There's no way.

I don't care how women talk about how they're independent (not dependents) but they will absolutely not financially support a man for any significant period of time. If you lost the job due to no fault of his own he better be on that job board the next day and he better get a job that pays the same real freaking fast.

If she has other things to lose like the kids in the house and her lifestyle she might give him a couple months. But if she don't really need him for nothing they're done.

We might call that entitlement or whatever but it doesn't matter - it's deep in a woman's lizard brain that a man must be pulling his weight at minimum. And even that's only for a short while. If he's making the same kind of money she is he's going to be pretty much expected to be trying to find something that pays a little bit more or really busting his ass to try and get a promotion/raise.

We basically have to put it like this, if having you in her life doesn't significantly increase her lifestyle you're finished.

No this can't be said about very very young couples. girls in their early twenties don't give a s*** about nothing except if he's hot and her friends want him. If he's good looking she imagines the possibilities and potential. But since she's pretty much giving him the prize he's just going to get complacent. At that point she'll take his seed and discard him.

If you ask women this question, you will not get an honest answer. Women can financially support a man for a very limited amount of time in the grand-scheme of things and every woman has a different limit or level of tolerance for it.

Unless the woman is absolutely hideous and is dating up by 5 or 6 points, as a man, you are on borrowed time if a woman is providing for you.

I'd say, 1 or 2%.

I wouldn't be able to give a percentage or estimate because I don't believe there has been large scale studies on this sort of thing. There will be beautiful women that are willing to financially support their partner but I do think it is definitely the minority. (Also depends on what you define as beautiful...)

There are relationships where the man is the house-husband, and they are doing fine. But in the majority of modern partnerships both are working.

Within my friend group, I think only the very progressive women would say yes to supporting their partner financially. Me and a friend with similar outlooks on relationships agree that we want a household where both parties are working, and have similar incomes. I don't believe I would be entirely comfortable completely financially supporting a partner even if they did all the household chores. That said, I also enjoy what I'm studying, so I want to work in that field and probably won't be satisfied being a housewife. I'd think in most successful relationships there is a split in the chores if both parties are working (e.g. I enjoy cooking and cleaning, so I'll do that, and my future husband can deal with car maintenance and yard work or something).

If I wanted a dependent, I'd just get pregnant. I don't mind being the primary breadwinner, but I'm not having a dude slouching at home all day seeing as there's no children and two people don't make much mess. I wouldn't mind financially supporting my spouse during re-education or such either.

I’d say 30% but most of them are not beautiful women. The trade off to this though is if a woman is going to support you permanently a lot more will be required of you physically and sexually than if it was a 50/50 deal or the man supporting her.

Women(not all) tend to operate with a trade off system. So the more they expect of you financially the more willing they are to forego looks requirements. The less they require of you financially the more stringent they are about looks requirements.

I don't think that most men who want their wives to stay home do it because they are loving, i think most who want that do it because they are controlling. They want to control the money decisions and have the power to dictate what she is and is not allowed to do.

I don't think women are as likely to be that financially controlling so I doubt the percentage would be very high.

I am totally fine with making a lot more than my partner, but my partner better work.

I'd say 15-20% the men in those families are the better home maker or are just working a lower income job than their women. In other words it a mutual decision that is best for the family.

For the rest of the women, I think it's a mental thing where they need to completely serve or care for someone that they believe can't function without them, or it's a control thing where the woman wants the most financial control to make it more difficult for the man to leave her.

As most men do not want women outearning them in relationships. Socially, men still tie their identity to their income and perception of their masculinity. Despite women being able to make more, socially most men don't want that dynamic IRL where their woman makes more than they do.

I wouldn’t like to be with a men that doesn’t work. I don’t understand men who would support woman that doesn’t want to work. I don’t see why would young healthy men decided not to work and to be financially supported by me. The only exception would be if he wanted to do everything around the house, cooking, cleaning, taking care of supplies and the kids while I am away, but even then it would be exciting that he has some sort of a passion what he would like to do. There are far more woman that want to take care of household then there are men.

In my neighborhood, where everyone is at least somewhat firmly established in their career, I think it’s probably 100 percent both husbands and wives who would be financially supportive of the other. Part of that is being at a point where both sides CAN, and I’m assuming have been building up their nest eggs and emergency funds in case anything happens: so there is a luxury there. But, as an example, any time someone would announce they were having a baby it was often the conversation of “ok, should one of us stay at home? And if so, who?”

A close friend of mine is in this situation. He's a stay at home dad. His girl was pretty hot before she had kids. He's a really good looking dude though, he could easily be a male model if he didn't absolutely hate the culture. They also have a special needs child so they save a ton of money with him staying at home.

I would support my partner and his child if needed because of an accident or something, even permanently. We both make enough money to do that on our own, but there's no way in hell that I would support some random ass guy because he doesn't want to work. That's not happening and I would say that the women willing to do it without a need would be less than 5%. There's 0 need to accept that situation.

My buddy is this way. He’s a stay at home dad going to school while his wife works full time earning good $. He’s 6’4” male model material, genius level smart. Also a drug addict ex con. His wife was very attractive til she got pregnant & put on weight. I think she’s since lost the weight. He won’t be jobless forever but it just makes sense for them right now as her career is blossoming & he’s figuring out what to do next after some time in jail.

But they are an exception to the rule. I’d say less than 3%.

