I actually do like camping. But I won't go camping with men I haven't known for years and years and years. I actually prefer camping BY MYSELF. Just complete solitude with my doggos and Mother Nature. I don't trust men enough to go into the woods with them. I go into the woods to get AWAY from men.

I like some adventurous things (I sailed across the North Sea at 16, as an example), but I would need to seriously trust someone before doing that sort of thing with them.

I've noticed how a disproportionate number of men on OLD are into being adventurous, outdoorsy stuff, and extreme sports. I guess some men think having these traits make them "masculine" and hence more sexually appealing to women. And yes, some of them may be perverts trying to lure women to isolated areas.

Ooooh I can translate this one!!!! When I was dating I fell for this, but for those who don’t know yet: What they mean by “adventurous spirit” is “A girl who will do anal” 😂.

it’s a little similar to the guys who say “fitness” is important to them (and yet when you meet them they look like dough and have to catch their breath mid sentence just from speaking). In the same way they use “fitness” to weed out fat women, they use “adventurous” to weed out the women who don’t want shitty sex (by shitty I mean man-centered and porn reenactment).

I have an adventurous spirit. I take spontaneous trips, I learn foreign languages because its exciting to striking up conversations with strangers in their native languages, I hike and mountain climb, I camp and even do some bushcraft. I love learning new things, new cultures and I love adventures. None of them cared. That is NOT the kind of adventurous these guys want lol. None of them wanted to go on an adventure. They were ALL, however, very interested in my body and steered the conversation toward sex, sex positivity, etc. Every time.

What a dick. It's not an audition. I remember this guy that I was totally not interested in (back in high school), asked me if we could "talk." He was overweight and I was not attracted to him in the least. I also suspected he was gay. When I briefly agreed to a chat I had no idea what he might say. He felt the need to tell me that he was not interested in me. Um okay, that's great because I literally never gave it a passing thought.

When they reject you and you haven't even agreed to date them in the first place: "it's not me it's you honey."

A lot of men who claim to be outdoorsy, adventurous, big campers, avid hikers, etc... are just straight up dilutional about their hobbies.

A HVW friend of mine is extremely outdoorsy. Like, hike 10 miles a day and camp in the woods at night kind of outdoorsy. She's always disappointed when she asks for men to clarify their hobbies because it's like "oh, I go camping for two nights every summer" or "my friends and I do a 5 mile hike every month!" My friend is looking for someone who can actually keep up with her.

On the other hand, I avoid the self-proclaimed outdoorsy type because I assume they'll be hardcore like my friend instead of the "well, I like to hike... I just don't go often" type.

I love hiking, but I hate camping. I get so many patronizing comments from outdoorsy friends and the worst: my family in law. They have always been out camping with a caravan. And always act like their holidays are way superior to ours (usually we are renting an airbnb, so we can return there after spending the day outdoors). I just need my own, clean bathroom and quiet space when I want to rest. My husband is totally fine with it and enjoys our holiday. But my family in law acts like I ruined his whole life because I don't like camping. It's so annoying because they bring the subject up all the time.

To me, this sounds like a control thing rather than an "adventurous spirit seeker." Seems like he is looking for someone with no boundaries or requirements for their time, so he can dominate them. I also think he was hoping you'd respond by "proving how adventurous you are" ie, putting yourself in danger without vetting. Please don't feel silly for giving men a chance. It costs very little to match, chat, block and move on. If his comments were hurtful to you, it might be time to take a break from dating.

I went camping one time in my life and it was with my LVM brother and his friend. If you ever want to waste your time and feel like you're babysitting grown ass men, go camping with men. All they did was play like 10 year old boys- hitting each other, talking about disgusting sex acts they've had with women and talk about how every one of those women were the "one", they were unorganized AF and couldn't figure out how to book reservations or they drove aimlessly for hours not knowing where the hell they were going despite having cell service, our driver was drinking beer and said he was still ok to drive. When I was being productive and drying some towels on the campfire bricks cause it had rained, my brother decided to toss the towels into the campfire... they just burned and became useless.

Don't fall for those "adventurous" type guys, they're just guys avoiding responsibility at home of doing chores like cleaning, cooking, generally getting their shit together by pretending to be "outdoorsy". Half the time they don't even know wtf they are doing in the great outdoors and plan poorly.

It was like a really bad, several days long date with a low effort scrote. Other than that, Zion Nat'l park was very pretty and scenic. That trip got ruined for me by men. Next time I go, hopefully it'll be with people I actually enjoy my time with or by myself. And personally, I really like camping, outdoors scenes and hiking. I always have a great time going hiking around my local trail area with my dog.
