I think it's 'reasonable' in the sense that it would protect her from unnecessary exposure to harm and bad situations.

But if she wants a romantic relationship with a man it's going to be hard to make herself vulnerable enough to fully enjoy it if she has internalised that message fully, in the same way that AWALT prevents men from getting the maximum satisfaction from relationships that I believe can only be reached by leaving yourself exposed to harm and pain to some degree.

Having that thought has actually done more harm for me living in fear than good.. I thought it kept me safe but it also kept me in anxiety and paranoid! ( let me add no im not a famanazi i just have been raped multiple times and molested as a child and any male that i was around when i was younger was diagusting and abusive to me) now it has done me harm but, big BUT, when i actually have met men even little things like holding the door or saying hello without attacking me or just being kind without doing something bad or wanting something from me makes me feel so good.. Makes me happy because it shows me that not all men r out to get me.. So ya it is hard living with that mantra but the ones who showed me kindness i have more apprieciation for for even the things that other people think are little mean the world to me.. No. Not because its not theoretically true that men can rape women, but because it doesn't really address the issue of why a large portion of these incidents happen. It's not that men are rapists in my experience so much as a lot of women are really bad at reading social situations and some of the time men are involved and some of the time those men sre rapists. My sister and her friends are party girl types who like to get drunk in foreign countries and post it on social media and they exhibit an absurd lack of caution when dealing with unfamiliar places and strangers even when alcohol isn't present.

One must exercise a certain amount of caution in general -- every single person you meet could potentially murder you. But in order to actually enjoy our lives, we have to take risks and assign a base amount of trust in others. The first time you went to a friend's house, you technically didn't know if they were going to be another Jeffrey Dahmer, but you did it anyways. Yet we still lock our doors and look over our shoulders while walking at night.

There is a catch, however: if you substituted certain demographics that are less politically correct to fear, would you come up with the same answer? Rarely do I find someone who is consistent in this regard, rather they start blathering mental gymnastics about "privilege" and other red herrings to excuse their hypocrisy.

Its something to consider, but not to keep at the forefront of your thoughts.

If you keep repeating it over and over again, it’s not as passive as you’re making it out to be. Someone who repeats something over and over again either believes it, or wants to believe it, and any woman who keeps this in mind during any interactions with men will surely expect that someone will try to rape her.

If that doesn’t sound neurotic, then I don’t know what does.

Taking precautionary steps is always reasonable, my only concern would be that having this mantra could have negative, unintended consequences for her and the men around her. I assume any unknown man approaching me with his hands in his pockets to be a threat and I’m mentally preparing myself for the worst, but I don’t actually literally believe every man with his hands in his pockets is a threat, just that having your hands in your pockets may suggest he has a weapon of some sort he plans to use.

I see the two examples as being no different

I'm gunna be honest here, if there were no consequences to me, I would rape. I dont do it purely because it is illegal and I dont want to risk going to prison.

I think there are a lot of men like me. Very very few would ever admit to having these feelings openly.

If I had to guess the statistics would look something like this:

1-5% of men are actual rapists, and not the feminazi interpretation of "rape", but actual rape that almost no one would deny is rape.

20-30% of men have participated in predatory or otherwise "grey areas" of consent.

20-30% either fantasize about actually doing it, and/or would do it in the right context, ie purge scenario or they "knew for 100% certain they would get away with it".

This of course is merely based on my own experiences and conversations I've had with some guys so take it with a grain of salt.

In my opinion, yes, women should be extremely cautious around men, and it is not in my interest to make that statement. You likely know a rapist in real life, if you are even vaguely attractive you almost certainly know a man who would rape you under the right circumstances, and often times they look and act exact opposite of what you would expect. It truly would be in a womans best interest to assume any man is capable of it. I agree with the concept of "schrodinger's rapist" (but I also use the same logic broadly in all facets of life).

In philosophy that thinking is valid but not sound. It is valid that (nearly) every man is a potential rapist because they have the physical capacity to rape, but then so does every woman. (Nearly) every human being has the capacity to rape, murder, torture, enslave, etc.

So in the real world, that kind of thinking isn't very practical. This supposed woman having a very selective and inconsistent application of this very narrow logic is likely doing it out of prejudice, personal grievance, or paranoia. None are good foundations for a worldview.

Lets say there is $50,000 sitting inside a cage. However, there are also 100 snakes in the cage. If only 70 of those snakes are poisonous would you still take the risk to go into the cage and try to grab the money?

What about if only 30 of the snakes are poisonous?

To me, its not about the fact that all women are like that or all men are like that, its the risk of all people COULD be like that.

To me it doesn't matter, I would not go into the cage to try to grab the $50,000 and risk the rest of my life regardless of how many snakes are poisonous.