I think about 25 Percent of average woman would do it, assuming you are talking about completely unemployed men. For beautiful women, it's going to be 0 or close to it. A beautiful woman can be a successful model or actress and meet another successful man at work. But there are lots of average women who out earn their husbands. Even pretty ones. But the husbands are not completely out of work, they at least do something

I think men providing is an outdated culture thing. People think money is status. Hypergamy is more about the tittle or status. For example a kick boxing champion on the bones of his ass will have no issue getting an attractive woman. Or the bouncer at a club, a Dr or a body builder. And yes a boss has a title to. You could run a rubbish collecting company earning 350k and many would look past you for a better title. Hypergamy is not as much about money it's more about the status.

I once was in a serious relationship where we both said we'd have our backs if anything bad financially happen to either of us. I lost my business and it took me about 2-3 months to get another job.

I was able to pay for my portion of rent during that time and utilities (off savings) and she covered my portion of groceries and similar expenses during that time. We didn't go out during that time.

Although I was actively fixing my situation and took care of everything house related, she made it hell during that time. She made me feel horrible and told everyone about it.

Not all women are like that though. Her sister supported her husband through a long process career change. Incredibly supportive wife. It kinda open my eyes to what to look for.

Permanently though, that will be extremely rare, especially if shes a beautiful woman. I do have a cousin who is married to a beautiful woman. He is obese. She could easily be a social media influencer. She is younger than him and they met in HS when he was one of the popular kids so I am assuming that psychology has carried over as she has maintained him during a 2 to 3 year unemployment. So it does happen.

Is the guy in this scenario doing anything at all? My wife has always been the breadwinner, even though I'm skilled labor (mechanic) and earned over the median wage. After just a few years of marriage, my check became my check, my own spending money with no commitments, and she paid all the bills. Then out of the blue 7 years ago she tells me that's no longer working, and that she wants me to retire (at 51) so our schedules (she's in medicine and works all hours) never conflict again and we'll have more time together.

And that children is how I met Reddit. I had to do something to fill the hours that I previously filled with a wrench in my hand.

Also for what it's worth, I know a lot female doctors, administrators, etc who far out earn their spouses. I don't know that they'd be cool with them laying around the pool all day, but at the end of the day they are supporting them.

My parents are an example of this - but they’re very unusual. My mother was always the breadwinner. My dad worked here and there, but never steadily and he never brought in more money than her per hour or job. He was the “house-husband” who took care of me and most of the household things (though my mother still did the deeper cleaning). My mother was always the more practical and steady while my father is artistic and more temperamental. In many ways they are best friends - but of course they’ve had their issues (married over 45 years now) and my fathers lack of financial contribution (especially when they most needed it) has been a sore point at times.

I think it’s unusual for any modern person to be completely ok financially supporting a partner permanently- it’s rare that both people don’t work these days. Even if it’s part time or off and on, few people pair up where one never financially contributes. And that’s fair enough really in this day and age.

I don’t really know what a woman’s beauty has got to do with it - I don’t think most women whatever they look like will be prepared to financially care for a partner permanently. If he is physically unable to work, then I hope a woman would stay with her partner and financially support him though.

If I had a super high paying job that was secure, then I personally wouldn’t mind financially supporting a man I loved if he wasn’t able to bring in money of his own. I don’t feel somehow ideologically opposed to it. If a person makes my life better in other ways, then they’re worth what I can give them - but I wouldn’t support someone if I could be just as fulfilled and happy on my own of course.

I question your statement of “most men naturally love supporting their wives or at least feel indifferent to it”. I think one caveat here is that men who do completely and permanently financially support a woman don’t always treat her with complete respect as a person - they often belittle her and feel entitled to be in control of her. I have seen that in the traditional families I’ve been around where there is no question of the wife working - the husband is not just selflessly generous and benevolent, he feels he is paying for something and she should behave accordingly. I would expect that a woman who is completely financially supporting a man may well have some similar feelings of entitlement to his behaviour. Respect is a tricky thing - I certainly don’t think my mother disrespects my father or sees him as less of a man because he has been financially dependent - because I don’t think it’s a metric she uses for “masculinity” or respect. But some women absolutely do see a man’s ability to provide as intrinsically linked to masculinity - so they may not be able to respect a man who can’t provide for themselves (or her)….

Many of the men I know expect their wives to work - they just don’t expect them to make more than them or be completely financially independent. They still expect them to contribute financially though, if they are capable. Every woman in my family works - married, with kids, without kids, single…no stay at home spouses among them. My grandmothers were house-wives (in the 50s and 60s) - but one of them got a job when my granddad passed away. Any woman I know born after 1945 has contributed financially to her family, even after having kids - she may have worked less hours or taken a few years off if they could afford it when the kids were very young - but this concept of men completely financially supporting their wife is quite old-fashioned and seldom seen in my country. It simply isn’t practical anymore for most families - and many women don’t want to be completely financially dependent on their husband/partner either.

I don't see any reason why would anyone COMPLETELY support anyone financially. Yeah, maybe for some finite amount of time, when your partner is between jobs or after childbirth, but not for an infinite amount of time. It's just not worth it, I don't think the other person can provide enough value for me to consider supporting them.

I work with people who are sick, Ive come across countless families where a husband got sick and the wife stresses herself out by supporting him both by caring for him and paying for their life.My husbands father died 3 years ago due to cancer. For 6 years, my husbands mother worked 50hours a week and cared for him when he got home, before he died.

Im working with a family right now in the same situation, and the wife works full time plus has also taken out ALL OF HER 401k money to pay for her husbands care.
