, and it can do equal in some ways. We can decide, for example, that human lives have equal moral worth in some fundamental sense.

As for male and female physical confrontation, humans have to make rules and ideals to make for better lives. You will have to generalize to do that. This means there will be some arbitrary-like lines drawn. But it is necessary.

Men and women should be equal in terms of value (ie, societies where women’s testimony is worth half a man’s/where it is legal to pay women less are wrong). But obviously there are differences in terms of our abilities (in general) and to some extent roles in society. And it can be detrimental to both genders to pretend we are capable of doing everything that the other can.

If someone is attacking you, you use appropriate force to defend yourself and end the attack either by escape or control.

If you're a man being attacked by a woman, defend yourself using appropriate force and end the attack either by gaining control of her or escaping her.

The reason so many men are looked down on is that they weren't in real danger and they just cold cocked a bitch. And yes, absolutely push comes to shove, cold cock a bitch all day. But there are options between just getting flayed alive by a woman and cold cocking her.

But by the same token, if a woman is genuinely attacking a man, I'm not saying a lil shove or smack that happens once in a clear moment of anger, but a real attack, she should assume she's gonna get sucker punched and beat. She should not think a man is gonna stand there and take that laying down.

Just like a woman who gets smacked by a man or shoved in a moment of anger shouldn't just start stabbing him or something crazy. She should leave because it probably won't escalate if she doesn't escalate it. But, if a man's wailing on you, then yeah, shoot the motherfucker.

The problem here is that people think violence is 0-60 and there's no like 10 in there or 20 or off ramp.

I do not know the details of law in US, but in my country if you are practicing martial arts/boxing or you have disproportionate physical strength - your assault might be considered as assault using weapon. No matter if you attack man or woman, and this means that instead of 6 months you may spend up to 10 years in prison.

Equal doesn't mean the same at all. Even mathematically speaking, 3/3 and 5/5 are equal, however they are not the same. A copy of you with brown hair would be equal to a copy of you with blonde hair, even though you're not the same, as there's no relevant difference that means you shouldn't be equal and one of you is worth more or less. Do you think that how men and women are treated by others when slapping people is a relevant difference that makes one worth more (even though it's only an external attitude difference and nothing inherent), who is worth more and why? (Also, if Dwayne did that I think most would rightly say "that was too much, he should've picked on someone his own size").

The worst thing to come out of queer theory was the rejection of such basic ideas as “men and women are different.” When people are told repeatedly by powerful institutions that such basic ideas are factually and morally wrong, they’re more likely to be skeptical of anything else those institutions say.

That’s how communities like this end up thriving, because they’re willing to say the thing that everyone knows but aren’t alllowed to say.

And that’s also how they scoop up edgy 16 year olds who think they’re ahead of the game.

Equality is a goal, not the status quo. We repeat it to get to that goal and challenge inequality. That goal for equality sometimes needs to overcome evolutionary instincts and fails. Raising the question of if equality is even able to be achieved. I don't think so, but as nobody knows for sure, part of us keep trying while others keep following their "instincts" which result in unequal outcomes.
