At the risk of sounding like a NLTOG, I have never worn makeup on a regular basis as the feeling of product on my skin really, really irks me. The only products I use on my face is moisturizer and sun screen.

Even so, I've felt societal pressure to wear it on certain occasions (important interviews, weddings, prom). Although they are few and far between, I have caved several times because I don't want the fact that I didn't wear makeup to be the cause of losing an important job opportunity. It's fucked up that this is the way things are, and I feel dirty for having conformed. Anyone who says this kind of expectation doesn't exist is lying to themselves.

What everyone needs to realize is the cost of this. Women and men don't exist equally if women have to spend money on beauty products that men don't have to buy, not to mention the time spent on it every day. It's not a "choice", it's not that women just "like" to spend an extra hour every day to do their hair, it all comes down from the fact that society values women on their looks. To look the part, many women would have to spend lots of money on products, and then for some you'd have to blow out your hair and curl them with a curling iron just to go to work. It places us at a disadvantage compared to men who have that extra money and time available for whatever they want.

Yes!!! If we’re still judging tf out of and harassing women who do not participate, it’s not really optional. I totally respect that makeup makes a lot of women feel more confident, but there’s probably more to it than you can actually recognize without sitting with it and examining your thoughts.

I didn’t wear makeup on my wedding day and I was getting people just before it started like “Let me throw something on you real quick! You don’t want to regret this!” NOOOO. My late husband thought I was the most beautiful person anyway, and I felt happy with myself. Our pictures are perfect and we look really happy, but I know it made other people frustrated with me. I don’t regret it. My natural face is really pretty and at this point I do feel good about not needing it, but it’s a surprisingly rough and unpopular route even with the women in my life. I guess it is easier to conform, but I just can’t stand it.

Men not wearing makeup is normal, but if you see men wear subtle natural make up, it does make them look more attractive. Yet men can go without makeup and be taken completely seriously. A woman risks missing out on job opportunities and promotions. Men and women are both attractive with or without makeup. In an ideal world, it should be personal choice and our character what determines our career choices and likelihood of growth in our careers. Unfortunately this is not always the case.

Agree 100 percent. All women feel this pressure even if they don't have a lot of money. Women who are poor spend quit a bit of money on makeup and general grooming for job.

In tip based payment Jobs like server here in the USA if you don't wear make up you don't make as much money. You also won't get HIRED at many jobs if you interview with no makeup on.

I stopped wearing make up, even to job interviews. It irritates my eyes, and I generally feel very uncomfortable wearing make up, especially during a day. When I feel uncomfortable, I'm very anxious. If I'm anxious, my performance is very poor. I sometimes envy men, because they just put clothes on and go. I'm fine with make up if it it's for party, concert or any evening/night event. I hate that we have to wear make up.

I don't wear makeup, but I think it can be rebellious based on how it's worn. Like really striking makeup, that kind that makes men say 'i PrEfeR NatUrAl MaKEuP' and probably not what a woman working at a front desk would wear. I think that kind of makeup is really about self expression, not like just covering spots and blemishes.

I used to detail cars in New Mexico. Which means cleaning dirty cars in over 100 degree weather and some girls would still wear a full face to work.

While I do agree with this, women also get shamed for wearing makeup. I don't think it's the makeup, it's more that men will criticize women for pretty much anything.

So, like, do whatever you like with you face, as long as you're doing it for you.

For me, personally, not wearing makeup was a "not like the other girls" thing. I have since embraced makeup, and while I still only wear it for special events, I am happy that I have gotten better at it and I really enjoy the self expression and feeling pretty!

This past year with covid stopping outside life, I started to realize what I do for me vs for others. I definitely only use lotion and eating well and exercise and lip gloss for myself. The rest, not so much.

I wear makeup 95% days. Usually minimal feature-enhancing looks. Sometimes bright colors because they’re fun.

Yes, at home. Yes, during the pandemic. Yes, when I’m not going to see anyone else.

I like makeup. I realize that the reasons I ended up trying and liking makeup might not be benign. At this juncture in life, I don’t care. I enjoy it and I’m going to keep wearing when I’m alone and in public.

I wear it because they can't. Trust me, they wish they had freedom to dress themselves up as much as we do without criticisms. Though my choices doesn't excuse the societal pressure of wearing makeup.

I wear makeup because a flipping want to. I like it the same reason I like to draw and paint. It’s a form of expression. I work from home and most days only see my daughter but I still will put makeup on daily because I LIKE IT. Frankly I’m kind of shocked at all the negativity toward it and those who wear it by this sub. Do better, y’all.
