I just hope the senator and the Clinton who proclaimed her a hero will publicly retract their statements. I will hold my breath.

Why would you harrass your senator. Dont you know they have more important things to do besides being harrased by constituents

Don't, your chances of surviving are second to none

[–]harryballsagna 50 points51 points52 points 11 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

That actually means that he has the best chance of surviving.

Thanks! I thought my english was wisecrack-ready, but not yet. I've been using this wrong so many times :(

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Now I'm scared I might have misused "wisecrack"

[–]rafajafar 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Close enough.

Thinking it could be fun to create a novelty account to intentionally misuse idioms. But I think I'll stick to french and go to sleep for now. Cheers!

[–]rafajafar 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Ahhh French. Have a good sleep, or as you say, la petite mort.

[–]CharlieIndiaShitlord 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Um, I thought 'la petit mort' was an orgasm?

[–]harryballsagna 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

"La" is feminine, so would be "petite" with an "e".

And it is an orgasm. Pretty sure that was the joke ;)

This is what she intends to build an art career on? Then again, what else is she going to do. Any HR department will see her as a nightmare.

[–]chillyhellion 28 points29 points30 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

People say the same about Reddit's CEO

[–]Giorria_Dubh 16 points17 points18 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Are you kidding? She's a shoe in for any women's issues policy organisation in the country, plus a sure thing for any government arts grant. It may be completely loony, but loony people control alot of money.

Don't forget, a member of the australian arts council used to frequent radfemhub.

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 14 points15 points16 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

If she wanted to do porn she didn't need a graduate degree. She, well her parents I'm guessing, could have saved a lot of money if she'd just started fucking on camera straight out of highschool.

[–]utmostgentleman 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Straight out of highschool she'd have been just another face in the crowd. Now I'd actually pay to see her in a no holes barred, straight outta Compton, gangbang.

[–]Mitthrawnuruodo1337 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, she intends to build a career as a professional victim masquerading as an artist. All of the best professional victims pretend to be something else that is applicable to a large swath of normal interactions (journalist, media critic, etc) so they can keep a theme going and have fake credibility. Does she have a Patreon yet? If not, she will soon, and she'll be fine financially for quite some time.

I watched it through Milo's story on this, it's like she is trying to create the evidence through a really weird 4 camera video and a weird bunch of scripted looking motions and another stalker like action by her. Everything she is doing is like some crazy stuff I've heard female stalkers do to emotionally batter someone, and society is enabling it.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if idiot feminists view this as the actual video of what happened.

[–]cuteman 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Retroactive establishment of evidence seems to be the MO of some of these deeply troubled individuals.

I once witnessed someone going so far as to participate in project clothesline and then try to use it as evidence of how emotionally damaged she was after the alleged assault (while giving testimony to the University). Nevermind the fact that police never arrested my friend and we're investigating her for fraud.

[–]Capitalsman 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Project clothesline? But I guess she is now going to start saying "see!? evidence!" after all the why are you trying to use science and find proof instead of taking me as the word of a god stuff.

[–]cuteman 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Project clothesline? But I guess she is now going to start saying "see!? evidence!" after all the why are you trying to use science and find proof instead of taking me as the word of a god stuff.

More like, here are pictures of the red shirt I made, which is for rape survivors. Look at how upset I am. Definitely a spirit animal of Emma the matress girl.

[–]Giorria_Dubh 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The wikipedia article says "She wrote of the video that it was not a reenactment of the rape allegation" when what she actually wrote was "Ceci N'est Pas Un Viol is not about one night in August, 2012. It's about your decisions, starting now. It's only a reenactment if you disregard my words. It's about you, not him."

The whitewashing is patent.

[–]ThatEconGuy 89 points90 points91 points 11 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Wrong, that's what actually happened. Do you honestly think a spoiled rotten feminazi like her would tell the truth after digging herself in this deep? She's reenacting the obviously bullshit version of what happened.

[+]Spoonwood -51 points-50 points-49 points 11 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

I don't know of any feminists who are national socialists. Do you? There do exist feminists who are socialists or communists. Thus, you might want to start using terms like 'femicommie' or 'femisocialist'.

[–]poko610 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's a derogatory term that meant to be shocking. We know that (most) feminists aren't literal Nazis.

