I know a lot of dating advice in “red pill” spaces emphasizes that guys should lift, get jacked, and focus on building an ideal physique to increase their attractiveness. And don’t get me wrong, I understand the value of fitness and self-improvement.

But today at the beach (and honestly, even just walking around downtown), I noticed something that made me question how much a great physique actually matters in practice. I saw multiple examples of flabby, skinny-fat, or even chubby guys who were with slim, attractive women, many of whom had great proportions and looked like they took care of themselves.

The one thing a lot of these guys did have in common was height, most were on the taller side. But they weren’t particularly muscular or “in shape” by gym standards.

On the flip side, I rarely see fit or jacked guys dating women who are significantly out of shape. The visual contrast tends to go one way more than the other.

So it made me wonder: Is lifting and building a muscular physique somewhat overrated when it comes to attraction and dating outcomes? Especially if other traits (like height or personality) are more impactful?
