Hey all. Just to clarify, I'm not against anyone's enjoyment of these books. In a way I understand the appeal of them. As a lad who watched his share of hentai, I'm here for the plot as well.

What follows is not me putting down a medium because women enjoy it. I say more power to you ladies. I just want to a fun, civil dispute over the similarities I have observed from these novels and your typical, run of the mill porn video. Maybe we can bridge some gaps between us. Maybe we all come out of this hornier yet understanding horn dogs than before. Okay? Sweet!

After years of snooping through my step mom's romance novellas as a kid and reading erotica out of sheer curiosity as an adult man, I'm convinced these books are just as ridiculous and objectifying as porn. I say this for three reasons. The first being...

Book Covers

I cannot go one rack of the romantic paperback section without seeing at least 10 shredded dudes with their shirts off. Ladies tell me, is this what appeals to you? Do these covers seriously grab your attention, because they are on the same level of unrealistic beauty standards men supposedly have for women thanks to pornos? The average dude is not that cut without serious dedication and/or dehydration like the average woman is not that perky without surgery and good camera angles.

Also, a good number of those covers completely omits the dude's face, only leaving his abs on display. Tell me how is that not anymore objectifying than a porn scene focusing solely on the actress' ass or tits? Is there's something objectively better about the female gaze I missed? Judging from these covers alone I say you ladies are no better than a horny bro scrolling through porn on Reddit.

Alright next reason.

The Dialogue

I mean where do I begin? At least with porn you can skip or mute all the talk. After all it doesn't really serve the purpose of the medium. In Firefighter Daddy, however, dialogue is pretty much required to serve it's purpose of telling a compelling narrative. Since women supposedly love the mental stimulation of a good conversation, it's pivotal these books nail the dialogue. The thing is all this titillating banter between the heroine and her romantic interest is just bad. I mean college co-ed, pizza delivery three-way shot in the early 2000s bad. Maybe it's because I'm a dude, but lines like "do I scare you? and "you're gonna hate yourself when I'm through" unironically coming out of a man (pun intended) is 90's porno levels of bad.

At last my final reason...

Same Old Dirty Sexy Stuff

The heroine is still getting dicked down raw by a man who just has to ravish her or his dick will explode. Oh and speaking of dick, that's still the main event. Yeah the dude will eat the girl out, giving her a gazillion orgasms in the process, but nothing quite knocks her out like his pulsating manhood oozing cream down her thigh or red red lips. Better yet nothing ties up a sex scene better than the man finishing, assuring the heroine of her lover's mad desire for her. God for bid one of these dudes don't finish, but I guess that would kill the fantasy?

Again, not knocking what you ladies are into. Fantasy is the bedrock of sexual desire. Porn plays into male fantasy while those good romance novellas plays into yours. No harm no foul, yet porn is definitely scrutinized more. Is the the difference between reading about a dominating man ravishing a woman vs watching that dynamic on xhamster really that great? As far as my observations goes, not really, but I'm willing to stand corrected.

So yeah have at it guys and gals!