[–]rafajafar 21 points22 points23 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I know quite a few. I used to fuck with them in college because they were part of a theatre crowd I hung out with through my friend and roommate. By "fuck with them" I mean, as soon as I realized what kind of ideologues I was dealing with, the words "broad" and "dame" suddenly became an active part of my vocabulary when they were around.

Yes, they are fucking insane. Yes, they have no idea how insane they are. Yes, they are vegan. Yes, they somehow are overweight as fuck for the most part. Yes, they are poor as fuck and live in ghetto ass apartments and contribute very little to the society they pretend they're trying to save. Yes, they're all up in everyone's shit while preaching that we need to let everyone live their life how they want.

No, they don't see the irony in any of this.

These are truly toxic people. It is a fucking circle jerk, and most of the people I know don't communicate much with them anymore. They blame it on them moving into DC, but in reality, they all talk massive shit about them and don't like them.

[–]-Fender- 11 points12 points13 points 11 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

...

What? I don't get it.

But how about we just call feminists "feminists" instead? Whether or not they have socialistic tendencies is irrelevant, as it's not communism or socialism we're fighting against anyhow. Just the feminist ideology, and the "patriarchy theory" at its core. Let's not give them any more labels than what's practical. (And adding thousands of labels to their titles tends to be something they already do themselves. I'd rather not give them any additional "special snowflake credentials" than what they're already giving themselves.)

[–]cuteman 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

How about instead of feminists or SJW you use the original words. Dogma.... If you disagree you're ostracized.

[–]-Fender- 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But that's just a facet of feminism. Calling someone a feminist implies that they follow that dogma and believe that patriarchy theory is an accurate representation of objective reality.

[–]August-West 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

B/c when they act like righteous all knowing/suffering fascist crusaders, and boast #killallmen and go on with their sjw bull shit, they can come off as Nazis, which is a synonym for assholes due to their history. Do you need to be briefed on the history if the Nazis? Or why do ppl call uptight assholes Nazis?

[–]-Fender- -3 points-2 points-1 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Nazis were not socialists nor communists. Make up your mind, mate.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Ahem...

[–]-Fender- 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I stand corrected for every Nazi or Communist in the Simpsons, it seems.

[–]August-West 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Didn't call them socialist. Its not a reference to political standings, but cruel attitudes. I dont know what's so hard to understand.

[–]-Fender- 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, that was my bad. I thought you were the same poster as above (the one now downvoted to oblivion), who'd called them socialists/communists or something. (Still not sure what he was trying to say.) I'm still confused about why you decided to initiate a discussion with me in such a confrontational way ("Do you need me to educate you?"), but I'll ignore that aspect for now.

Like "socialist" or "communist", "nazi" is a term that is greatly charged with various connotations. It's also one that the kind of idiots who primarily represent our detractors can easily brush off. ("They called us nazis, but we can't be nazis! We didn't kill Jews!") So if someone is acting authoritarian, dogmatic, like or a bigot or anything else, it seems much more effective and appropriate to me to tell them directly what reprehensible behaviour they are displaying, rather than hurling politically-charged words.

[+]RichardRogers -7 points-6 points-5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It starts as consensual sex but half way through the video she says "Stop!" and he doesn't. From that point on it would be rape.

[–][deleted] 102 points103 points104 points 11 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

“‘Ceci N’est Pas Un Viol’ is not about one night in August, 2012” – the night Sulkowicz says she was raped by a fellow Columbia student.

She instead explains: “It’s about your decisions, starting now. It’s only a reenactment if you disregard my words. It’s about you, not him.”

Oh, that is... she knows exactly what she's doing! She's protecting herself from being sued - as she clearly states it's not about that night and clearly says that the piece is making a statement about the viewer and how the motives of the viewer.

And that this isn't a re-enactment of anything but the "rape" the viewer performs if they watch this for their own gratification.

In other words - she's covering her bases. She makes sure to never actually claim this is what happened and even says that it's not what happened, knowing full well that people will assume she is saying this is what happened anyway.

That way she knows that it will be viewed and reported as if it's her claim about what happened that night, without actually claiming this is what happened that night. So she's committing liable without being exposed to a law suit.

Even the title here is that she "reenacts the "rape"", although she clearly claims it's not a reenactment and it's not about the night of the rape.

She knows exactly what she's doing.

Fuck her.

