Not immoral but you are missing a very important consideration:

The divorce rate in that country is often not the same divorce rate between inter-cultural marriages. For example, the divorce rate in Japan between Japanese citizens and foreigners is much higher than the divorce rate between 2 Japanese citizens.

It is not as simple as looking at their internal divorce rates because there is a HUGE culture shock when you go to another country to find a life partner. There’s a higher chance you’ll disagree on family structure, how to raise kids, what kind of values you have, disagreements with in-laws, etc.

I don’t think it’s always immoral, but I think it can be. I also think the people who do things like this too often fail to account for cultural context and therefore end up failing or resentful.

Take India for example. India has a low divorce rate. The reason why it’s so low isn’t because the women there are more family oriented or loyal, it’s because of the heavy social stigma against divorce, the prevalence of arranged marriages, economic dependency, etc etc etc. If you went to India in search of a life partner, you probably are a little immoral considering the low divorce rate has more to do with social pressure and inequality than anything else.

Looking into the underlying reasons might shed light. If you're going to a country where, say, divorce is not legal and women aren't allowed to have their own incomes anyway, well, you'd probably have to stay there to benefit from the effects. (And in that case I would argue that you are participating in an immoral system.) An awful lot of the women married and brought to the US by US citizens eventually divorce them. (Around 25-40%, depending on sources.)

I don't think there is anything inherently unethical/immoral about it without assigning some intentions that you do not explicitly state.

I think there would have to be an underlying intention to cause harm to someone in someway directly or indirectly for it to begin to be unethical or immoral.

It’s often exploitation, those marriages don’t work out when you get home because freedom is a hell if a drug and the passport bro wants to have the rules of the wife’s country for his wife in his own country instead of treating her like someone from his own country, of course that’s not all passport bros but it’s a lot of them. I guess it depends on why the divorce rate is low. Are the people there healthy, happy, and secure, leading to lower divorce rates and strong families? Or are the women there treated as second class citizens and bullied into staying in bad marriages, leading to lower divorce rates and shitty families?

I'm not sure most things in life come down to numbers, but certainly complicated things like marriage contain multitudes of variables.

But on its face, of course it is not immoral to move to a country that better reflects your values.

It can be a funny dynamic because oftentimes the woman is dating the foreigner hoping he's more liberal than the men in her country and he's dating her hoping she's more conservative than the women in his.

Ironically it seems like the best case scenario is when liberal dudes date abroad knowing they will most likely attract liberal women in that country. A lot of my college professors were like this and actually do have happy marriages with women they met abroad. Many never had and never wanted children.

I think the morality would depend on things like whether you intend to for the sake of - let’s say - cultural or legal reasons the divorce rate is low rather than legitimately loving marriages because it could be seen as you looking for someone to ‘trap’ - but even then I feel the whole concept of “I’ll marry someone from here cause the divorce rates are low” in itself falls into iffy territory because you’ve basically shown us that you view the women you’d want to marry as interchangeable and as a result of existing variables rather than whether ya’ll bond or not

No? I think more people don’t do it because their families, friends, and jobs are in their home country, they may not speak the language, and because location is only one factor in marital longevity. Changing other factors, like income, education, religion, heath etc require fewer sacrifices for many people, and they may have a bigger impact.

Lower divorce rate doesn't necessarily mean better marriages, though. People in some countries are less likely to get divorced due to religious or cultural stigma, but that doesn't mean they're happy in their marriages. Many barely have sex or even talk to each other, they just won't get a divorce.

In addition to the general 'depends' comments here which I agree with, note that this may be excessive if you live in a multicultural liberal democracy like the US, UK or Australia.

I'm in the latter and there are plenty of women from more traditional cultures you could meet, and if anything I think your chance of a long marriage is higher if they are making the choice to be with you freely, with perhaps less visa or economic attractions, and knowing they can also choose to shag around, marry someone else, stay single etc.

No. What's the positive in staying in a place with a high divorce rate? All that shows is that the citizens there don't take marriage as a serious lifelong commitment. You're more likely to find a partner for "life" in a place with people actually only choose divorce as a last resort.

That's not going to work, you're not from that country and still have a higher tendency to divorce due to the country you're from. You're also producing extra potential issues as international and cross-cultural relationships take more work, and picking a relationship based on statistics suggests you're not ready for a serious connection.

Depends on why it’s lower I suppose. Like is it because women don’t have the legal right to divorce? That is kind of taking advantage of an immoral system… Is it because of their religion? Then it is kind of immoral if you were to fake believing in a religion just to marry someone… But if you actually believe that and want to move somewhere that more people in your religion live that doesn’t seem bad.

But keep in mind the divorce rate is probably about people who grew up in that country, it wouldn’t necessarily lower your personal risk of divorce.

If divorce statistics are what you are deciding life choices on, there are also other things you can do to get into a different stat. For example, both people being college educated have longest marriages. Marrying older lowers the divorce chance a lot.

Even a large age gap relationship between two adults is likely to only get a few weird glances. Most people are not as adamant about forcing social norms that do not break the law face-to-face as they are on the internet.

No why? Unless you forced/tricked/coerced (in which case, obviously, dishonor on your whole family, dishonor on you, dishonor on your cow) someone into marrying you, you're good. Marriage happens between consenting adults, so if the person you meet there marries you, they clearly wanted it.

You can even have a preference for people of a specific nationality or culture or a preference for people who aren't from yours in general. You don't even need to justify it.

I think the only problem with "passport bros" is that they yap about it, often in really annoying ways. If you want a Thai wife and a Thai lady wants you as her husband, congratulations, nobody cares.

That said, while not immoral, I think going to a country in hope to find a partner only because the country has a lower divorce rate is quite silly. The vast majority of marriages happen between people from that country, and I don't think a lot of places run statistics on mixed marriage divorce rates. And significant cultural differences can really damage a relationship.

Also, unrelated to divorce rates, the grass is always greener on the other side. A lot of English guys think English women are entitled and annoying and Polish women are fantastic. A lot of Polish men think Ukrainian women are fantastic and Polish women are entitled and annoying. And a lot of Ukrainian guys think Ukrainian women are entitled and annoying and dream of an English wife.
