Most guys hate plastic surgery and make up on women. Most guys would never get plastic surgery and do makeup to impress or compete with other guys. So why do women do it for other women?

i can’t speak much on plastic surgery, but as a woman who never wears makeup, most men don’t hate it, and not wearing it definitely shrinks a woman’s dating pool. most men hate what they view as overdone and unnatural makeup- but a lot of men would also view a woman who is always completely bare-faced as plain and unpolished.

it’s also worth pointing out that several jobs damn near require makeup to be considered dressed professionally. it is not uncommon for bare-faced ladies to be told outright to wear makeup in professional settings. again, a woman’s bare face is considered unpolished.

women can like makeup and do it for themselves or other women or for whatever reason they deem appropriate. but there are absolutely societal side effects (especially in dating and business) of not wearing makeup and most of them are negative.

Unless the surgery is overly or badly done, a lot of people can't tell...A LOT of people. Same thing with makeup. Most "natural" looks are also not natural at all...Yet again most men can't tell...

Most societies are genuinely harsh on women when it comes to beauty/appearance & youth. Look at Asian beauty standards for example...In the western the world even bodily hair is called "disgusting"...So women cut themselves with razors to have "smooth skin". Such that now 80% have been conditioned to do this automatically the moment they hit teen years...

There's also an obsession with youth. Especially to those with low self esteem. That does lead to body dysmorphia which is at an all time high especially with apps like Instagram. So even though in your eyes you might see nothing wrong, they don't feel the same when looking in the mirror...

Its unfortunate that she did pass, complications do happen. But unless things magically changed, it will not stop happening. Its been going on for hundreds of years & it will continue to...

Men in South Korea do wear makeup for your information, in case you didn't know. Its not for other men per say, like you're phrasing it with women. Its not that literal. Its for themselves. A lot of people do it for themselves not for external validation even though that does happen but l tend to think of it as a bonus. There's no harm in this as long as they're not hurting anyone...

I actually don't think guys do hate plastic surgery or make up on women. They say they do, but then whenever anyone posts a picture of someone they think is hot, generally they have plastic surgery and/or makeup. They might hate it when it's badly done but for the most part I think they don't really notice it, or in fact think it's natural and how women are meant to look.

In any case, I don't think it's "for women" as such, it might just be to restore their own self image and make themselves feel a bit more confident. I don't know what the person you know had done but she's got several kids - did she breastfeed? If so her boobs will be totally unlike they were when younger. Her stomach is probably completely different, she might have loose skin, she might have fat she can't shift. Now, this should be an accepted fact of aging and motherhood, but we're constantly confronted with images of other women who've had babies and "bounced back" and still have these rocking bodies (most likely because of surgery and/or someone else looking after the kids while their team of personal trainers and dieticians worked with them, and photoshop dealt with the rest).

This can result in a huge loss of confidence. Men are also constantly complaining about post pregnancy women "letting themselves go" and no longer having their 20 year old body. I'd wager this is also a factor in dead bedrooms, where the woman no longer feels attractive and doesn't want to display themselves to a guy who's wishing for a younger body. I've also seen guys on Reddit admit they lost attraction to their wife after childbirth because her body wasn't the same.

So for plastic surgery, I think there's a variety of factors at play.

For makeup, some people just feel more confident and comfortable in make up. Some people like to play with make up and create cool looks. It's a very different thing to cosmetic surgery. Day to day I rarely ever wear makeup, but if I'm going out it's quite a fun part of the routine of getting ready; playing with colours and perfecting eyeliner flicks, and it's basically like an accessory to my outfit, just like wearing a necklace or whatever.

Men do not hate makeup and plastic surgery. They hate the fact that women don’t look like that naturally. They want us all to wake up looking like an instagram selfie everyday. The women who get the most attention are always the ones who invest ridiculous amounts of time, effort and money into their looks. Women who dont do those things are considered unfeminine and tend to be overlooked.

