Men are always going to value female beauty. Women will value male beauty, if not as much. There's nothing innately shallow in valuing it TO SOME DEGREE.

But the whole point is HOW MUCH you value it compared to other factors. I do believe that both genders should try to control their natural impulse to focus on beauty and sex because letting that impulse run wild makes nobody happy. It must be constrained--the question is how constrained.

Cultures usually find a kind of equilibrium with respect to these things where the needs of both genders and society as a whole are considered. The issue now is that technology is progressing so quickly that we don't get any time to find this balance before the rules of the game are upended again.

We can’t change the way we fundamentally look anymore than you can change your height/ or your appearance (because believe it or not, it matters). Sure you can enhance a few things but if you by standard your are unattractive, nothing truly helps and that includes makeup. Yes you see mastery makeup transformations online that look rather different / obvious irl.

No, and neither is it shallow for women to prefer attractive men. It’s just biology.

The best relationships are with looksmatched men and women. Mate poaching is likely to be less, and jealousy less. I don’t agree with men dating considerably higher leagues with themselves (the most common habit) and neither do I think well of men who date below their league. The first is too high risk for the reward and the second is asking for a loss in appreciating the woman eventually.

When it starts to be silly is when both men and women allow beauty to be the end all and be all of mate selection.

Women just say this as pushback to men saying it’s shallow to judge men based on money. The Marilyn Monroe quote sums up the dilemma quite nicely.

I partially agree with this. Fashion and personal style is a form of art if you ask me. What you wear signals who you are, who you want to be, and what you’re telling the world.

My issue, especially with North American views on style and beauty, is that it’s very singular. What is considered “attractive” or “beautiful” is one particular look. In order to be beautiful you should strive to be just like that or closest to it as possible, instead of trying to maximize your own features and individuality. — and this isn’t true just for women but for men too. So everyone kinda has the same look, that may or may not suit them at all.

A lot of this has to do with the way a lot men express their attraction. I have no problem with men finding me physically attractive or valuing physical attraction. What I do have a problem with is a man yelling, “Fuck you’re hot!” And barking at me like a dog from across the parking lot (which actually happened) or flooding a woman’s Instagram comments with eggplant emojis accompanied with crass sexual comments like she’s not a human.

I mean I value physical attractiveness in men. But when I find men attractive I don’t degrade them or treat them like a piece of meat.

Men and women alike have standards. Some of those are physical. Some of those are intellectual. I don’t know how you do in the physical side of things, but I’m guessing you aren’t terribly smart, are you?

If a man wants to conceive a child, he needs a woman to do so. If your aesthetic expectations of women are based on media or porn, you might like to consider not being a giant fuckwit about superficial ideals.

It's okay to value attractiveness but can be considered shallow if you prioritize it too much. It's their loss through, prioritizing attractiveness over other factors that make you compatible with someone leads to unhappiness, but at least your GF is super hot so you look happy from the outside I guess.

Innate biological drive to associate "hawt" people with better genetics is not shallow.

Being shown Person A and Person B are neither more genetically suitable than the other but preferring Person A because of looks alone is allegedly shallow.

So what is wrong with being SHALLOW?

Shallow is social shaming that involves people telling other people what they should value in a partner. Let's take note that it's moreso MEN who get shamed for being "shallow".

Woman rejects man because of looks: "Didn't get muh chemistry" (crowd applauses)

Man rejects woman because of her weight: "Wasn't my type." (crowd boos)

"Shallow" is just social shaming and nothing more. Attraction is nebulous and extremely personal. "Shallow" is a term used to describe someone who is playing their cards right in the SMP and causing a glitch in the Matrix.

Man 1: Did you ask out that gal I set you up with?

Man 2: No. She's too fat for me.

Man 1: Jesus Christ man, you're fucking shallow.