So I think feminism especially in this era it seems really fucking sucks with their wording. This probably is because it really can devalue their movement at times. But you have to understand that these movements are a reaction to some injustice. Due to this emotional reaction are just a natural occurrence because it just consequences of the movement. It is an emotional topic, and due to this reason they can get toxic emotions mixed in and express them.

So in this case it’s a toxic phrase, but don’t take it literally. Just consider that the majority of rape cases are perpetuated by men. This does not mean that all men are rapists, because again that is the toxic emotional reaction of certain emotions boiling up after a while.

You can do it if you want. You can also live with a deep distrust of all people for all sorts of reasons, not just the threat of rape. I think that trust is a vital part of what makes society work though, even though lots of people do bad things to each other all the time. So you might have a smaller chance of getting raped if you behave that way, but there would probably be some negative social consequences that come with it. For example people tend to trust people who do trust others less than more trusting people, but more trusting people sometimes get taken advantage of more often, so everything is a trade off. It is really up to you which way you prefer to live your life.

Most women I know myself included don’t say to ourselves all men are rapists. However we know that we can’t determine which men are rapists and which ones aren’t just by looking at them and it’s important to keep yourself safe. This doesn’t mean avoiding men and situations with new men but it means being aware of the potential danger while getting to know people. We also know that most men don’t rape but the ones that do rape often and they are a real danger to us.

Let me answer with some questions what is the difference between:

"Having capacity to harm" and "Have done harm".
"Avoiding the capacity to harm" and "Avoiding all possible harm".
"What one girl keeps repeating as a mantra" and "What others (or even oneself) perceive as her belief/opition".

You see. You should always have the closest representation of reality in mind, in plans and in communicating. Otherwise you end up as a extremist and/or ideologue. One person who believe in absolutes, or acts/talks like it does. Which may lead to harmful interaction with reality, be for those who interact with you, be for yourself.

That is why I have a problem with AWALT's name. It does not reflect reality. AF/BB on the other hand reflect majority (which is correct). Mantras and equivalent repetition of ideas without complete representation of reality is harmful and may lead to conflict and problems in dealing with reality.

Feminists, and this girl, can say without a problem that "most man can become rapists", "It is better to be safe and not trust a man" and that "by avoiding men I am avoid most of the chances of being raped", but to say and keep this mantra: "Men are rapists". Is a harmful way to express oneself, can lead to self deception, makes you an extremist/ideologue, can hinder one's deals with reality.

Thus. Should be avoided. Deal with reality. Don't hide behind a religious like behavior. It is harmful. You can be greater than that.That is why discrimination is wrong by consequentialist views. You never know what you gonna get. Sure, use correlation if that is all you have, But to continue with it regardless of reality is risking your own livelyhood. Ever heard of the game theory trap? That is it.

AWALT is a term that groups together female characteristics. You could also say AMALT and group together the common behavioral characteristics of men.

Men piss standing up. AMALT. Now you could tell your anecdotal story about your buddy who pisses sitting down but you would sound stupid because the percentage of men who do that is insanely low.

It is fine as a general tool, although I wouldn't say this particular example is reasonable since rape doesn't happen frequently enough to warrant worrying about. Maybe if her lifestyle made her particularly prone to rape it would be reasonable.

Suppose though that she started using "all men are rapist" in discussions with other people. This would be unnecessarily confusing. When people communicate, they speak in terms of things that are true or false, not what might be useful to believe. Even if someone repeats it only to other people for whom it may be useful, those people will still take it as a fact, not a heuristic. This is what happened with AWALT I think. Men saw it as a good heuristic, and repeated it to other men, who took it as a fact. It also happens with hyperbole, or memes. The original author was exaggerating for dramatic effect and others took it literally.

I don't think this is always on accident either. It allows the author to spread misinformation without being held accountable for lying.

I had a GF who had this belief, along with a lot of other feminist/SJW beliefs. We did not last long. She was a great girl but extremely naive. Our last day together ended in a huge argument about this very topic and her justification was her going to guys places in college that had no interest in her besides fucking and she was hurt by this, oh and I rubbed her p***y on our second date... while she was in my lap making out with me and her boobs hanging out of her shirt.

These people _are_ out there, it's just they tend to stick within their own circles because their insane way of thinking scares people off. Those Twitterellas you see online are real people.

The truth is that there are rapists out there and they are 0.01% of men, but they don't have a sign on them that says "I'm gonna rape you!" and women should take care to protect themselves from these men. Saying you need to protect yourself from these men offends feminists and they retort with "teach men not to rape!" - Idk about anyone else but this was burned into my brain growing up, alongside 'protect all women in need'.
