I went to go see it tonight. Some parts were funny. The editing was awful, there was zero chemistry, the only enjoyable characters were probably Thor and McKinnon. The plot was spotty and had almost no fluidity. The villians were forgetable. Thats the main critiques I have of it other than that every male is either evil or moronic. I'm sure evergone has heard how the team beats the big baddy...holy shit.

My date thought it was a great movie, and i honestly felt so bad for not enjoying it. I mean, this movie might have ruined my relationship.

Looks like the audiences are voting with their wallets. Surprise, surprise, alienating at least half of your audience (more like 70-80%) doesn't make for good box office numbers! Who knew?

However, I hold no grudge against the actresses in this movie; I feel badly for them because now they have their names tied to this crappy film. I hope it doesn't affect their careers, because a few of the bigger names are actually pretty funny.

If Paul Feig had cared about making a good movie instead of a political statement, I think this movie could've been great. It just came at the wrong time (too close to the buzz around GB3 with the original cast), the script is bad, the actresses were given bad direction and a variety of other things. I didn't mind the idea of a female Ghostbusters, I hated the idea of a bad Ghostbusters.

Seeing how this movie has a marketing budget of 140+ million dollars and nobody seems to know where that money went, I wouldn’t put it past Sony to have bought those tickets themselves in order to make the movie seem less like a bomb than it is.

I barely remember the original Ghostbusters, but I won't see this new one, and for only two reasons: one, I hate Saturday Night Live (the recent seasons) and three of the four women are current/former SNL performers, and two, I've seen Paul Feig on TV and I want to slap him Joan Collins-style.

I was actually looking forward to the movie. I liked Spy so having Paul Feig making this movie, along with Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig (Who wasn't in Spy, but I think she's funny) it had potential.

But the previews have ruined it. I feel like I've already seen the funniest parts of the film and it looks like it's repeating the major plot points of the original so it's just another unnecessary remake when it could have been so much more (it could have been a sequel to the original films, passing the torch on to the next generation and going somewhere new rather than retreading old ground).

So I'm not going to bother with it in the cinemas. I'll wait for it to pop up on Netflix or something and I'll probably watch it but it seems like a waste of time going out of my way to see it now.

Male here, saw it today and enjoyed it a lot. It was simply fun and I had no idea there was any sort of issue going into it. Wasn't great and wasn't terrible but fun. You won't hate it when you see it but it won't be the first ghost buster just like the second wasn't the first ghost busters. Some of the jokes are lame but if you get into movie land and let go it's just fun.

I'm not on the up and up on anything political that happened, but I'd like to say that I thought the movie itself was enjoyable.

Pretty standard hollywood movie plot, however I found it funny enough to come out of the theater happy (this isn't /r/movies so I won't go into a full review).

I'll say there were a few moments that felt less pro women, and more anti men. However, I'm not terribly sensitive and didn't feel like it was anything to be outraged over.

There are a few big movies coming out that are casting women as protagonists instead of men (which I think is just fine). My big hope for these movies is that they are done organically, like Force Awakens.

It's slated to bring in between $45-$50 million this weekend, putting it solidly ahead of expectations for domestic box office by $5-$10 mil. Nowadays, major Hollywood blockbusters make most of their money overseas (typically at least 2/3rds of it). If $45 million is the domestic opening weekend, it wouldn't be too surprising to see $80-$100 mil foreign. Combined, that would almost pay off the production budget in the opening weekend alone.

This doesn't even factor in the money they make off of merchandising (Ecto Cooler, Twinkies, Toys, ect), which will be a huge chunk of change.

Ghostbusters isn't doing as badly as you think it is. Just because SOME people are reporting empty theaters does not mean that all theaters in all markets are just as empty. It also doesn't mean that given several weeks in theaters and on VOD and when combined with profits from other revenue streams that they won't make more than enough money to warrant having made the film.

But they'll probably write it off as a loss anyways, claiming distribution cost just barely more than what they made, and then move on to the next film in the franchise.

Its not misandrist, its just uses the old clique in female-centric movies that men are stupid or only there to be abused for plot development. Its not exactly new or clever and not really offensive. What it is though is lazy. Women can be written really well in strong roles, like in James Cameron movies. If he had done this with 4 women it would have completely different, and much better.

The problem was the makers simple failed to realise that this is a male dominated movie franchise, you cant make a movie like this with that tired clique in it and expect to get away with it.

Melissa McCarthy wasn't funny, Kristin wiig wasn't funny. The black lady was an interesting character. Kate mckinnon held my attention.

It wasn't a great movie, and I can see how it would have upset fans of the franchise, but I don't see why the theater were empty.

I'm all for the movie business trying to make a profit and to make some sort of political point. But when it's a political point I find vile and disgusting I am going to wish failure on the project.

Having said that, I do feel bad though as I bet a significant number of the people who make their living from making movies probably have no opinion or even interest in the politics. Like the cameramen, mic operators, studio people, set builders etc etc. They are the ones who are going to get shit on. The stars and their disgusting ilk will be just fine.

The thing about this film, is that it's a smart move for the company, it has to have been made with the strict intention of capitalizing on the controversy, they are on social media fueling it all the while making a shit product that they know will succeed despite it's quality.

Why aren't "feminists" against this film... it's obvious that it's using them, it's not on their side, they should be ripping into them for trying to use their movement for monetary gain, but no, they wont do it, you know why? because these people aren't fighting anything, they aren't impassioned about anything, They should be fighting legitimate oppression, being the voice for the enslaved over seas, tortured, mutilated, forced into marriages as an underage girl to an older man, toppling the illegal sex trade, giving people outlets for funding so they don't have to sell their body to pay for their kids or food, getting women off the streets who are addicts, solving real fucking issues....

But when was the last time you saw a protest about these things? rarely if ever, all their effort is put into mansplaining and the alleged pay gap.. they are like all other new age movements, filled with people who just want something to blame for them not being successful, famous and it all coming easy.

Tl;dr feminists should be against this movie more than anyone, if nothing else, to me, this movie proves that feminism in this day and age, is just a platform to cry on, not to strive from.

In fairness, when I went to see the last X-Men movie, there were 17 people in the theater, including myself. So I cannot say this was entirely the fault of the hostile responses from the director and cast. The trailers were not that good, and I suspect most people simply were not interested in the film.

That said, this should be a lesson to filmmakers: if you constantly insult the very crowd you want to go see the film, you may end up with a theater of empty seats.

Fuck it, I'll get down voted to hell but here goes.

I'm a guy, I saw this film a few days ago in the UK and I thought it was great. Better than X-Men Apocalypse, better than the steaming pile of crap that was Independence Day 2. The film itself doesn't attack or demean men whatsoever in my opinion. It had a lot of laugh out loud moments and I loved the cast together in it.

However, Chris Hemsworth is probably the best thing about this film. Never knew he had such great comedy timing.

Second best film I've seen this year after Civil War.
