That's a big difference between these subs and this one: bans (automatic or otherwise) and removed comments.

The mods of this sub are ok with different opinions, even if they're out of bad faith. Sure, your comment may get downvoted to Hell (mine have, and prolly will in the future), but neither it nor you will be removed.

I understand carving out spaces for specific types of people, but refusal to allow critique and question will lead to bad juju down the road.

Liking Jordan Peterson's self-help books isn't a red flag, those are extremely popular with people who don't know who he is and afaik the advice is mostly practical stuff like "get organized" and "speak clearly," between the tangents about Disney movies.

Thinking that Jordan Peterson is telling you the truth about everything and isn't gratuitously manipulating the information he presents through major lies of omission is a serious red flag.

The guy is an evangelical Western preacher who went into academia and still managed to attach himself to anti-Semites, racism, and mystical new age bullshit. I think he acknowledges Jung's tenure as a Nazi in one of his lectures, but afaik he hasn't brought up the 30+ years of statements and efforts from international Jungian institutes on how Jung's personal belief in white superiority impacted the development of his theories as well as the use of Jungian psychotherapy on non-white patients/clients.

Peterson is a dour soothesayer who has found a large group of depressed and desperate men who want to hear somebody with a degree in psychology tell them that they have value, their brains aren't broken, and that they as an individual have more power than they could have ever even imagined, if it weren't for those bloody Judeo-Marxists.

Incidentally, kind of strange that Peterson's favourite author is late Russian nationalist Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, a man who objectively influenced Putin's designs on retaking Ukraine with his 1990 essay Rebuilding Russia. Putin was a huge fan, presented him with national awards, spoke at his televised funeral. Peterson wrote the foreword for Gulag Archipelago.

So yeah, liking his books isn't a red flag, although there are better self-help books than 12 Rules for Dating My Con-Artist Daughter, and you should just read Joseph Campbell instead of Maps of Meaning if you really want to commit to the hero worship aspect.

Being a devout worshiper of Peterson, saying things like "Well, you just don't understand him" or "you need to watch this lecture to really get him," that's a red flag because you don't have the self-awareness to realize that Peterson is reviled for pretty straightforward reasons in the liberal and left spheres. It's not misinterpretation, it's stuff like his jerk-off session with Camille Paglia or his explicitly racist jokes about native people. He's not a pleasant man to listen to or watch, and several of his associates are explicitly affiliated with the far-right.

I know that this isn't a battle that can be won in this sub, I know I'm not winning over MRAs with a polemic against their Rasputin, but I think men who have been influenced by Peterson should at the very least try and understand why he's so disliked by such a wide variety of people. It's not sensational reporting or groupthink, it's because the guy is a pretty notorious asshole. Not everybody likes assholes.
