Your whole premise fully relies on the idea that men want a subservient social role and would love it which has proven to be untrue over and over again.

Now, I don’t think the “man evil” theory is true as it simplifies things a ton and ignores social, economic and psychological evolution and fully simplifies things as a result of a lack of development in some fronts, but none of it was inherently “evil” - but that’s way beyond the point and irrelevant to your premise

It's a common misconception that men have intentionally kept women down out of pure malice to control and diminish women.

For most of history, married women had no right to their money, land and bodies. Their property and legal existence was transferred to their husbands upon marriage.

In the 1960s, women gained the right to open their own bank account. Many banks required women to have their husbands' signatures and wouldn't grant credit cards to unmarried women.

In 1974, women were finally allowed to open bank accounts, apply for credit and commit to a mortgage without needing a male co-signer.

Men have kept women down to control and diminish them. It's common knowledge.

why would men not want women to lead? bc they’re sexist and think women are stupid or gutless and would lead us to disaster. there are radicals with podcasts who harp on this unironically every day. the sentiment is not common in the west but it exists, and lord travel to more socially conservative or religious countries and you’ll hear way more of it. much of it isn’t a conscious “i hate women” thing, it’s usually rooted in implicit biases and explicit sexist biases justified by benevolent sexism

Pride, ego, the usual suspects. It's like men who would rather let their family struggle and barely scrape by than accept "government handouts." From a rational standpoint it makes zero sense but there are men who feel like their pride and independence are more important than literal survival, much less luxuries.

There are some theories about general dominance of men - I guess some clue might be slight difference in IQ distribution(men tend to overrepresented at max/min centiles) and probably some sociopath traits might be also more prevalent in men.

I guess there simply is a group of men that is very hard to compete with due to their genetic predispositions - and since they want something from women, they just create the culture where this subjugation is enforced. Men of course are also subjugated to elite, but elite is aware that men might be more dangerous, so even lower layers of men are given 'some' power.

We may even observe it in recent history - even though 'incels' are tiny group of parent's basement dwellers, they are subject of various discussions, pretty much because they take violent action from time to time and are able to spread some chaos even sitting behind their laptops. While unhappy women(ie. abused single moms) are not really cared much about.

Women just whine about their boss who didn't give them a promotion yet won't do anything about it. Women are just very passive about life.

Instead women would finally get some peace without men trying to initiate sex and the majority of women would choose to live without men. Women usually buckle out under high duress. My mom was a principal in school and used to lead. She faced some misogyny problems and had her own way of dealing with those men like marching upto them and pulling their attention to get a good morning. Despite being the top position in school she would sit down with the workers like kitchen staff for mid day meal plans and also dining beside them.

I have seen her buckle in some situations though but she handled it well. Many women aren't like that and start freaking out. Why do you think the term knight in shining armour came out?

Plus the reason men don't step down is due to society norms like why would a woman want them if they can't provide, the hypergamic nature of women, etc. The only way a man can be loved is to start a family and that means taking a lead. If a woman leads she will not love any man is a thing almost every man has reinforced by actions that women don't want to have sex with men (debatable), women don't put any efforts in dating so men believe women will never like them for who they are, etc. If those reasons aren't there, men wouldn't be afraid to step down.

Women have been getting more and more into leadership roles roles in the past few decades (and considering the data on college attendance it might be bound to accelerate), but this hasn’t resulted in them “hitting on man” more.

And if I have to guess it won’t in the future, if ever, women with a better status will become even pickier.
