I was reading a really interesting post by /u/girlwriteswhat, who is one of my favorite posters on Reddit. I wish I could find the post now to link because she says it so much better than I do, but the crux was that women are taking more out of society than they give back, and we're in real danger of an educated workforce crisis.

We have now reached the other side of equality, where more women than men are entering college and graduating. On the surface, that sounds great! More equality! Awesome that women have this choice!

However, there is an underlying threat to our society lurking just beneath the surface. For each woman that graduates, there is one man that did not. There are limited college resources and only so many people can get a degree.

A woman is vastly more likely to never use that degree, and instead only got it as a "fallback" in case her marriage doesn't work out. The need for this educated person did not go away simply because the woman has decided to start a family and be a SAHM. Especially in STEM fields and Dr's. And now there is one less person available to fulfill the need.

What happens when all of these degrees are sitting on a shelf without a person fulfilling their societal obligation to actually USE the degree?

Do you believe women should have some sort of societal obligation that if she wants to take a college spot away from a man that she should provide society with the benefit of her education, at least long enough to make her getting the degree worth it? At the very least, become a neutral burden on society?

Edit: I've been corrected that my initial premises is incorrect, which pretty much invalidated the rest of it. There is no shortage of college admissions right now, and anyone that wants a degree can get one.

Thank you all for helping see the errors in my logic.