They hate it when they can tell. The stuff that's noticeable generally looks bad. In reality the women who are considered the prettiest usually have some well-done surgery and most of the women men want to focus on wear well-done makeup. Men say they hate these things yet would like women to look the same, just "naturally".

Most guys do like the results of both surgery and makeup even if they theoretically don’t like the idea. Like 99% of celebs men find attractive are wearing makeup, and probably 80% have surgery. Men only notice really obvious and badly done surgery and makeup and just think they hate it. Women do these things mostly to be treated better by both men and women, because our society highly prizes looks for women. A woman who isn’t naturally beautiful and doesn’t wear makeup doesn’t get much interest from men. She may even be viewed as “unprofessional” in some workplaces. Surgery is less common, but it’s not hard to understand why a woman would want to change things she’s been picked on for her whole life or try to preserve her youthful looks. A lot of men don’t treat their wives very well as they start to lose their looks. With how men talk about women who don’t meet their looks standards or are getting older, it’s hard to believe how this could even be a genuine question quite frankly.

Additionally, there is always risk involved in any surgery, but dying or being severely disfigured from cosmetic surgery is quite rare. The chances of simply not liking the results are higher, but it’s a risk many people are willing to take.

Actually more men are starting to get cosmetic work done too. There’s that MLD dude who had lipo and Myron from FnF had a hair transplant. It’s definitely more prevalent in women but I wouldn’t be surprised if the number of men getting work done doesn’t continue to increase. It’s not just surgery… so many men in the U.S. are on Ozempic and testosterone therapy without clear cut indications.

Maybe because the technology is more accessible now and because of social media, there’s more pressure to look good. It’s more if a status symbol than just attracting partners.

It's not for men, but it's not for other women either. It's for themselves. A lot of women are crippingly insecure and self obsessed to the point they can't live normally or be perfectly content with not being beautiful. A lot of it is social conditioning, and, I know you guys don't like feminism, but at least it tries to address it via body positivity for women and destigmatizing looking ugly, having bad haircuts and not shaving. It doesn't seem to be effective tho

Some people do it for themselves or to look more attractive for their partners. Sure, societal judgment for daring to age and not look like a movie star plays a role but people have things about themselves they don't like and might want to change. Maybe she didn't like her saggy boobs after 3 kids, maybe she wanted to get rid of some stubborn fat in the stomach area she couldn't get rid of. Maybe she wanted to look younger and ''prettier'' for her husband. Any surgery carries risks but in most cases, you'll be fine. She was one of the unfortunate few who weren't. Blood clots are shitty and you could die from one even without getting surgery.

As for the whole ''men don't like makeup and plastic surgery'' - they say they do but all the people they find incredibly attractive are wearing makeup or maybe had some work done. They like it when it's done well and when it's barely noticeable. The ''natural look'' usually involves at least some color corrector, maybe light foundation, some mascara, and lip gloss/lipstick. No makeup whatsoever gets Margot Robie called mid. Average women with no makeup get asked if they're sick or something. A tastefully-sized boob job with teardrop implants looks natural. Strapping on some tits that are big enough for Lebron James looks silly, sure but that's what people notice because it looks absurd. Nobody notices all the well-done nose jobs, lip fillers, reasonable BBL's, and boob jobs because they are made to look natural.

My dad used to say plastic surgery is usually done by mentally ill people, and there is a high correlation. He said they should see a psychiatrist first or something. My dad was a doctor.

I do think looks for women is also about social hierarchy, not just to impress men.

I think because they make plastic surgery seem normalised and easy and it’s probably a lot more accessible than it ever was, people forget about the risks. I think with filters/photo editing and apps like Instagram, people’s perception of beauty has skewed. There are certain circles where if you don’t have the lip filler, super white teeth, perfect body, your seen as less than.

Plastic surgery is a gift from the heavens!! When it's done correctly it looks amazing. I'm very sorry for this woman, that's a rare case but sadly there are always such risks.

