Why I’m asking? I lost virginity super late (32) and that only happened when I started making six figures. Question for women (and men?) who are in favour of the social expectation of men paying for dates but against the social expectation of women being low count (and judged + considered unattractive if they aren't):

How does this make sense? How is it not hypocritical?

The reason I'm bringing this up is because the arguments posited in recent threads to back up the social expectation of men paying for dates, in my opinion, can be used to justify any one-sides gendered expectation:

- "If he pays it shows attractive qualities like provider mindset and generosity"

- "Men and women are just different"

- "Even if you don't like it, the reality is enough women expect the man to pay and enough men do it"

- "If he pays I can be sure he is invested and likes me"

- "If you don't like it, just date somebody else who doesn't expect you to pay"

- "It's tradition, why change it? You're just mad cause you're poor"

It's not even that I necessarily disagree with these points. But with a modicum of creativity all of them can be slightly rephrased to defend men's preference for low n count women. So I am asking what is the qualititative difference? Why are you allowed to dodge your part of the traditional asymmetric gendered social contract of hereosexual dating while men have to fulfill theirs?

A common criticism in n count threads is "high n men wanting low n women" but when men make threads complaining about the sets of expectations that women have for men, the replies are always just "then just dont date those women lol." That thread in particular was very weird, it had both men and women defending women having hypocritical expectations as "preferences" but you see a complete 180 of a reaction when it comes to men having hypocritical preferences. its always "inc*l" misogynistic, or insecure, etc, etc.

Going further into this, and im gonna go a bit off topic but it still relates, whenever threads like these show up "should women care about the rise of male loneliness?" the replies by women are generally always "No lol. As I'm getting older I'm becoming mildly curious about sex and relationships but I'm not interested enough to pursue it actively. And I'm not hot enough for women to pursue me so in mid 30s I'm still a total virgin. Even if I say fuck it and approach women I happen to be attracted to dominant women only (1% of women) so there's really no point in this when I don't like women who have to be approached in the first place.

I see casual sex as like any other “vice”, like drinking: Everyone has their own idea of how much is “too much” to where they think you’re too irresponsible to be compatible.

I think it’s normal to want someone who generally has the same attitude and habits around vices as you do. But nobody is going around on dates like “so how often did you use to drink in college? How often did you have too much? Or had to throw up?” Like that’s a strange thing to fixate on. If someone’s an “irresponsible” person, there will definitely be signs. So why would you think so much specifically about how many drinks someone might’ve had over their life, if the issue weren’t actually about something you’re struggling with about yourself and your relationship to alcohol?
