Wouldn’t this result in people being less likely to swipe on people they like due to feeling intimidated or less likely to stand out among the persons other matches? I think that would make less people use dating apps overall rather than make dating apps healthier.

If a woman sees one guy has 0 matches and another guy has 25, she is obviously going to go for the guy that has 25 matches. Preselection. The other women obviously see something in him so he's doing something right etc.

In what way would it make it healthier? You think women would choose men with less matches? For what reason? Out of pity? Even in real life, women are interested in men, who get attention from other women. Showing your number of matches would only increase the perceived "toxicity", that people see in dating apps.

Women would still swipe on the profiles of hot men with many matches and then delude themselves into thinking the hot guy will pick her because she’s oh so special.
So nothing is changing here.

But they would definitely not pick a man who doesn’t get matches, even if they like his profile otherwise. Women just hate men that can’t get bitches.

absolutely not - its an easy route to “rank” people based on their numbers and it will easily fall into the same trap as social media.

Also - just about the “don’t wanna feel like the second option” thing, this statement only makes sense when y’all know each other and have established some kind of report - ie. been seeing each other for months and aren’t exclusive, been friends for a bit, etc - but when you literally don’t know each other? or even when you’re barley getting to know each other? that’s some toxic ass shit

Also I personally wouldn't care if someone had 2 or 1000, I'd swipe right anyway if I liked their profile/was attracted... but someone who is in the low numbers it could kneecap their potential for matches among the people who are concerned that they don't garner a lot of interest.

Simply create new profiles if too many matches are turning people off, or create multiple profiles of the opposite sex to give yourself the requisite number of matches.

I think apps shall give pairs of pic to compare and pick the most attractive, to create a ranking. Then using this comparison, people are assigned a percentile and only presented with people in their percentile.

1st percentile women with 1st percentile men, 40th percentile women with 40th percentile men, etc.

Just limit the number of matches people can get to around 15ish and, this is key: add a third option to shuffle potentials that don't make the cut back into the stack.

Dating apps are better off financially if they don't show that and people get more likes and matches. I personally took tinder when my friend who was at my same league look wise told he was getting around 7 matches a week. I was happy if vould get 1 per week as long as the 1 was someone who sahres my similar views. But little did I know he was using premium services. So basically they need you getting more and more likes to push you for paid services as well as to make more people join them!

If you can't handle "feeling like an option" for a person you've literally never met or even talked to... that is a problem for your therapist.

But yeah I doubt it would do anything at all. A lot of matches can mean "extremely desirable" or just "been on this app for a really long time." Very few can mean "no one wants me" or just "I am new here."

I don't need an app to tell me how attractive people are. I have eyes. If someone is a snob, has a sports car, a blonde middle hair side part and wears white jeans and is posing with champagne and giving pretty rich boy vibes I know he's getting a ton of matches. However im repelled by conventionally attractive men like that, so it wouldn't matter if I could see someone's match count. Just by looking at a dude, I can tell if he is popular with women or not. It's irrelevant to me who's looking for a niche guy.

Maybe relevant to dudes. Idk.. like if guys could see my count.. they'd see that it's ridiculously low, but not because I'm not attractive. I am attractive enough to get matches majority of the time, but the reason my march count is low.. I'm ridiculously picky because why bother with people I'm not attracted to

Tbh matches don't say much, at least on Tinder, in my experience. I recently joined Tinder, have over 10k likes and matched with quite a few guys. Most of the time a match doesn't even lead to the start of a conversation. In this regard Tinder seems to be different than other apps. I've used another dating app and if I matched with a man, they've always started a conversation. On Tinder you can have a match and nothing happens. I've learned that apparently men don't automatically start a conversation, so I took the initiative and wrote to them first. Sometimes there's no reply at all. Most of the time a conversation simply fizzles out. The number of times an actual meeting happens based on a match is quite low. So, imo, number of matches don't really say anything.