[–]McFeely_Smackup 29 points30 points31 points 11 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way. You can't just say "I'm not talking about 'x' " and then make it painfully obvious you're taking about "x" and skate on lawsuits.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Art is a very grey territory, very subjective. Viewers' interpretations are not considered objective. I can't imagine how it could proven without hard evidence that it is a reenactment unless the girl herself says more on it and slips up.

[–]McFeely_Smackup 23 points24 points25 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Well, she had the time/date stamp on the video match the date she claims to have been raped.

It's not a very subtle question

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm just speaking from an artistic perspective to say why she might get away with this. To me, because of what she said, she has separated herself enough from what everyone is accusing her of. Sure, I think she's full of it and is being manipulative, but due to my schooling in art I don't feel that authoritative declarations are supportable when they run contrary to what the artist has put forth regarding the content and nature of her creation.

[–]Arby01 -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

To me, because of what she said, she has separated herself enough from what everyone is accusing her of.

Just a question - do you believe her? I mean, she said it isn't a reenactment of her rape. Do you believe that statement?

I don't.

[–]Erociter 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Apparently there was a time stamp on the "art" that matched when she said he raped her.

It could be a coincidence that she picked that particular timeframe, but it might hold up as evidence of malicious intent.

Still, I suspect that she knows she has the power to do this to him and get away with it.

And because of it she will get to attack and torment Nungesser once more in the court of public opinion, and be lauded for it by her feminist peers.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It's all quite gross and wrong. This is "performance art" at its worst. I'd prefer to be forced to watch a bunch of teenage goths perform Hamlet forever and ever than to have this girl continue producing "art."

[–]nolasagne 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Best I could do.

[–]Arby01 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

ok. that's mildly horrible.

[–]dkyguy1995 -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You shouldn't be allowed to be sued even if she said it was the reencatment of that night. You just assume that people will call her on her bullshit and some will get behind it... just like is already happening

[–]analwarcrimes 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She acts (in very different circumstances) and even looks like our very own Ellen Pao, and I hate her just as much.

[–]Giorria_Dubh 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Ha, just pointed that out in another comment. It's a hell of a leap to take someone's statement that "it's about the audiance, not the event" and come up with "it's not a reenactment of the event."

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

and come up with "it's not a reenactment of the event."

She clearly states it's not about the events of that night, and she clearly says it's not a reenactment (unless you disregard her words)

[–]Giorria_Dubh 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She says that the events of that night aren't the point of the piece, not that it doesn't depict them. I mean, come on, the cameras have the date she says she was raped on them.

[–]yendorion 31 points32 points33 points 11 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

She basically made a porn & uploaded it.

[–]Dunkcity239 11 points12 points13 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

A shitty porn at that. I can't fap to this

[–]ProbablyNotCorrect 25 points26 points27 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

it was difficult.. but i did it just to spite her..

[–]lllllllillllllllllll 19 points20 points21 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]KowalskiTheGreat 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]yendorion 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Neither I for that matter.

[–]Ragnrok 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Link? I can't find it and I want to oppress her by watching her suck a cock.

[–]wiseprogressivethink 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She's terrible at it.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I wanna know where she got the 4 cameras as well. She obviously put a little money into this I wonder if someone else bankrolled it for her and is behind this. Maybe she has a manager now.

[–]servicestud 25 points26 points27 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

As has been noted elsewhere: She is literally whoring for attention now.

[–]RichardRogers 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've been giggling at this fact for days now.

[–]Francois_Rapiste 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

deleted What is this?

[–]funnyfaceking 21 points22 points23 points 11 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

If I have an experience that is mildly similar to the rape that happened to me, I often can't calm down for an hour or more. Sometimes it triggers panic attacks that happen for as long as six days. This person has so much contempt for real victims, I cannot even speak. Someone who repeats the same stories over and over again is a liar. I almost said skilled liar, but nobody is letting this one get away with it.

[–]NibblyPig 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'd have thought someone telling the truth would fall about on the same statements, whereas a liar would have to remember every detail they invented and would end up contradicting themselves.

[–]Giorria_Dubh 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's a really fantastic film. If anyone hasn't seen it I recommend giving it a look.

[–]gandooo -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

did this really need to be 15 frames?

[–]funnyfaceking 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm sorry I oppressed you with 15 frames.

