So everyone here is already discussing it, and I'm an unhinged weirdo that's tried to logically think out all his morals, so I'll start by talking about the age of consent. The age of consent, for a lot of human history, was decided by when we wanted to start having sex with someone, or when we saw it fit, so it was fairly low, around 10 or 12 in America until 1920, where we raised it to 16-18. Now, we're having conversations here about the differences physically and mentally between a 17 year old and an 18 year old and the shame associated. Well, the purpose behind that isn't related to anything about biology or what's *really* pedophilia and what isn't. The point is that if we want people to not have sex with kids, we have to decide that there is a line, regardless of how arbitrary, and it cannot be crossed. Most of our laws are arbitrary social constructs, after all. So we decided 18, and why 18? Because that's when you graduate high school, and you can start functioning as an adult, or something close to it. The purpose of the age of consent is to make sure that a child can grow up in peace to the point where they have the amount of agency in life so that they can make sharp decisions like that, deciding if they do want to marry and have sex, while having the ability to break off any engagements. It's the age of *consent*, and in a society where multiple movements are dedicated to forcing people to respect that consent, that age is becoming even more important. Women who've been harassed and taken advantage of at a young age have no desire to watch older men do the same to the girls of the next generation, and so they're fervent in shaming male attraction to adolescent girls. It's a subset of progressive movements that shame the normalization of harmful ideas in media. If we can push these ideas out the overton window, hopefully we can exterminate them. That's the idea anyway, I'm not entirely sure I agree with that being totally possible. I don't really agree with us redefining pedophilia to mean attraction anyone younger than 18. It has an actual definition, we just use it that way because it's way meaner and more shameful than ephebophilia and we want to shame men that have sex with underage girls, because the above stated reasons. Petty but I digress.

To get to your point, even if the media sells you that idea, you don't have to buy into it. A lot of music sells people some pretty raw and unhealthy ideas, barring other mediums. You can have your thoughts, but you shouldn't justify publicly saying you wanna pipe a 17 year old because of a song on the radio. If you've ever interacted with children as a caretaker you would realize that children start experimenting with sexual things from a very young age, think 4-5. They don't know what they're doing really and yeah it's weird. I would say a teenager wanting to sexualize themselves is a normal part of teenage exploration, the responsibility of ignoring sexual advances from the underage lies with the adult. They don't fully understand the consequences of their actions; pregnancy, STIs, heartbreak, etc.

This is kind of a funny issue.

Having sexual thoughts about an 7-year-old child is clearly mental illness. But having sexual thoughts about a 17-year-old child maybe isn't. Because it was only a tiny blink of an eye ago from evolution's standpoint when humans only lived to be 30 and procreating at an age that today we consider children was pretty much how everyone did things because they had to. If you find a hot 17-year-old sexy, even if you're an old guy, that's only been "eww gross" for a few evolutionary milliseconds. It tells guys what realistic expectations to have of women and what expectations of women they need to conform to if they want to get laid. Along those same lines, throughout our lives we conform to lots of expectations.
