My ex twice called me (also my family, there was a cuss saying that basically disrespected a person’s father) an ugly name in his native language. I pressured his friends to translate it for me right then and there. It was vile.

He called me derogatory names, too. Once, to “call me out”. Another, it seemed like it slipped casually, but was said in front of his friend when him and I were on a call.

I’d call him out and bite back, but did that change anything? No. If that ever happens again, I’ll be out.

Unfortunately, this is common younger millennial and Gen Z speak. I had a male friend and he’d started calling me ‘ho’ casually. My retired pick-me self thought it was so cool, and I started calling him that too. Eventually he also starting using ‘slut’ and ‘whore’.

Needless to say, he’s not my friend anymore, and I will never let anyone gaslight me into thinking it’s cool to call me derogatory terms.