[–]olioster 56 points57 points58 points 11 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

Ugh, kids these days. In my day, art was a painting of a pretty lady!

[–]JosephSDFSD 27 points28 points29 points 11 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

"Art" has vague definitions when you talk to these people. Anything can be art.

What you have to remember is that art, like everything else, can be bad.

[–]theJigmeister 17 points18 points19 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's true that anything can be art. It is equally true that art can be terrible and not worth existing.

[–]bakedpotato486 13 points14 points15 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"Art."

[–]64564564asdfsd545 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The fact that you guys call this art makes me want to kill myself.

And I've eaten large amounts of acid in modern art museums dozens of times.

Here, do me a favor and PM your address, I'll shit on your front doorstep, then when the police arrive, as I'm flinging it at your window, I'll claim it's art and we'll all laugh. I'm sure that's what will happen, I'm so glad we're focusing on the big picture, and not validating a real life attention whore troll.

This is the most low-effort, low-rent "art" I've ever seen. It's only art in the sense that we apparently have vocabularies twelve words wide, so we can't use other, more specific terminology.

[–]Grumpchkin 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Dada is proof of this.

Fuck the surrealists, they went off on a wanky bullshit orbit to the planet waste-of-time and "artists" have been creaming off the public money to create "installactions" ever since.

Oh, and guess what this work is referencing, a surrealist painting.

Edit: There was actually a farmer in Ireland who created "art" from stuff he found lying around his farm and sold it for millions. Eventually he admitted he was just picking crap off the ground and giving it a pretentious title, but some people still insisted it was the next mona lisa.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Actually, it's referencing a Dada piece, the treachery of images. Surrealism is not "non art," but traditionally very vivid depictions of dream like images, for example the melting clocks picture (the persistence of memory) by Salvador Dali.

But even Dada had a purpose: WWI, according to the artists, had shown that civilization was a failure. By breaking down the definition of what was art, they subverted the very notion of art itself. Ie, if everything's art, then nothing is. It was a deliberate movement meant to show how superficial and decadent society has become, while also demonstrating how the collective psyche of Europe had been fucked up by WWI.

[–]Giorria_Dubh 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Nope, it was Magritte, who was deifnitely a surrealist.

Anyhow, if that was the point they were trying to make they failed because the art community embraced the nothingness and made it center stage.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Huh. I deserve a refund from high school art class.

In all seriousness though, I do agree there was failure. But this is a time when Fifty Shades of Grey is considered literature.

As someone who has been raped (like, really), I would love to shove that mattress right down her lying throat. I wish feminists would drop their rape culture and come out and publicly say they will accept people into their little club without having to make up a rape story to fit in. It is further assault to people whose experiences are real. Lies like hers don't hurt the average men they so blindly hate - they hurt the women they're pretending to be, as well as every male who has to live with real trauma from real assaults.

Art? This is about as artful as that twat on Instagram who posted a picture of her blood-stained pants to show people her period.

But these two examples aren't the bad thing here. It's actually the amount of attention they're getting from the media and then social media, ten fold. Now, every little girl and women who think they're feminists will repost this with some side comment like "wow, what a brave woman!" without even watching the video or reading the article, I'll bet. Believe me, I have a college friend SJW who considers herself a feminist. She has a boyfriend too and I'm surprised how he puts up with her bullshit. Maybe cause she's hot? Who knows why he tolerates her, but she's your stereotypical feminist and SJW. I used to be friends with her too till I found out what a shitty person she really is. But back to my point.

This has the power to reach all the gullible people who will eat this shit up, as long as it represents their sex. You know how feminism constantly tries to preach about equality for all? That's complete and utter bullshit. They are using that as a cover to hide the fact that they're only benefitting their own gender. Homosexual men and women are fair game, but when it comes to men, it's just like that Game of Thrones season 4 tagline: All Men Must Die.

How do people in political power not see that if feminists and SJW's get their way, this could become a reality. And not like Nazi Germany bad, but if they did rise to power, imagine all the initiatives they would try to push on the male population. From infertility to castration.

I know how much this shit sounds like it belongs on /r/redpill and /r/conspiratard, but women like this one in the article are all contributing to an agenda of some sort. So FUCK feminism and fuck their shitty ideals. This is why more and more MRA's are popping up, a direct cause of their shitty effect on society. I mean shit, here's another brilliant feminist who wants to reduce the population. http://www.vice.com/read/is-reducing-the-male-population-by-90-percent-the-solution-to-all-our-problems

And isn't the rule of thumb that any ideal that ends with "ism" a bad thing or will end up bad?

