Idk man I read comic books and play video games. I don’t really consume any sexual media.

I think your perception of this comes from the fact that women and girls tend to like media that portrays social scenarios and situations. Sex kind of comes with that territory. Like euphoria for example. More popular with women. Features sex and relationships prominently. It kind of just comes with the territory.

Now I think you’re also forgetting that something like 90% of men watch porn regularly. Seems like more men consume sexual media than women.

JFC. You’re looking at a gossip subreddit, reality dating shows, and pop music, then concluding women only care about sex. That’s like looking at MMA, porn, and Call of Duty and concluding men only care about fighting and shooting people. It’s a ridiculous generalization.

One of the most popular shows among women is Grey’s Anatomy. By your logic, women must be obsessed with surgery too.

People talk about relationships because relationships are a huge part of most people’s lives. That doesn’t make them sex-obsessed.

And using a celebrity gossip subreddit as evidence for what all women care about makes about as much sense as using a gaming subreddit to explain all men.

Not all of us are into that stuff. Some of us just want one normal TV show we can watch with our elderly parents in the room that doesn't have a graphic sexual or violent scene. We also listen to genres of music that aren't known for degrading women, even if it means we mostly listen to "oldies."

There are entire BookTok accounts devoted to promoting "low to no-spice" romance novels for those of us who want a book with an actual story and not just smut. It's a fun game of, am I just "outgrowing" pop culture in middle age (mid-30s), have I become my mother, or am I just a prude?

All of HBO series are extremely sexual, could say the same about Game of Thrones or any other series. Love island is just a trash reality show

Cuz people enjoy sex and relationships and its a fantasy. That doesn't mean women care most about sex. I don't really read smut or romance. But the driving force behind that media is that its a lot more mental and focused on the sexual dynamic between two people. Whereas for men its a lot more just about the sex and they do not give a flying fuck if the man and women have chemistry as long as the porn they are doing makes him cum.

Men definitely are sex first connection later

And women are a clot more connection first, sex later

But that doesn't mean for men that connection never matters. Its just what follows sex.

For women sex still matters and we love it. Its just sexual tension and chemistry are a lot more important to us, because the sex that follows will be much better with some form of connection (doesn't have to be love, but a specific structure or dynamic between the two people)

Also, women stereotypically are intereated in interpersonal relationships, but it does not mean that it is automatically sexual. You can have non-sexual relationships or talk about relationship aspects that aren't sex. It is kinda telling about you if you immediatelly see sex when there is a talk about a relationship.

Women on average are more interested in interpersonal relationships. For the longest time they also weren't allowed to participate in male dominated interests (to a point they still arent welcome). Women tend to also be more introspective. The inner thinking of people is more interesting. Men on average are interested in the outside world and technicalities than their inner world. Which can be an issue when it comes to communication.

A lot of it also comes down to gender roles.

Girls and women tend to be more interested in interpersonal dynamics than boys and men, on average. Not all nor always applies to either side of this coin.

Anyway, sexual relationships are part of that, but quite frankly not the focus in my experience. For example women are also way more interested in books and media about friendship and non-sexual interpersonal dynamics than men are.

I never consume sexual media. I threw my TV out of the door 20 years ago. I dont watch series, realitytv or movies, no streaming and I don't read smut or whatever its called or twilight crap etc. Nothing.

I don’t consume euphoria and love island, but I’m not exactly innocent as I do love my sexual themes in music and I do love sexually as expression/art. I also think it works really well with humor

But that being said, the short answer is because it is intimate, personal and fun. Like if we wanna talk about the ‘main’ mainstream topics, everyone talks about sex a ton - even straight men, but if the alternative is hustle culture, cars, money, etc - that shit bores me to oblivion.

I also think it is worth mentioning, it isn’t necessarily true that this is all women and gay men talk about. I’ve only gotten into more insightful philosophical/political/sociological convos with women and members of the lgbtq+ community, and humor in itself is just flat out easier.

I also think there is an aspect of comfort in sexuality vs sexuality as a means to an end (getting off being the end) - I think more women, gay men, And members of the lgbtq+ community view it in comfort and joy and most straight men see getting off as the primary focus

I haven't really met any women who watch love island or euphoria, so I can't say for sure on those ones. I certainly enjoy other romantic media though.

I would guess that women enjoy a blend of romance and sex in media, and that men enjoy non-romantic sexual media. for example, women might watch a show that's simultaneously romantic and sexual (like love island), whereas men might just look at pornography instead of getting invested in fictional characters. I think men tend to compartmentalize sex a bit more.

another factor is that women are sexualized and sexually desired from a young age, and girls experience puberty a few years earlier than boys do. sex appeal is integral to a woman's identity and is one way that they can become powerful (as opposed to men who become powerful in order to have sex). so a lot of female-targeted music that is focused on being sexy etc.

I would say that both men and women enjoy non-sexual media too though.

What do you mean? Very little media directed at women is inherently sexual in nature- other than smut, you would have to be intentionally sexualizing media on your own from your own perspective for it to be sexual media in anyway.
