Well of course she is, but just from a purely medical standpoint its a good idea, if the father's family has a history of say, paper skin or something(theres a gene for that) thats a great thing to know.

The comments in the article are despicable. Many people are excusing the mother's behavior and trying to sell the bullshit, "real men father children" ideology. While true, this is a very great and burdensome expectation from a man who has been emotionally and financially deceived. The wife is a terrible person for deceiving her son and husband, no question.

I feel awful for the son here. The message that this action by the father sends is that the father's pain and anger are more important than the relationship he had with his son. I fully support the dad's right to go after the mom and divorce her or whatever. And maybe it's just shitty reporting that left stuff out, but I hope to god that he made his son aware that this isn't the son's fault and doesn't make him suddenly unloved.

As an adoptee who has only know my adoptive parents my whole life, the biological connection to a parent isn't as important as the person who put in the work and love to raise the kid. It's not suddenly about who the "real" dad is. The kid's dad is the upset man who raised him his whole life. That relationship is the value there, not simply a DNA test.

I hope this guy doesn't throw away his son due to the pain of his wife's betrayal.

I also think that the woman should be compelled to ID the biological father or potential fathers. I'm sure the guy wants the info so he can sue for money, but I hope that the son finds out so that he has accurate medical information going forward.

If he sued because he's been denied the chance to have his own son for 8 years that may work because that's a loss that can't be quantified or paid back.

UK courts are not like US courts, you can't usually get damages or losses back for things like this. The judge will decide he had the benefit of loving a son for eight years, even if it was his genetics that made them.

Obviously the villain here is the wife, but if I had raised a son from birth for 8 years and then I discovered I'm not the biological father, that boy is still my son and I'm still his father. There's much more to parenthood than biology. I don't know the circumstances of that family, but under normal circumstances the emotional bond is more important than the biological relationship.

This girl I went to school with cheated on her fiancé with an old Highschool ex and got pregnant with his kid. Her fiancé still is not aware of this as far as I know.

I would like to see alternative approaches to this. If the person wins, and I think that is highly unlikely, the child will grow up in a worse state and that is concerning.

Here is how I think these situations should be resolved:

Sue the mother for minor amount of emotional damages.
Sue the real father for the amount of money that would have been his responsibility in the first place.

The guy who has been emotionally damaged will get his money returned, the real father will be forced to step up in the child's life, and it might make men take more responsibility in not sleeping with a married woman if they knew something like this would happen. In addition, the penalty to the mother will make a clear statement that it is not acceptable.

Didn't see it in the article, but I think some more information on this is needed... Did the wife know the child was a result of the affair, or did she think it was actually his child up until this point?

If she knew the whole time and kept it from her then I agree there should be some kind of repayment to the man because he was lied to and told that it was his son so he would pay for the expenses of raising said child.

However, if the wife truly thought it was his son, then I think it's a different story. Sure she cheated on him but she wasn't trying to scam him into raising someone else's child, because she thought it was his son and they were raising him as such.

Either way, I don't think it just comes down to the money, and I don't think he "deserves every penny spent", because what is that showing the kid, that since he isn't truly his son that the past 8 years of care can just be thrown out the window? No matter what it's going to have an impact on the son, but they should at least try and go about this in a way to reduce said impact because he's just a child

Why is this not common sense for the judiciary?

If a man was fooled into believing offspring was his and he was paying for it, how is that not fraud on the mother's part?

It seems that fraud doesn't apply in the family courts, regardless of country.

Get snipped and go MGTOW. That is the ONLY way to ensure you don't lose huge amounts of income from a deceptive female and a judiciary that has no semblance of justice.

While I agree she should have to repay him, I don't think he has any legal standing (I am not a lawyer). If your wife lies to you and you fall for it, sucks to be you.

If he had been divorced and this was 8 years of court-ordered child support, I would say he needs his money back. I just think the court will say spending that money was his choice, whether he was deceived or not isn't relevant. He could have had a paternity test done when the child was born.

I do think she should have to name the father.

Edit: AgincourtSalute made a good point to me. I'm not backing down that any father who turns his heart on his child based on some archaic belief that DNA dictates his ability to be father is a piece of shit, and I don't think he should sue her if the money was for his son. But maybe I was too harsh, for the reasons that have been pointed out to me.

But the fact remains, if the original father did not want the child, and the new guy took him on totally (legally, emotionally, relationally), then that man is the father, he doesn't get to opt out even if he leaves the woman, it does not matter that he was lied to, it's too late.