[–]autowikibot 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Horseshoe theory:

The horseshoe theory in political science asserts that rather than the far left and the far right being at opposite and opposing ends of a linear political continuum, they in fact closely resemble one another, much like the ends of a horseshoe. The theory is attributed to French writer Jean-Pierre Faye.

In University of Reading academic Peter Barker's book, GDR and Its History, Peter Thompson of the University of Sheffield observes that the theory is "increasingly orthodox," and describes the theory as seeing "left and right-wing parties being closer to each other than the centre."

Image i - Horseshoe theorists argue that the extreme left and the extreme right are a lot more similar than members of either group would admit.

These leftys see sex as dirty, or freeing, or something... it really depends on their mood and what fits that moment's agenda.

[–]dangerousopinions 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So she just actually did, voluntarily, the actual thing she claims she was violated by. This is fucking absurd. And of course the typical "nobody reacts to trauma the way you expect them to" explanation. Like as if. Yes, that's true, but I think we can say safely that almost nobody who was actually victimized would voluntarily reenact the traumatic event, especially a rape reenactment with actual penetration.

Also, I really hate when art is just gross porn. I have no problem with porn, but you can't be like "no it's just art, not porn" when it by definition is porn and porn is an artform as much as any other anyway. Like if you suck a dick, it wasn't just an acting gig because you claim it so.

[–]geniice 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't get it. Still it comes with some text so lets see if that helps.

" Ceci N'est Pas Un Viol is not about one night in August, 2012. It's about your decisions, starting now. It's only a reenactment if you disregard my words. It's about you, not him.

Do not watch this video if your motives would upset me, my desires are unclear to you, or my nuances are indecipherable. "

Yeah I'm pretty sure I don't get it so fair enough.

"You might be wondering why I've made myself this vulnerable. Look—I want to change the world, and that begins with you, seeing yourself."

I already own a mirror and frankly I suspect you overestimate your abilities as an artist.

" If you watch this video without my consent, then I hope you reflect on your reasons for objectifying me and participating in my rape, for, in that case, you were the one who couldn't resist the urge to make Ceci N'est Pas Un Viol about what you wanted to make it about: rape.

Please, don't participate in my rape. Watch kindly. "

No we've already established that I souldn't watch it.

"Here are a few questions to help you reflect.

Searching: Are you searching for proof? Proof of what?"

Well pretty much everything. But really its best to leave that kind of question to the physicists (the problem with asking the chemists and biologists is that at this point they could tell you how much it would cost to get an answer).

"Are you searching for ways to either hurt or help me?"

Not really.

"What are you looking for?"

You first.

"Desiring:

Do you desire pleasure?"

Human beings generaly do

"Do you desire revulsion? Is this to counteract your unconscious enjoyment?"

Nah thats what liveleak is for

"Me:

How well do you think you know me? Have we ever met? Do you think I'm the perfect victim or the world's worst victim?"

I'm not sure there is an objective scale on these things. I mean technicaly going by bodycount the world's worst victim would have been stalin if someone did indeed poison him.

"Do you refuse to see me as either a human being or a victim? If so, why? Is it to deny me agency and thus further victimize me? If so, what do you think of the fact that you owe your ability to do so to me, since I'm the one who took a risk and made myself vulnerable in the first place?"

Are you trying to claim that people need to make themselves vulnerable for third parties to dehumanise them? There is a lot of historical evidence that suggests otherwise. 30 years war for example or the ongoing syrian civil war.

"Do you hate me? If so, how does it feel to hate me?"

You annoy me. There is a worthwhile debate to be had about consent (assent vs consent for example) and sexual behaviour at universities and you are getting in the way.

My question about the video is: Why did they blur out the male face? I know that in some areas, publishing a video requires the legal consent of all who have faces displayed. Is that the case here? Or there may be so many viewers that didn't notice that this is a reenactment of an incident which may or may not have occurred, that such facial disclosure may actually create a likelihood of a physical attack on him?

[–]Centrisian 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Artistic analysis? To make it an anyman, to which one could project a previous assailant or potential assailant. It could also symbolize the face of her alleged rapist for someone if they believed her story.

