I am almost 41 years old and if shit does not change soon I really am afraid that I am going to become unemployable because even though I am a great IT tech, I am not the emotional feely person that these weak people want to be around. I have had people complain about me, not about a lack of skill or lack of fixing the problem, but because I am not sociable enough when I show up to fix something. Complained against for being too professional. And yes, all of those complaints were by women.

Women arent in computer science because they dont know the diff between TREK TOS/TNG/DS9/VOYAGER ETC. I know it's anecdotal, but I have a friend who studied CS and quit. She is super intelligent, she could do it no problem. She never complained about other people. The only reason she quit was that she was getting bored to death. Same for her other female friends. Guys quit too, mind you. It really takes a particular set of interests to pursue programming.

Going total nerd here and saying this: how do jokes about Star Trek make someone uncomfortable? For over 50 year Star Trek has been one of the most inclusive and equality related shows. The original series had one of the first African American lead actresses and had the first interracial kiss shown on TV. The Next Generation had several woman lead characters, Voyager had the first woman to be a captain, and Discovery had an openly gay couple.

I know situations still arise is the gaming/ comic/ geek culture, but there are more girls and women than ever that are part of it. But the problem arises when some women demand to be accepted rather than acceptance happening organically. Don't stomp your foot and scream "here I am, your must accept me as part of your nerd culture" to a bunch of guys reading Spider Man comics. It won't work.

Lol. Lol lol lol and then some lol. I am a male teacher who spent a year and a half working at a special needs primary school where my colleagues were all women. Fucking lol!

The first three months were really uncomfortable. I shared some interests with one or two of the other teachers, but only superficially. After that initial three month period ended, they got more comfortable around me and reverted back to openly conversing on the topics that would naturally come up, and a lot of it was based on a domain of experience that I as a man had very little knowledge of, and yes much of it was related to things like menstrual cycles, menopause, pregnancy, bras and the joys of taking them off after a long day, make up, hot guys, how men are arseholes, etc, etc, etc.

Now this did make it easier actually, them just being comfortable and natural in their interactions and conversations, but the bottom line is I still did not fit in and never really felt 100% comfortable working in that environment.

But here's the bottom line: it wasn't their fault, and I did not blame them or hold them responsible. It was an artifact intrinsic to a situation where one person is an anomaly in an otherwise specifically homogenous social group.

You are going to find the exact same thing if a brick layer carpools with a bunch of doctors, and you will find it regardless of gender.

And you sure as hell find it when my buddies (both men and women) and I hang out and ANYONE who isn't into sci-fi or fantasy joins us. They always hate it because it just isn't their scene. Sure they have a Big Bang Theory-esque understanding of the culture, but ultimately the first chance they get they will automatically gravitate towards someone else with a less nerdy bent.

Blaming outcast phenomenons experienced by outsiders in niche subcultures on men seems like a sign that this most recent extreme feminism movement is on its deathbead, grasping at whatever straws it can in a desperate attempt to try and seem alive and relevant.

You know, there was one episode where some of the crew were swapped out with evil alternate universe versions of themselves and come to find out that the evil versions were incredibly easy to identify and lock away while the 'good' versions were able to sneak about undetected by their crew.

It is ridiculously easy to pretend to be a blue pilled simp, by hiding in plain sight whereas feminazis announce themselves from a thousand miles off. I don't follow modern entertainment trends and almost exclusively indulge in anime and Japanese video games. I don't know that I could name three Game of Thrones characters or any of the actors from the big popular Super Hero movies all the rage right now. All this talk and jokes in my office around modern pop culture, a pop culture I largely don't engage with make me feel unwelcome.

Or, you know, I tune it out because it's white noise and when talk returns to work or something relevant to me and they notice I'm distracted they let me know I should be paying attention again. And nobody's mad because I got involved in something else mid-meeting and they got involved in non-work talk mid-meeting and we largely trust that we still basically get our jobs done despite whatever diversions we get ourselves into as humans are prone to do.

Glad fragile and toxic femininity is being called out haaa so much shit feminists should be called out on but they ain’t.

Election of Donald trump, organized sky screams, man spreading, micro aggressions, free the nipple (I don’t think many straight guys mind this but at the same time, what the fuck?), mindset that if people don’t think the same way they “are a part of the problem”, girls hating on each other (usually older women have beef with younger women because they’re such a big threat), girls method of “beefing” with each other (grabbing your social clique, spreading rumours about other women, dragging out an issue over the course of a lifetime instead of men who’ll fight and it’s over when the fights over). After the fight I’ve literally seen guys just nod at each other or even talk to each other in passing. Ever seen women do that? No, because when women beef they do shit that affects other women for years by doing all that shit, fucking up the other girls “brand equity”. This is like a 2-3 year process. It affects their dating life, type of women who want to hang out with her (very cliquey). Another 2-4 years affect. Over dumb shit that men would have solved over a one day fist fight.

And this by the way is why women are such social creatures and will never be the lone soldier against an army. Because that’s literally their method of fighting. So they’re systematically prone to agreeing with others around them, ie systematically prone to groupthink. Go into any highschool and look at the females and you’ll see this phenomenon.

In fact I’d blame a significant (60%) of the depression teenage girls have on this phenomenon. It’s said that girls have more suicidal thoughts than men isn’t it? I’d be curious what the breakdown of ages is. If it’s within the teenage years I’d understand. As girls “fall out” with some of the other girls, they tend to cling onto the men who are linked or semi linked to the group. This causes other girls to refer to her as a slut, and guys to refer to her as “easy” (remember we’re talking teenage kids here). Whereas if men have a dispute they can fight it out and be ok if they’re friends, or fight it out and just nod at each other if their groups never got along anyways. But men don’t go around spreading shit about the other person and systematically trying to fuck their life up. The men who kill themselves are the ones who fall through the cracks of society and nobody gives a fuck about. That’s why men have less THOUGHTS of suicide, but have more actioned suicide. Because when they go for however many years of nobody giving a fuck and they watch their “best years” slip by and no matter what they do nothing improves, it’s not surprising to me they say fuck it at some point.

Then you’ve got your general over sensitive shit as you guys said. Sheryl sandberg being pissed off the people she had a meeting with didn’t know where the female washroom was, etc.

I don't like the title of this post, and I don't like most of these popular comments, especially the one saying women don't do IT because it's hard.

But I also don't like the suggestion that this article is making. It's insulting to the countless successful females I've had the pleasure of working with in the software industry, who have had to face real discrimination and real effects of being in a male majority environment, to say that star wars jokes are the real issue.

I've worked in software for more than a decade and I literally cannot remember the last time anyone told a joke related to any science fiction series. I feel like the article is trying to trade on the popularity of these titles instead of making a meaningful point, which means it's shitty journalism.

I have been thinking that female fragility or something of the like is an actual thing that isn't really talked about or acknowledged much. Women are more emotional and more prone to experiencing negative emotions such as fear and anxiety. Often times they will do some manipulative and immoral things in order to deal with this.

I know one woman who acts totally psycho to get others to do what she wants in order to alleviate her fear and anxiety when experiencing such things. Often times the S.O. of the one is the main target of this kind of behavior.

I have to say, I usually agree with the arguments made in most posts on this subreddit, as this side feels much more welcoming and embracing of equality instead of blaming "our side" 's problems on the "other side".

But this post feels the other way around to me--making fun of some women for their feelings of being unwelcome instead of asking everyone to respect and take seriously men's problems. If the genders were switched, would you still advocate for it?