It's not easy seeing yourself age. Typically at around age 40 is when it really hits you and you start seeing the sagging jowls and the droopy eyelids. Some days you don't see the face you are familiar with in the mirror anymore and the reality hits you. Nowadays, a lot of women get facelifts starting in their 40s unlike the procedure being more associated with 60+ yr old women. It's harder to notice the difference when you do it in your 40s but it gives that refreshed look and reverses aging by 10-15 yrs. Healing is also faster & easier. So I had one done earlier this year and boy it was the best decision of my life! My goal was to look like my younger self so didn't wanna change or enhance any of my natural features. But simply had a lower face-lift that lifted the jowl area, and also had the droopy eye lids fixed. I have thick skin and had hooded eyelids which in time the droopiness would obstruct my view. So I elected to correct it while I was under instead of waiting for it to become an issue. I am almost 44 now and I'm back at looking like my 30yr old self. I don't think this is any different than fixing your crocket teeth and I wish men were more open to such surgeries.

One other very important thing to note is, society values women by their looks. It's the sad, harsh truth. I had always gotten a lot of attention, even before this surgery men were circling around me a lot. Now it's multiplied just like back in my 20s. In my previous work place I was literally treated like a queen. And let me emphasize, I'm actually not seeking this and I'm quite introverted but I'm typically friendly and nice to people. Working in a male dominant environment, my coworkers would literally spoil me with continuous compliments, lunches, and even little gifts here and there (I'd always return such favors thou). But there was this one other female engineer, she was very reserved and by conventional means she was actually very rough looking. Noone would ever even approach her. She was literally invisible. I'm very observant and always felt bad for her. I'd try to talk to her but I think she resented me for the attention I was getting. She was eventually let go because a male dominant environment can be rough when you cant get your voice heard. And as a woman in this environment, you often have to fight these battles to even be taken serious. If this woman could have been confident and spoke up, perhaps she could have been successful. She was a PhD, she wasn't stupid. But I think her insecurities failed her.

Long story short; this is what I recently told one of my besties that is 10yrs younger than me; we always have to look good as women because men overall can't see past that. So, to navigate thru life successfully, prioritizing our looks is a must. And please don't take this as sexualizing ourselves; it's absolutely not that and sadly looking good also attracts a lot of predators too. So that's a different kind of challenge we need to overcome as a result.

You only live once and at the end of the day, gotta make the best out of this precious time we have on this planet.

I’m sorry to hear that. It is pretty common for women to get cosmetic surgery even while in relationships and there’s tons of research that proves biologically, men have always been attracted to features signifying youth as it shows their more fertile.

Such as plump lips, clear looking skin, blush cheeks, darker eyelids and lips etc. women also find these attractive hence why they do it. And makeup is pretty much a way to enhance these; why we subconsciously think a red lip and blush cheeks signify beauty. It can also target women with insecurities pointed from ppl/society when we see overly done surgeries and makeup. I have lip filler and it makes me feel more confident, and I either have a bare face or minimal makeup when in public

Most cosmetic surgeries are barely noticeable, especially if you’re unaware of them
Makeup can accentuate existing features, and highlight her natural beauty
Makeup is an art to some. Playing with shadows, undertones, colors, highlights- all of that, it’s an art. And it’s absolutely valid to flaunt that talent, in my opinion
Women do it for themselves, to feel good about themselves, and not necessarily for anyone else (of course some do, but not as a rule of thumb)

As someone has already said- men only hate it if they can tell- or if they are told about it when they believed the woman "naturally" looked like that.

I do take, what I hope is perhaps your main point- that people shouldn't feel so much pressure to look a certain way. Makeup and body modifications should be enjoyable- not a requirement to feel ok in your own skin.

I don't wear makeup- (or rarely wear it) because I'm bad at it, I end up with raccoon face, irritated eyes, and it's just too much upkeep.

It makes sense to have fun with your appearance- whether tattoos, piercings, makeup, or any other body modifications one wants- but it shouldn't be a source of stress.