It also makes her not responsible if he were to see it and try to file suit against her for defamation.

I'm fairly certain (the paragraphs mentioned it being a consensual taping/acts) that he knew it was being filmed.

"I know he did it because my friends say he isn't a good dude!"

People like you are exactly the problem. "I don't like him" is not the same as "he is guilty of raping a woman." Plenty of guys who people don't like have tons of consensual sex. Also, "Emma is a lovely person," bullshit, even if she was really raped, the way she is going about it is pretty disturbing, she seems to enjoy the attention she's getting from it. There is something wrong with her. I know girls who have been sexually assaulted, walking around with a mattress and basically screaming "HEY EVERYONE I WAS RAPED LOOK AT ME" is about the last thing they would do.

? I can prove it to you if you'd like me to do so somehow?

The police is not "pretty positive", the college is not "pretty positive", what you think doesn't matter when it comes to wether he did it or not. What we do know is that Emma kept humiliating him and destroying his life.

The dude is German, there might be some social norms that he's not used to here but I'm pretty sure Rape is illegal over there too.

Hi, I'm going to give benefit of doubt here and assume your comment is true, even though some are calling bullshit. Whether you actually know them is beside my point anyway. I'm going to use your comment to get to the core of the actual rights issues I think MRAs should care about by applying some extreme benefit of doubt in her favor to this case. She doesn't really deserve that benefit given the history of this case, but for the sake of this comment. Let's assume she was raped exactly as described.

Given that assumption, I still think her campaign, and the larger fight over rape policies on college campuses, is dangerously misguided. And I'm wondering if you would agree.

Whether or not she was actually raped does not change the questions of due process and rights that I think MRAs should be the most concerned with here. It's a very, very shitty situation to be in to be raped, and have no evidence to present. Or worse, to be raped, and know that the evidence that is out there is more suggestive of a consensual encounter than a rape. But we can't go from that shitty situation, to removing due process rights. The presumption of innocence in our legal system is there for damn good reason. In a perfectly just world all rapists would be prosecuted and punished severely for their actions. But in a perfectly just world, there would also be no rapists to begin with.

Even if she was raped, the police and the college are correct not to pursue a case where the only evidence is the accusation. And allowing her to continue a public campaign against him on campus, as part of a school assignment, was questionable judgment from the school at best.

edit: I wanted to add in here, but forgot before posting the comment. I think a better campaign would be speaking to victims of rape, or potential victims of rape, giving them the tools and support they need to deal with the trauma and also take actions that will make it easier to bring rapists to justice without also stepping on due process. Get a rape kit. Don't interact with the rapist after the fact because nothing good can come of it, you'll only hurt yourself more and might hurt your chances of getting the rapist prosecuted. Seek counseling and support as soon as possible, rather than dealing with it alone. Of course, maybe that's just victim blaming, huh?

"Columbia" Is there like 10000 students in that year?

Can people stop going after her? Please?

It's pointless. Even if you assume she's completely at fault (we just don't know), most people seem to be judging it even harsher than people on this sub.

Instead, let's remember a minute that she's the victim of enablers in the media. They pumped her and dumped her.

It's the media (and possibly academia) who savvy observers should be going after. Things didn't get to this point in a vacuum.

Hahahahahaha d'aww everybody leave this poor widdle giwl alone, it wasn't her fault!

Fuck off, she's nothing more than an evil, narcissistic attention whore that doesn't worry about anyone's life but her own. Not a role model or someone worth defending.

Being raped is not a way to become famous. It doesn't make you a rock star. It doesn't make you special. It destroys vital parts of your very self and is no trivial matter. She makes a mockery of the severity of the crime. She trivialises pain and trauma that has destroyed lives. Rape is not a fucking art project. At this point I hate her almost as much as my own rapists because she is helping people get away with it. She is perpetuating the fucked up mentality that if you were cheating on your guy and have no excuse? Rape. Can't handle rejection? Rape. You wanted something from someone and they said no? Rape. You just don't like someone? Rape. There should be no mercy for this shit.

I honestly don't know why she isn't in jail, where she might find out what rape actually is. What a piece of shit human.

[–]wisty -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If she's going down, I'd rather see the people who backed her go down with her.

Way to back peddle.
