I disagree. I don't think this has been true for centuries. Society has been so technologically advanced for so long that people no longer make those considerations on the basis of survival. I agree that people still choose a "better option" while in an otherwise perfectly satisfactory relationship, but I think that is essentially just selfishness and greed.

There’s a stigma to leaving relationships that aren’t abusive, especially for women.
Leaving a relationship where you’ve been with a person for a long time is hard for lots of logistical reasons, including shared property and children.

Like, sure, people (not just women) want the best picking for themselves and are sometimes prone to monkey-branching and cheating because of it, but it's nowhere near as frequent as you describe it, because, if we assume that the goal is optimal, longterm investment by a high-value man, then this strategy for the woman in question is completely useless. First off, the reason you can't get blown out by better competition in terms of your family is because you are kin and kin is a matter of biology, not a matter of sociology; you can't stop being your parents' son and your children's father no matter what, because you share the same blood. However, you absolutely can get blown out by better competition in terms of your friends, because they can simply starting thinking of you as less relevant to them and find a new friend to replace you with. Also, even if you can't stop being family and replaced, you absolutely can get alienated by them in the long-run. Your place as Number #1 is not guaranteed by any measure.

Second, your girlfriend's biology may simply feed her endorphins and oxytocin when she is with you that prevents her from simply abandoning you at the sight of the first "better" man. In order words, she may simply love you and cherish your bond, which is, again, biology. Furthermore, the same as in the Christian Grey example, what reason does your girlfriend have to believe that Chris Brown is going to be as good to her as you are, despite his fame and wealth, especially since it's widely known he beats women and risk it all by trying to be with him? Look, there are shitty women and men everywhere that are just self-centered. People just need to be more careful picking better partners. This is why their past matters because it highlights their judgement and values beyond what they say. This is for both genders. The past is an imperfect predictor of future behavior, but it is the best we got.

As a side note, I do think since women file 70%+ divorces, one of two things are true: women either give up easily and more readily abandon a relationship OR men hang on too long when they are in a bad relationship. Otherwise, the rate would be more even.

Objectively the optimal hierarchy of a relationship is first a happy, hale and whole individual on their own. Second; two individuals happy, hale and whole as a couple. Finally; two individuals and their offspring happy, hale and whole as a family.

The individual is prioritised above all because if they are not happy, hale and whole first, their issues will impact the relationship. Additionally, why parents and children are prioritised below the relationship is because couples coexist daily. As parents age and children grow this fact perseveres, and as such takes precedence. A couple who are unhappy and not wholly satisfied together, are much more prone to splintering if external relationships are prioritised over their own.

I agree, I am 22 and never been in a relationship ever. I have friends, brother, mom and dad. Whenever I am struggling in life these are the only people I trust that can help me. Since I have never had a woman in my life before i do believe that if a woman comes into my life later when I get my shit together she will be valuable to me but not as valuable as those people i listed above. This Pattern can be seen at every Single Mammal. Its very Important that i DO NOT judge Women for this, this Mindset established from survival instincts, its valid. But it being valid doesnt mean i have to not "protect myself" from this.

You misunderstand hypergamy the way that TRP uses it. It means that heterosexual women are only sexually attracted to men who are of higher value than them in some way, as opposed to men, who can be (and often are) sexually attracted to women whom are lower than them (hypogamy). Of course, men would prefer to optimize if they can and be attracted to the hottest and most pleasant woman whom they can find, but it is not a requirement for them to find someone who is hotter and nicer for sexual attraction to be there, although most men with some self-respect are not going to date long-term women who are less attractive than them or who are unpleasant people towards them. In fact, men historically are hypogamous in wanting relationships with women who are lesser than them in some way, such as having lesser intelligence or lesser careers.
